Great Cabin with immediate access to Acadia National Park
We really just loved this little cabin. It was perfect to serve as our base camp to Acadia National Park. There is a connector trail right from the cabin to some of the must see destinations within the park including Otter Cove, Otter Cliffs, Ocean's Path, Gorman's Mountain and Thunder Hole. There is a park entrance within 5 minutes drive from the cabin. We saw an amazing sunrise at the Egg Island Overlook, which was only a 10 min. drive at most from the cabin. If we wanted to go into Bar Harbor, we could be on Main Street in approximately 10 min. We hiked everyday and enjoyed being able to make our own lunches to pack into the park and then come back to the cabin at night to enjoy a grilled dinner and glass of wine. Everything we could have wanted was located right here at this cabin. The cabin is complete with anything you could want and it was nice not to have to bring towels and bedding. Garbage pick up is 2 times a week which was convenient. The Otter Creek Market at the end of the street had good breakfast sandwiches, muffins, coffee and pretty much whatever you might need in a pinch. The cell service was sparse all over the island, but we learned where we would have it at certain time to call home if needed. I found not having cell service really forced me to not stress the small stuff. Texting and internet communications were our means of communicating. Honestly, this was a real treat to relax at this cabin and leave the stress and worry for a week. Thank you Peggy.
Quaint, Quiet Cottage in Perfect Location!
Quaint, quiet cottage in perfect location. Short drive to everywhere on the island, but away from all the hustle and bustle of downtown Bar Harbor. Love the covered porch and deck when we weren't out and about. Short walk to Otter Creek Market for odds and ends and enjoyed the awesome fresh lobsta dishes. Owner, Peggy, was extremely friendly and helpful. If we ever have the pleasure to visit the island again, we will definitely stay here. Acadia National Park was one of our best vacations ever!
It was nice
The area was great. Being able to hit the trail and not have to drive was awesome. The couch could have been a little more comfortable. Wifi worked well. Loved the flooring. Overall it was a wonderful experience.
wonderful cottage well situated in a quiet neighborhood with easy access by car or foot to Acadia.
We spent 2 weeks at Summerwood and will definately be back. Situated with easy access to connector trails to Otter Cove and several hikes/walks in Acadia Natl Park as well as quick drive to the park. In a quiet area but convenient to the activities/restaurants in Bar Harbor as well as Seal Harbor, NE Harbor etc. Very centrally located and away from the crowds. We particularly loved spending mornings and late day on the covered porch and/or back deck. The cottage is as represented in photos. Great accomodations for a 2 week stay, equipped kitchen as well as grill on deck for when you want to enjoy meals at home. Peggy was a wonderful host and very accomodating and responsive to our questions/needs. Would highly recommend!
Just as we hoped!
Great location, comfortable accommodations, and an overall positive experience making it our home for a week. We enjoyed being off the beaten path after fun days exploring all around MDI, and then being able to cook seafood dinners from Parson’s and sit on the quiet porch with a cocktail in hand. Hope to stay again in the future. Thanks!
Lovely cottage, the location and the porch/deck make the place. You can hike out at the end of the street, and there is a market, too. You are on a quiet residential street, fyi. Note the main bed is high, and you have to go outside to the basement entrance to do laundry. The laundry and bathroom were immaculate. My only quibble is the pull out sofa. It has a piece of plywood in it to keep it from sagging when you sit on it. The pull out mattress is in terrible shape. I was really glad I brought at least 1 air mattress, but I wish I had 2 for my 2 teenagers. For this reason, I say the cottage sleeps 2, unless you bring air mattresses. Highly recommended still though!
