Spectacular sun-filled south-facing luxury canal-side triplex overlooking Notting Hill and far beyond which includes a wonderful, 20-foot-high, penthouse loft with floating bedroom platform. Owned and built by a Scandinavian designer, this ultra-stylish but quiet and very cozy and romantic apartment has been crafted with wit and love and has never previously been rented except for the occasional fashion shoot. Sleeping up to eight persons, the apartment has great transport links, free wifi and unlimited telephone calls to the USA, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Hong Kong, and the United Kingdom.
A private entrance and mural-decorated staircase leads up to the higher floors of a red brick Victorian house. On the lower floor there is one bedroom with its own south-facing balcony overlooking the canal and Meanwhile Gardens (a small nature reserve), a master bedroom with en suite bathroom and another bathroom. Both bathrooms have showers and jetted tubs.
Continuing up a further short flight of stairs, you emerge firstly into the fully-fitted kitchen with another balcony and a wonderfully positioned breakfast table from where you can lazily sip your coffee and enjoy the south-facing view over Notting Hill and the magnificent London skyline. Turn another corner and you are in the triplex's huge double-leveled penthouse loft with twin fireplaces. Seeing is believing. Part of it leads up to the roof terrace which is well lit and fitted with outdoor heater (for al fresco night-time winter reading ?).
A further part leads up to the gravity-defying floating bed and study in the attic space, from where you can laze and gaze forever, over your friends downstairs or the birds and boats on the canal, or just out over the amazing view. All nine windows are fitted with blinds, but seem to be rarely used. We wonder not why.
The house is located on a quiet Victorian street, some of whose houses, almost in secret back, onto the Grand Union canal. It is perfectly positioned for explorations all over the capital. A delightful short stroll along the canal takes you to the quaint café’s, antique and junk shops and market of the Golborne Road and Portobello Road that leads you in turn to Notting Hill.
A few minutes further in the opposite direction lay the broad avenues of Little Venice and Maida Vale with their own array of chic boutiques and restaurants. The nearest Underground Station is just three minutes away and a wide range of buses stop literally around the corner.
A five minute bus trip will get you to Kensington Gardens and Hyde Park, and a fifteen minute one to either the theatres of the West End or to Camden Market, arguably the only genuine competitor to Portobello road for multi-cultural people-watching and wild street fashion.
Paddington station, two stops by tube or a few minutes by taxi has the non-stop Heathrow Express which takes twenty minutes to get to any terminal. By arrangement ‘a mini-cab’ can be sent to meet you at any of London’s four airports.
Payment may be made by credit card via Paypal, checks drawn on US or UK banks or wire transfer.
Please note that smoking is only allowed on the balconies and roof terrace. Please also note that the apartment is not suitable for unsupervised children. Many of the railings have been removed for ascetic pleasure, rather than for safety, and the possibility of a dangerous fall will always exist for the ill-balanced or drunk !
I cant even begin to say how nervous I was about renting a house online. Peter was great to work with and left me feeling at ease. The house was perfect. In town but just far enough out to make it feel like you were more at home. I honestly have no objections about our vacation or staying at this home. I was very impressed. I highly recommend it to others and if I ever have the pleasure of returning to England, I will definetly see if the house is available.
I also recommend going to the "Prince of Wales" pub down the street. We went there 3 out of the 5 days and we had a blast. We made fast friends with the bartenders there and they were so nice. The even bought us a "farewell" drink. And Tops Pizza across the street from the pub was amazing too. We would finish the pizza while walking back to the house and then turn around and go and order another one.
This was a wonderful vacation. I hope everyone who gets to go gets to enjoy what we did.
We booked the property to stay as family and friends for our daughters wedding. This is a great space for a group of reasonably fit people. There are a lot of stairs and the mezzanine bed is accessed by a 'footbridge!'
You also have to go down two flights of stairs to the loo from the mezzanine double bed.
The sheets and towels were very clean and beds comfortable. Some of the blinds had lost their open and close stick and a couple of cups were chipped plus a crack in the teapot. However although most cupboards had quite a lot of articles stuffed inside there was constant hot water and heating once a lovely young plumber called Tommy sorted the boiler out.
It did take a couple of days to find the microwave as there were no instructions anywhere for anything. Unfortunately the wifi didn't seem to work but luckily we had 4G backup. The property is in a great place for watching The canal boats and only 5 minute walk from the tube.
Leading up to our vacation I emailed the owner multiple times for basic information, such as the address to the property, with no response other than "Please note that we do not use this messaging system and our replies will be sent to your email." Not until the day before the trip did the owner respond with the address and how to collect the keys. After the stay we expected the return of our refundable damage deposit and received nothing, or any communication to why it wasn't returned. I contacted VRBO, they back-peddled saying in there terms and conditions we are just a listing agent and bla bla bla. I did speak with the owner twice, one time was oh sorry, I'll get to it this weekend or I'll have the office call you tomorrow. Months later still nothing. I'm out a large amount of money.
Five ladies fro Norway was lucky enough to be able to rent this house for 6 days in Nov. -10. The place is fantastic! Wonderful to light the fireplace and sit down for breakfast before we went out and explored London. We should just have stayed longer to have more time to enjoy and relax in the house. Thank`s so much to Rowan for great service and help! We will be back!!
My family and I stayed here 6 adults and 1 child (6), of course I was nervous about booking a flat online, but it turned out great. There are a lot of stairs so be aware of that, and also if you are traveling with young children in the hallway there is an opening to the stairs below that a child could fall through, that was my only safety concern. The flat is in walking distance to the markets and short walk to the tube and bus stop. The only time we used a taxi was to and from the airport. The property was fairly clean, we did rewash the cups and dishes, etc, nothing major. Please note that there is free calling only to land lines not cell phones so you may need a calling card. It was a little difficult getting a hold of the property manager via phone, it was better to email him, other than that we enjoyed our stay.
I, too, was very nervous about renting an apartment online but everything went really well. The apartment was clean, spacious and had everything we needed for our stay. My friends and I were very impressed - no complaints at all. The tube station was only a few minutes walk away and it was easy to find our way around. Would definately come back!
