|Minimum Stay||1 - 7 nights|
Come enjoy the Finger Lakes year round while staying at 'The 1843 House'. It is a single family, 4 bedroom, home located on the west side of Cayuga Lake, just minutes from Seneca Falls (13 miles) and Ithaca (25 miles). It is close to the wineries on both Cayuga and Seneca Lakes. Built in 1843, it has old world charm with all the modern conveniences. You can find many antiques and period furniture as you move from room to room.
The house is completely furnished with 2 bedrooms downstairs and 2 bedrooms upstairs. There are 2 full bathrooms, one on each floor, a first floor laundry room with washer and dryer, a newly remodeled, eat-in fully equipped kitchen with new appliances including a dishwasher, a large formal dining room and living room. The living room has a sleeper sofa which can be used if additional sleeping accommodations are needed. A door in one of the downstairs bedrooms opens to stone patio that is completely fenced in. There is plenty of parking, a red barn, a huge yard with several mature trees to shade you from the sun, 3 stone patios, picnic table and chairs, and front porch.
Across the road and 50 steps down, you will find 218 feet of lakefront with a shale beach, a new dock with a ladder, a row boat with oars for your use, and a large deck with picnic table and chairs overlooking the water. Enjoy a campfire on the beach or in the fire pit on the side of the house.
There is no telephone land line but cell phone reception is excellent. Smoking is prohibited inside the house. Conservative use of the septic system, water and electricity is appreciated. Although the house is not child-proof, children are welcome.
Occupancy is limited to 10 maximum on the property.
This house will breathe a big sign of relief after we leave. Kids of all ages had a great time. Only way it could have been better is if mother nature had cooperated a little more.
We were able to rent the house for my daughter's 21st birthday celebration. We wanted someplace low key and unique. The house was perfect for our group of ten! We were only there 1 night and all wished we had more time to enjoy the lake and property. So close to many wineries this was a perfect find!!
Our family had a lovely time at our stay at the Greek Revival House. It is as beautiful in person as it is in these pictures and it is very clean, comfortable, and well-appointed. We really enjoyed sitting at the outdoor table looking over the lake and having campfires in the fire pit with our daughter. The lakefront area is really nice as well, though there are A LOT of stairs to get there. We got our workout going up and down. : )
Really the only I can think of to tell future travelers is that there isn't any A/C but the listing is clear about that and we knew that going in. And it actually stayed pretty cool/comfortable most of the time despite the outside 90 degree temperatures.
Thanks to Michael and Ileana for a wonderful stay.
Loved the antique charm of this older country home. My friends came from Washington State to enjoy the Finger Lakes. We used this house as home base. We loved the patio and porches. My friends had never seen lightening bugs and were charmed by them. I am a native of the Finger Lakes and appreciated having ample space to allow my local family to visit. It is in a good location with wineries nearby and important historical sites to visit.. Harriet Tubman's home, Seneca Falls. Taughannock Falls and Watkins Glen are also nearby. If you like the charm of an older home, you will love this house. The stairs may be an issue for young children. There are two bedrooms and a bathroom on the ground floor if the stairs are an issue. The owners were very helpful.
Listing was exactly what we expected. For being such an old house, we thought it was in fantastic shape. Loved the charm of the old home. We would stay again if we were up for a wine weekend again.
Myself, finance and my two girls with their families stayed here for a week. There were 6 adults, 2 children and 1 infant. The house was so large that we were never tripping over each other. The upstairs was perfect for my daughter, son-in-law and their three children. They had their own space with a bathroom. They brought a gate to close off the top of the stairs and moved a dresser to close off the railing. Remember this is an old house so it is not built to today's codes. We had some trouble with the internet when we first arrived and the owner said she would be right over. I told her not to rush but she came within half hour anyway. Very accommodating. The house is decorated with pictures and knick knacks which makes it very homey. The kitchen is well stocked. The beach is steps down as described in the listing, but when you get there you have a private deck, two docks and crystal clear water. The road is pretty busy but the house is set so far back that I never worried about the 2 and 4 year olds. Of course an adult was out with them, but they had plenty of room to run. The wineries in the area are great. One within walking distance. Many state parks in the area. I would definitely recommend this property.
Even on the most humid days the shade of the trees and a dip into the lake pleased the whole family. The vineyard 2 driveways down was a real treat and on Fridays had live music. The owner Jim was helpful and friendly. The house was well appointed but could use a thorough cleaning. We love the Finger Lakes.
