Words cannot describe the beauty surrounding Oceanville Cabin!
Lobster direct from Captain Steve's Traps. Discounts offered for Cabin Guest. Hear about the area from a former Harbormaster while touring Deer Isle waters...
We stayed here back in 2005 or 2006 with our 3 children and I was just looking for it when I ran across it again today. The kids still talk about "our" cabin in the woods! The Johnsons were such gracious hosts, our youngest son remembers riding on the boat and seeing the seals, our two older kids still leave cairns when we go hiking anywhere in honor of that trip. The only complaint we have is that we are now ruined for lobster! Mr. Johnson floated us up next to a lobster boat and we bought their latest catch off them fresh from the ocean. We've never had better lobster before or since! Guess we'll need to come back up to get our fix. The I saw are grown now, but you can bet they'd be there in a heartbeat if we offered. For a family truly wanting to reconnect, their cabin is PERFECT! Can't recommend this place more...
I feel very fortunate that I stumbled upon this wonderful, peaceful & quiet little gem in the woods--as well as the whole of Deer Isle & Stonington in general. Having never been to New England & Maine before & nobody to refer me anywhere or to anyone, I felt vulnerable. But it worked out perfectly! While a little off the beaten path, it's still a reasonable staging area for a week in Maine, & only a couple hrs from Canada.
Steve & Roberta were wonderful hosts, making themselves available for anything we might need, & Steve took my wife & I on a beautiful tour of the harbour on his boat--I highly recommend that. It's also just a short walk to their long, private beach.
Stonington is a small, blue collar lobstering village with a few excellent restaurants, an old opera house, a couple of gift shops, a wonderful small library, & not too many tourists (if you want gift shops, tourists & bustle, go to Bar Harbour). The town & harbour are picturesque, & you'll love watching the lobster boats come in & out.
Deer Isle is also the home of many fine artists--painters & sculptors--& most have galleries attached to their homes in various nooks & crannies of the island. Even the bridge you cross from the mainland--ca.1920's--is a beautiful site.
I don't know if I'll ever make it back, but if I do, I'm going back to Stonington & I'm staying with Steve & Roberta at their Oceanville cabin!
Peace, Paul M.
My family and I just had a very pleasant stay at this cabin. The setting is very nice with views of the ocean through the woods. We found it to be comfortable and well supplied. Renters should be aware of there being an interesting mixture of plumbing solutions with a hand pump for doing dishes and fresh water in the kitchen, a composting toilet and hot showers. Our kids enjoyed sleeping in the loft. We would highly recommend this cabin.
I spent a week on Deer Isle, ME in this awesome Oceanvile Cabin. It is the perfect location for a photographer and I would highly recommend it to anyone wanting a quiet getaway. I was able to walk just outside the doors to take in a beautiful view of the Maine landscape, and I must say I got some gorgeous photographs! The cabin also provided a great centralized location to visiting Deer Isle and other areas of Maine. I spent some time driving around and was able to see some wild blueberry fields, beautiful waterfront views, and great landscapes. It also was not far from Acadia NP. The owners are absolutely wonderful people and you will enjoy their hospitality. You must visit the local harbor, watch the lobster boats, and try one of their famous lobster rolls.
