About Gregory Hose

My wife Susie and I have been visiting Hawaii since we met. I've always heard of Hawaii referred to as being "Romance and Magic Beside the Sea" or an "Urban Fantasy" - both have always seemed true to us. I've been visiting for all my life and although there have been many changes and improvements, the essence is still the same.

Gregory Hose purchased this condo in 2005

Why Gregory Hose chose Waikiki

Over the many years of traveling to Waikiki it was very easy to narrow the choices to one of the 3 waterfront condo buildings in the main section of Waikiki. The other building had mostly side views of the ocean, while the Ilikai Marina units on the waterfront have a 180 degree panoramic view of the water. We are right on the marina so you get to see all the coming and going of boats and outriggers from the marina and the Ali Wai which feeds into the marina. If you look to the right you see all the way up the coast to the Waiani Mountain range and out to Barbers Point. You also see all the comings and goings from the 4 harbors that lie just up the coast for the first few miles - you are directly above the yacht harbor, the sport fishing harbor is next just past the mile long stretch of Ala Moana Beach and 100 acre of fabulous park in front of the worlds largest open mall. Next is Honolulu Harbor with it's cruise ships that we always watch come in while we drink our coffee on the lani. Next is Pearl Harbor, which although the entrance is probably 7-8 miles up the coast appears much closer due to the size of the ships.

You also look directly off shore at four of the best surf breaks on the South Shore, it's very cool to be able to watch what's going on in the marina and also watch the surfers right in front. This is possible because the entry to the marina was cut through the reef, so the surfing takes place directly in front of you on the outside of the reef, as

well as being visible at the breaks on either side.

The 2 choicest beaches are right next to you on either side. Our Ilikai walkway drops you right on the lagoon at the start of the nicest part of Waikiki Beach. The lagoon has had a recent $13 million make over involving deep water wells that recirculate the water and an island with waterfall, all surrounded with beach making it ideal for swimming, kayaking, floaties. This is the start of Waikiki Beach, you can walk all the way to Diamondhead.

All that Waikiki and Oahu offers is right at your feet in this

incredibly convenient & beautiful unit. Waikiki has been spoken of as "romance and magic beside the sea," or as an" urban fantasy," Both terms have always rung true for me. Although I travel to all the islands, I always return to my favorite, Oahu and Waikiki in particular. There is an energy in Waikiki that I find nowhere else, and yet if I want seclusion or to go back to an earlier Hawaii, it's all there on Oahu. In 10 minutes I'm in an incredible jungle rainforest with a short walk to a waterfall and swimming hole at it's base. 10 minutes more and I'm at the top of the Pali looking down at most beautiful view of the other side of the island - currently my favorite view in the world. On clear days you see Kailua and all of Kane'ohe Bay, with it's many reefs and Disappearing Beach out in the middle. If it's raining, even better, watch the Pali (cliffs) as they turn into waterfalls thousands of feet tall. Last year we stopped counting when we got to more than 30 of these waterfalls on a short drive up the coast about 15 minutes. Continue up the coast and back in time to the Hawaii of decades ago. Don't miss the shrimp trucks for a bite as you approach the North Shore and the 7 mile miracle known as the best stretch of surfing on the planet from Sunset Beach to the Pipeline to Waimea, before you arrive at the cute town of Haleiwa. Stop and look around town or eat in one of the many restaurants before continuing on to the even more remote areas of Mokule'ia and the end of the road at Ka'ena Point (the point at which the Hawaiians believed your spirit departed this earth), or you can take the turn off just past Haleiwa and head back to Waikiki, less than an hour away.

  • A Rainforest marble slab was used to surround the deep soaking tub. A mix of bronze, copper, stone, jade, teak, koa, bamboo and porcelain all went into making the bathroom a unique experience. The very large rainfall showerhead along with a good sized multifunction showerhead with separate controls and a soon to be added matching handheld showerhead make bathing decadent, with room for you and a friend. The drain is hand carved jade with an antique bronze mirror - the kind before glass, when they used them to see their ancestors instead of to see themselves. The overflow cover is a samurai sword hand guard with 3 gilt octopi. There is also a removable teak shower seat. The wall with the bronze Chinese archer's bow towel rack with geese heads is mounted on a wall covered with handmade leaf embossed Thai kozi paper. The medicine cabinet is an antique jewelry box - carried by servants. Turned upside down so the handle is now the towel rack, the door & shelves are fused art glass.

  • 1 Bedroom, Sleeps 4
  • The bedroom has a king size bed with a Westin Resorts "Heavenly" mattress topped with a feather bed and high thread count linens. We have both White down pillows and for those that don't prefer down we have down alternatives and a memory foam bed topper if you would prefer it to the feather bed topper, or if you're like us, we us both toppers. The antique steamer trunk is newly converted into a chest of drawers with a stereo phonograph, am/fm radio, CD player.tape player that also allows you to plug in your own devices. Above the stereo is a new flat screen TV built into the trunk lid with extra storage above on the Art Deco luggage rack. A writing desk with a 200+ year old lacquered panel is also a computer desk and charging station. The window seat has not only a fabulous view, it also has storage for your 4 lounge chairs with attached footrests, snorkel gear for everyone, blow up floating lounges with electronic inflators that work with 110, 12 volt and batteries.

Beautiful condo. Lots of amenities that help make a home away from home. Fantastic view of sunsets.

  • 5 of 5

Perfect location with view of Waikiki beach. Within walking distance of many stores and restaurants. Beautiful view of the ocean and the most amazing sunsets that I've ever seen. Very cozy condo. Loved the king size bed, rain shower head in the bathroom, comfy couch, lots of information books to look through & find places to visit. That's how we found this really neat Japanese temple. So many kitchen items to help make meals, prepare coffee; anything you might need. This place was so nice to come back to after a day of adventure on Oahu. We used the cooler, mats and umbrella to bring to the beach.

Loved the free wifi. This condo was everything as seen in the photos. Highly recommended.

Perfect condo and location for our needs...

  • 5 of 5

We could not have been more pleased. This condo had all the accommodations we needed, from the kitchen to internet, TV and a king size bed that was extremely comfortable. We also loved the location... close enough to walk to Waikiki, yet far enough away to avoid all the hubbub. My wife and I highly recommend it.

The layout, location, and views were excellent.

  • 3 of 5

Wifi did not work and the agent didn't assist as promised. It's probably a simple fix like replacing the router.

The big disappointment was access to the pool located at the adjoining property was not allowed as advertised and promised. This change was not resent and the property owner should correct their advertisements.

For the amount paid for this property you would think toilet paper would not need to be provided by the renter.

Great Loacation and Views

Very well equipped. Wonderful unique finishes, furnishings and decorations. More like a personal home with character. Like your best friends allowed you to stay at their home. I would definitely recommend.

AMAZING time! Beautiful views and great atmosphere. We will be back!

Darryl and I loved staying at the condo. Not only was it close to the beach and great restaurants, but the condo itself was decorated nicely and had lots of extra things like games, towels, and a sewing kit...just about everything we needed. I was disappointed that there was only one beach chair and that the kayaks couldn't be blown up because the pumps didn't work. We were really looking forward to going kayaking. The boogie boards were broken but could be used. And I would suggest including a shovel so that when you get to the beach you can dig a hole for the beach umbrella. We could not dig a hole in the sand with our fingers, so the umbrella couldn't be stuck in the sand. Be prepared to buy toilet paper and paper towels, too, Having never rented a condo before, I wasn't aware of having to do that. Overall, we had an awesome time. The place is beautiful, the views are spectacular, and it was a great spot. Staying in a condo makes you feel like you live there; which was a dream come true for us. Hopefully, we will be back!
