About Jim and Reiko Ray
We are originally from Cincinnati, Oh. We moved to south Florida in 2002 and shortly after moving we realized that we really missed the seasons. We had vacationed in the area for Spring Break many times. We had hoped that one day we could have our own piece of this mountain paradise.
Jim and Reiko Ray purchased this Cabin in 2007
Why Jim and Reiko Ray chose Murphy
This is our home away from home. We have all the amenities and comfort of home. All you need is to bring your clothes and get ready to relax!
What makes this Cabin unique
Birds Eye View has a beautiful non obstructed view that is in walking visit to the rivers edge. Also we are 3 miles from John Campbell Folk School and 5 miles from downtown Murphy. All the benefits of being close to civilization but the serenity of the mountains.

Outstanding home with fantastic views from wraparound porches
Beautiful home with 3 levels which was great for our two families. Two separate living areas. There is a Mountain View from every window. On the wraparound decks, you can relax and hear the rushing river rapids. Furnishings very nice adding to the mountain feeling; the fireplace gave it a cozy feeling. Kitchen well equipped enough to make a Thanksgiving dinner. Lots to do in the area. We went to the Smokies as a day trip. Merciers orchard only 24 miles away with apples and yummy pastries. Lots to do in Murphy too. Vineyards and breweries nearby. There is a pavilion in the neighborhood where the kids could fish. The owners were very responsive beyond expectations!
Thanks for sharing your home with us!
Thank you for the kind words. It is always nice to get out to enjoy nature at its best. Have a blessed holiday season!
Perfect Christmas Vacation!!
This cabin was exquisite! The owners were great to communicate with like helping us the very 1st night when we had gotten stuck in traffic and arrived in the dark, much later than expected! Owners called to check on us after we arrived to make sure we found everything we needed as well! We spent Christmas here as a family and it was our favorite vacation thus far! We visited the beautiful city of Helen which was less than an hour away then spent a day in Bryson City, which our family loved and that again was just around an hour. The scenic view was breathtaking and we loved the uniqueness of Murphy too! Chevells restaurant downtown is delicious, a burger spot we found after the nature river walk we explored one day! We can’t wait to plan our next winter vacation in the mountains. My favorite part of the cabin is the amazing sunrise view in the mornings! You don’t want to miss it!
Wow, thank you for a raving review! We appreciate our guests and hope they feel at home while they are away from home. Please think of us if you come back to Murphy!
Reiko and Jim.
A Great Place to Relax
The cabin was exactly as described. It was clean and well-stocked with linens, towels, and everything you needed in the kitchen except food and condiments. The view was excellent and the atmosphere was peaceful and relaxing. There are other cabins close by so you don't get a sense of being remote from everything, but it is still secluded enough to make you feel that you are away from it all. The roads leading to the cabin are paved. If you have ever had to drive up and down a steep, narrow, and winding mountain road, then you know how much a plus paved roads are. It is close to downtown Murphy and all the little shops and the winery that you find there. Our main reason for staying there when we did was to see the solar eclipse. That was the only time we became aware of the neighbors as you could hear the exclamations coming from nearby cabins. This was truly a great place to relax.
Unfortunately I have to give it four stars for two reasons that are beyond the owners' control. 1) T-Mobile signal is virtually non-existent. Only the newest phones can get the signal. In our group of four, only one phone was usable.
2) The internet service was not very fast and not very reliable. It had a tendency to drop intermittently necessitating a reboot of the modem several times.
Details, details: Booking was easy. The owners were very communicative, responsive, and helpful. Emails were answered quickly. Security deposit was credited quickly.
Thank you for your kind words. We strive to have a comfortable place for people to relax.
This place is the whole package
Beautiful, clean, well-maintained. We had nothing to do except enjoy our stay. Spectacular sunrises over a 20 mile vista. One stop grocery with everything (including freshly prepared food), 10 minutes to Murphy, less to Folk School. Thirty minutes to Nantahala Gorge, ninety to Asheville. A great place to "live" in one of the nicest little corners of America.
This is our second time staying in the Cabin..We go there to get away from it all to Relax and Regenerate. it is so nice, the views are amazing and the Cabin has everything one would need for a vacation. We will be back.
What a beautiful cabin! Very welcoming and inviting. Had all the comforts of home, all we needed to bring was food and our luggage. Our children loved the loft and game area which came in handy when we were snowed in for 3 days. We would love to go back but it will be in the summer or fall.
Within a short distance of the cabin, there are many fascinating and
enjoyable places of interest. For those inclined towards outdoor
activities, there are: Numerous lakes and rivers for boating,
fishing, swimming, white water rafting, floating and other aquatic
Several national forest and state parks for hiking, picnicking,
sight-seeing, many water falls and mountain biking. A number of
including train rides, horseback riding, boat rentals and we are one
mile to the Cherokee Golf
Course! For those with a preference for indoor activities or driving
adventures, there are many to
choose from including museums, Indian villages, 3 miles to John C
Campbell Folk School, drive the
exciting nearby 'tail of the dragon' , art galleries, and the nearby
Biltmore Estate in Asheville,
NC or Rock City and Ruby Falls in Chattanooga, TN. The best thing
about Murphy is that you are
still close to it all. Come check us out, you will not be
