Enjoy the Lower Eastern Shore of Maryland and the Chesapeake Bay in a relaxing and peaceful way. The Deal Island Bay Cottage on Maryland's Eastern Shore situated on a large lot where you can unwind from the daily stresses of the beltway life. Watch the sunrise every morning as you eat breakfast from the cozy dining room while a symphony of bird sounds provide the music and entertainment. Activities reported by past guests include crabbing. Locals use a technique known as chicken necking where they tie a chicken neck to a weighted rope. Once the crab starts munching on the chicken, the rope is slowly pulled up and a net is used to get the critter. All supplies for are in the cottage except the chicken. Other guests have fished, boated and hunted, which is plentiful during the right season. Some say that the Deal Island Wildlife Management Area (WMA) is the mecca of duck hunting in the winter! So, use it as a hunting lodge and
bring home the fowl.
At dusk, take a walk to the beach on the other side of the bridge which is only 1 block away and watch the sun set into the bay as if you were sitting in Key West, Florida, but without the crowds. Keep an eye out for the many bird species that the Deal Island
Wildlife Management area is known for. Great Blue Herons, Canada Geese, unique ducks, gulls and more. "This region possesses an extensive variety of environments including barrier islands, coastal bays, tidal wetlands, cypress swamps, upland fields and primeval
forests. More bird sightings have been recorded here than in any other region of the state." (Birding Weekend)
If you do feel like driving for other adventures, Ocean City Maryland, Chincoteague, Virginia, Assateague Island National Seashore are all about an hour away. Salisbury and Crisfield, MD less than half an hour. Catch the summer passenger ferry to historic and
unique Smith Island from Crisfield. Smith Island is a community so long isolated from the mainland that the residents are known for still speaking in a form of Elizabethan English dating back to the 1600s. It is a unique place to experience.

This was a last minute vacation for us and we were lucky to find a location that accepted pets. We were not expecting to fall so in love with Deal Island and its beautiful solitude. The cottage was not fancy, but was extremely well-appointed. Everytime I thought "I wish I would have brought ___", all I had to do was open a cabinet to find the forgotten item. We did have a problem clearing the smelly water in the pipes as we were the first guests of the season; however, the owner was very responsive and helpful with this problem.
Very nice place to stay , very relaxing. Clean very homey
This was our second time renting a home in Deal Island and by far the best. (We've already booked this same place again for the summer) The place had everything we needed and not a single thing went wrong. Definitely looking forward to staying there again!
Clean rental with easy access to a sportsman's paradise! You can't find nicer and welcoming residents! Hope to be back multiple times this fall/winter
Cottage was clean and furnished nicely. The screened back porch was essential as the mosquitoes were big and plentiful as would be expected in a wetlands area. We used 40% DEET spray which worked well. The beach was nice and early morning and about sunset we had it to ourselves so our dog could run off leash. Owner responded promptly when we told him the satellite wasn't working. Only negative was that the septic tank right off the back porch overflowed whenever water was used. Maybe too remote for some people but close to fishing and crabbing areas
Booking was easy, and owner was very helpful... everything was just an email away. This was my first experience with this website and it was a very good experience. Property is EXTRA Spacious and perfect for families. Very well appointed with all that you might need. Decor is comfortable. Location is remote... but if you are coming to this area....that is just what you want. The Deal Island Beach is a fantastic find and I spent most my time there. Fantastic for dogs/kids/ and seaglass hunters! No "real" restaurants closeby (course, I am a foodie)... but Lucky's and Arby's can provide you with all of your simple essentials. I would suggest bringing a gallon of water upon checkin to get you started. Well water properties near salt water dont mix that well...same as where I live.. so I was used to this. There is a great selection of DVDs Tapes for your nighttime home entertainment... but excitement for me was finding the yellow DSL cable by the refrig!! Internet connection in a remote area was a fantastic amenity... one I didnt expect, but was thrilled to find!!
