About the property

Montelandi is a massive 10,000sqft villa with 8 bedrooms and 9 bathrooms - 2 kitchens - numerous reception rooms. Dining facilities for 20 people. 14 acres of grounds. Fenced swimming pool. Montelandi is wonderful for adventurous kids!!

It is a typical Tuscan villa set in acres of gardens and woodland above the Via Cassia, the old pilgrim road from Siena to Rome. The semi circular front garden gives a panoramic view of the ValD’Arbia and from the terrace we look across the valley to Montalcino, the little town famous throughout the world for its ‘Brunello di Montalcino’. It is a beautiful holiday home, private, peaceful and little changed for generations.

The villa developed from a farmhouse or wine fattoria many hundreds of years old. It became the summer residence and hunting lodge of the Crocchi, the principal family of the region who lived in the Castello in Torrenieri. Montelandi is now owned by Michael and Eleanor from the UK who have tried to remember their own holiday experiences and needs as they've welcomed guests to Tuscany over the years.

The local market town is Buonconvento, a medieval walled town with good shops, and plenty of restaurants and cafes. It has a weekly market on Saturdays and an interesting art gallery in a Liberty style villa near the Town Hall. There are small reasonably priced local trattoria and a great variety of eating places from farmhouses to outstanding gourmet restaurants on the vineyards.

There are the famous hill towns, Siena Montalcino, Montepulciano and Pienza to visit, the great Abbey of Monte Olivetto Maggiore and the beautiful Abbey Church of St Antimo. From the station at Buonconvento you can take trains to Siena or Florence or to Grosetto on the coast and to Rome The Crete is famous walking country and from Montelandi you can, for example walk to Monte Olivetto or Montalcino. It is a good idea to have a lift back after enjoying lunch!

Guestbook comments from the manager

I feel remiss in not writing to you earlier and I'm not sure if Sally has. I have just been going through photos from our visit to Montelandi back in May (still feels like yesterday) and wanted to say thank you. We had such a fabulous stay and loved every minute of our time there. Claudio was the perfect assistance to have around, we loved the cat (never found out his name) and thank you so much for the recommendation of Alessandra whom we did two cooking classes and two birthday lunch celebrations with. She was the perfect addition to our celebrations not feeling overwhelmed by our zealous celebrations.

We loved exploring the region and just staying put at the Villa and enjoying the surrounds. We were lucky enough to see the fireflies and enjoyed wandering the hills. We loved hearing the sheep bells ringing each morning to wake us up. The Faraway tree became a favourite place to visit (on the back road to Buonconvento). San Giovanni D'Asso was a great find, hidden away and lucky enough to be around for Truffle season. The history of the region is amazing (we have a great Aussie friend who lives not too far away who shared some wonderful history). The chanting of the monks in the nearby Abbey's, the food and the wine ... everything.

I wanted to share some of our wonderful memories. We'd be happy for you to use any of the comments and photos attached for your website or for testimonials. We'll definately be back and can't wait to start planning. Thanks for opening your home for people to visit. It really is a wonderful and very welcoming home.

Claudio, who looks after the Villa, will be able to help you with any of your needs during your stay at Montelandi. Marieangela will prepare special meals and can also give cooking lessons, if requested in advance. The Herb garden below the kitchen provides a variety of herbs for the cook of the day, along with the vegetable garden and the orchard, which have seasonal produce and guests are welcome to during their stay. The Crete is an area where the land undulates like the waves and tall Cypress trees stand alone or lining the drives to houses and farms. It is great walking country, but, don't worry, you don't need a tour guide - just a map. If you are not a serious walker you can anyway access all areas of interest by car. The Vineyards are the special attraction of the area. There are many with tasting rooms and restaurants for the local wines and other local produce. There is also Horse riding, Tennis, Hot Springs and Beauty Therapy available locally.

loved the house and the views. Would have liked another bathroom upstairs.

We found it very comfortable and spacious with good kitchens , plenty of crockery. Some nice pieces of furniture which helped the ambiance. We all really enjoyed the holiday.

Just the perfect place

  • 5 of 5

Spending a week at that villa was a great time for a group of us! Amazing place, great view, everything available, additional towels and everything what we could need. A piano, a fireplace with lots of wood (it was nice on cold evenings), great space outside to enjoy breakfast with the best view... It is just a place of your dreams. Claudio was very very helpful, he really took care of us, checking every day if everything was ok. Comparing to any other villas hat I rented before and after - this was the best 'second home' I've ever had! Thank you!

Montelandi, Italy

  • 5 of 5

It has been just over a week since we returned from Montelandi and my family, friends and I loved our stay! Thank you for making your home available to us. As this was our second visit, Montelandi remains as beautiful as my memory served and was the perfect home base for us as we explored Tuscany. We enjoyed the truly stunning views overlooking Montalcino while hearing peaceful morning sheepbells from the sheep grazing in distant fields and while complimenting our evening meals at sunset. Montelandi's pool was a great way to cool down and unwind after each day of exploration and sightseeing. Claudio was a great help to us during our stay and was always interested to know if everything was acceptable. One of our guests had trouble with their luggage arriving and Claudio, along with Mariangela, provided tremendous assistance to them in their efforts to retrieve their bags. Mariangela and Guido cooked some delicious meals for us and we were so grateful for the experience. We also thoroughly enjoyed Ristorante Percenna in nearby Buonconvento and found the food, setting and service to be delicious, breathtaking and welcoming! I hope we will be able to return to Montelandi again in the future.

More than I could have dreamed of

  • 5 of 5

Villa Montelandi was the perfect place to bring together friends and family from across the globe to celebrate a milestone birthday. From the moment we arrived we knew we had made the right choice from the cheerful greeting from Claudio the caretaker to the welcome note from the owners we were captivated and then we explored the Villa and grounds and we felt right at home.

The Villa is situated on a hill overlooking rolling Tuscan hills with crops being baled and across to Montalcino.

There was more than enough room for everyone with a combination of bedrooms, sofas and day beds to accommodate all our guests, two kitchens, a range of living spaces and the perfect outdoor setting which of an evening was lit up by dancing fireflies.

Our morning visits from Claudio were a treat and ensured we had 'no problems' throughout our three week stay, with cleaners coming in once a week to change bed linen and keep the place spic and span.

The location is perfect for exploring Tuscany and we discovered some wonderful restaurants, cafes and walks in the local area. Buonconvento is 6km away for regular supplies and a morning coffee (or for the energetic a 10km walk on back roads with spectacular views on the way)

The owners assisted with all our inquiries prior to arrival in particular helping us find Alessandra, a chef who came in and catered for a couple of birthday dinners as well as patiently running some cooking classes for us which are highly recommended.

Villa Montelandi was our home for a very special reunion with friends and family and will hold a very special place in the hearts of all of us who stayed, in fact we all keep dreaming of being back there. Highly recommended to anyone looking for the perfect Tuscan base to bring together family and friends.

Remarkable villa in gorgeous area of Tuscany

  • 5 of 5

It was a great treat to stay at Montelandi. Set atop a mountain with gorgeous views of the surrounding countryside, the villa accommodated all 18 of us very well. The rooms are lovely and the two kitchens are well appointed, with dining areas both inside and out that seated all of us (including four visitors one night). The owners provided excellent communications and the caretaker Claudio is a wonderful man, happy to help visitors in any way. We connected with Mariangela to provide food one night and the meal was delicious. The kids enjoyed the pool and the foosball game was a big hit.

Suggestions: 1. Consider putting foam bottoms on the upstairs kitchen chairs; the scraping noises were extremely loud in the bedroom below. 2. I don't know how difficult it would be to install screens, but the number of flies was an issue. (Maybe we're just spoiled Americans...)

Our visit was fantastic overall. Thank you.

An Extraordinary and Wonderful Experience

  • 5 of 5

There were fourteen children, one teenager and four adults in our party. I think I can safely say every one of us had wonderful time, this was a holiday that will live long in the memory of every one of us. The house is vast and at no stage did the large number of excited children become tiring as there was so much space for them. The Tuscan countryside is gorgeous and the house fits into it perfectly, perched high on an escarpment. The wildlife and the ever changing light are magical and weeks after returning our minds keep wandering back to various aspects of the place. We visited Rome, Orvieto and Siena twice as well as the more local towns. The four adults ate out in Montalcino and San Quirico and would especially recommend Boccon Divino. We are all longing to return to this place which now has a special place in our hearts.

Montelandi is a historic Villa in classic Tuscan style that was at one time a hunting lodge for the family that lived in the Castello in the village. It stands above the Via Cassia, the old pilgrim road from Florence and Siena to Rome, just beyond the old walled town of Buonconvento. From the terraces and gardens we look across the valley to Montalcino and the Brunello vineyards. Montalcino is probably the most famous wine town in Italy – so there are many vineyards to visit and tastings to be done!

Buonconvento is a delightful little town with lots of shops, delicatessens, butchers, fruiterers, grocers, artisan, leather and fashion shops. There are Trattoria, restaurants, bars and cafès. An art gallery, a museum and frequent festas and events.Montelandi is at the heart of the rolling countryside of the Crete within easy reach of historic little cities such as Pienza, Montepulciano and Siena. There are magnificent abbeys, castles and churches such as Monte Olivetto and St Antimo
