About Rita & Ed Kiely
We are a British couple in our 60's and have been married for 44 years and finally we went with our dream and moved to Saint Macaire Du Bois in February 2016. We live on site in the main Farmhouse. We have been busy since arriving and have made a lot of renovations and added the Pool which is a fantastic addition to the place installed Summer last year. We love having people around the place and are here if you need any information, advice or help on any subject or in organising things for you or your family to do whilst here on holiday you only have to ask but we are also very aware that you might like to do your own thing and explore for yourselves. For those who need to know we have a very friendly 4 year old dog on site who we rescued from the Dog Pound in March 2019. He is extremely well behaved and loves everybody (Our granddaughter is 3 and he adores her) He will not be in the Gite or disturb any of our Guests unless you invite him of course but just to let people know.
Rita & Ed Kiely purchased this Barn in 2016
Why Rita & Ed Kiely chose Saint-Macaire-du-Bois
Easy access to many beautiful places. Plenty of walking & cycling. Bird watching. New water park at Thouars. Le-Puy-Du-Fou is an excellent theme Park which when you Google you will see just how popular it is (Tickets can be obtained from the Local Tourist Office) Many of our Guests have been and said how wonderful the shows were. Wine Tours are all local with many of the local Vineyards offering tastings. Chateaux's, Markets, Village Festivals. Also very peaceful and relaxing at the property and ideal for a family holiday. Children and Adults alike just love the Pool area.

Super gite with helpful English owners next door
A super gite in a lovely rural location but near to lots of interesting places. The owners are very friendly, welcoming and helpful. We were very sad to leave!
Relaxing and very comfortable
A lovely relaxing place to stay. Very comfortable gîte with everything you could want. Great well maintained swimming pool and very welcoming hosts Ed and Rita. We really enjoyed our stay.
It was a pleasure having you stay and we are very pleased you enjoyed your holiday.
You would be more than welcome to return at any time.
A great place with great hosts
We have just returned from a fabulous time at 'The Barn'.
A well restored property in a rural area with a heated pool. Great attention to detail & great hosts - a friendly welcome and always on hand with advice.
Location good for visiting the local area and wineries a plenty!! Vineyard 5 minutes walk, boulangerie a short car trip or bike ride (if you're feeling energetic and not in the pool).
Absolutely loved this place and the great hosts made the stay even better!
We are very happy that you enjoyed your stay here at “The Barn” at Le Tilleul
You were the perfect Guests very friendly and sociable. We appreciate how clean you left the property on your departure which makes my Changeover so much easier - Thank You. We would love to have you back whenever you want to return. Regards. Rita & Ed
Great house with fantastic pool!
We really enjoyed our stay, especially cooling off in the pool during the heatwave. Ed and Rita are extremely friendly and helpful hosts. Lovely tranquil location in the countryside; great for cycling!
We are glad you enjoyed your stay at our Gite and love it when guests have had a good time on their Holidays. We hope to see you again sometime you would be very welcome to return. We hope you enjoyed Bordeaux after leaving us. Rita & Ed
Absolutely loved this place and having such lovely hosts made the stay even better!!
Pros: clean, spacious, airy, comfortable property. Literally home away from home. Ed and Rita had thought of everything we could need. Nice walks through vines and fields around the property. Vineyard down the road. The area itself is rural yet close to touristy towns and landmarks. The swimming pool nice and warm. We were allowed to help ourselves to Cherries and strawberries growing in the garden as well!!
Ed and Rita were always very helpful and providing recommendations on things to do around the area with their local knowledge (which is a massive bonus!)
We loved our stay and will be back definitely!
Pleasure having this lovely young couple and their 8 month old little girl to stay. She is a delight and such a happy little baby who enjoyed her swims in the Pool. You would be more than welcome to come back and visit anytime soon. Take care. Rita & Ed x
The Barn Gite Rental
A beautifully restored property in rural area with a heated pool. Great attention to detail & very welcome supplies await one on arrival. Weather didn't oblige during our 6 day stay but lovely owners couldn't have been more helpful with advice/suggestions for visits to various places of interest. Especially appreciated personal introduction to several nearby wineries!
Would love to return in more clement weather to enjoy leisurely outdoor meals & lolling by pool.
It was a pleasure having you stay at our Gite and you would be welcome to come back anytime you want to visit the Loire. Thank you for your kind remarks and also for leaving the Gite in a pristine condition when you left to go home. Hope to see you all again. Rita & Ed
ST MACAIRE DU BOIS
The beautiful town of Saumur which is on the banks of the Loire has a wealth of chateauxs, museums, art galleries, shops and restaurants. It is the home of the Le Cadre Noir Regiment and the National Equestrian Centre of France.
Le Puy-Notre-Dame just a short 5 minute drive from us has several village festivals every year including Le Grand Prix Retro Pre 1935 cars and motorbikes which race through the streets usually at the end of July which is great fun to all motor enthusiasts. It also has a beautiful Church and a couple of nice Restaurants. Plenty of really good cycling tracks through the stunning vineyards and country lanes.
Doue-La-Fontaine which is a 10 minute drive from us has a fantastic conservation zoo and is a must to visit for adults and children. It is dedicated to the protection and breeding of many endangered species and their release into the wild. Doue is also famous for being the rose growing centre of France with an amazing rose festival in July and a conservatoire of old fashioned roses. The town also boasts troglodyte houses and cave restaurants. Here you will find several large Supermarkets for your supplies plus a very nice little Town with a few shops and weekly it has a small market. Thouars which is about 25 minutes by car is a lovely place to visit and has a local farmers market which is really good for all your fresh meats, fish, fruit & vegetables plus much more which is on a Friday morning.
For history lovers the fairytale castles at Chinon and its memories of Joan of Arc - the Abbey at Fontevraud with the painted tombs of Richard the Lionheart - Henry II and Eleanor of Aquitaine the renaissance beauty of Azay-le-Rideau reflected in its moat - the unforgettable gardens of Villandry. There are hundreds of sites easily reached from here and all of them will fascinate and delight.
The Loire is a cyclists dream with excellent routes in every direction on beautiful smooth roads. Walkers can enjoy the way-mark routes around the forests and quiet roads. We have a number of Domains one within walking distance of our property and all have local wines to taste and purchase which is a must to all holidaymakers who love to indulge in a glass or two 🍾🍷🍾😀
