Bitterroot Valley House Rental Photos and Description

House, 2 Bedrooms + Convertible bed(s), 2 Baths, (Sleeps 4-6)

This vacation home is in a quiet, peaceful, park-like setting on four acres along the beautiful Bitterroot River, on a quiet country lane. The house is located at the north end of the Bitterroot Valley, at the south end of the Missoula Valley. Missoula is just 15 miles away and has much to offer with shopping, restaurants, museums, farmers markets, the University of Montana. Florence, 3 miles from the house, has several restaurants, a bank, grocery store, and medical facilities. There are several small towns to the south with a variety of restaurants, museums, historical attractions and special events and festivals.

Enjoy your morning coffee on the deck while you watch beautiful sunrises over the Bitterroot River and Sapphire Mountains. In the evening, watch the sun set over the Bitterroot Mountains. Fish, swim, or float the river behind the house or just take a chair down to the river and enjoy the scenery.

Wildlife abound. Canada geese and a variety of ducks use the river. Watch deer and fox wander through the property and eagles and osprey dipping for fish. Hike to nearby mountain trails, lakes, creeks, and ponds.

There are a number of golf courses in Missoula, Stevensville, and Hamilton. And for cyclists, there is a bike path from Lolo south to Darby.

The living room, with glass doors opening to the deck, faces the river and the Sapphire mountain range. The family room, which has a gas fireplace for cool evenings, faces west to the Bitterroot mountain range. It contains a futon that opens to queen-size bed. There are two bedrooms, each with a large bathroom. The main bedroom has a queen bed; the second bedroom has two twin beds.

A sunroom is connected to the main bedroom through french doors. It's a great place to sit and read, work on your computer, or just enjoy the view. The house is spacious and very well stocked and equipped, including your basic cooking essentials and supplies.

There are table and chairs and a gas grill on the east deck.

There is new flooring in the living room, dining room and kitchen. Last season we added a roof over the east deck and screened-in porch off the sunroom.

Limit of six staying at the house. Occasional guests are ok, but no large or noisy groups. Not suitable for "events" as this is a quiet area. Come for the peace and solitude.

About The Owner

We are Dutch and Nancy Dillon and live on the adjoining acreage. There are several acres with each house and lots of trees, so plenty of privacy for both. We've lived in the Bitterroot Valley since the 70's and just can't imagine living anywhere else. It's quiet, peaceful, and beautiful here. We take pride in ensuring the vacation rental is well maintained and that our guests have everything they need to make their stay most enjoyable. We have stayed in vacation rentals ourselves. Using that as a learning experience, we have tried to make our vacation rental as close to home as possible.

The Owner purchased this house in 2004

Why The Owner chose Bitterroot Valley

Peaceful. Quiet. Country living but can be to town (Missoula) in 15 minutes or head the other direction 15 minutes and hike mountain trails.

What makes this house unique

Watching the sun rise over the Sapphire mountains. Watching the change of colors in the river. Watching the sunsets over the Bitterroot mountains. Fishing in private in the early morning or evening. Quiet, quiet, quiet, only disturbed occasionally by meadowlarks, Canadian geese, and coyotes.

Wonderful, relaxing stay

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I stayed on the Bitterroot for 6 nights. I fished, she painted. The house was clean, well appointed and about 150 feet from the river. We saw 4 red foxes and some deer. Our stay was at the end of the Pale Morning Dun hatch, but I landed 30 trout in our time there. It was glorious. We'd go back again, and recommend it for folks who want to fish, paint or relax like the world is 500 miles away.

Relaxing vacation setting with a beautiful view

  • 5 of 5

Our family of four stayed for a week. We found the rental very comfortable and a relaxing place to be for our vacation needs. We spent some evenings fishing the Bitterroot, which is right in the backyard and enjoyed the lovely Mountain views out the front at any time of day. Conveniently located, we were never too far from the activities we desired for the day. Thank you for a wonderful stay! We enjoyed our time in Montana.

Beautiful House on the Bitterroot

  • 5 of 5

Nancy and Dutch provide a beautiful home on the banks of the Bitterroot River only about 20 miles south of Missoula. The snow capped Bitterroot Mountains provide the western backdrop and the Sapphire Mountains rise to the east. This was our second Spring Break trip to the house. It is so relaxing, peaceful and quiet. The perfect spot to wind down and then wind up to go fishing, practically right from the back deck. We see deer, wild turkeys, eagles, ospreys, hawks, and numerous other birds. The house sleeps at least six people and Nancy provides all the linens and supplies you need for your stay. Just bring the food and beverages and you are all set. We will certainly be back and in fact, this Spring Break at the house on the Bitterroot seems to be an annual tradition. Thanks, Nancy and Dutch, for sharing your beautiful house with us.

A very nice property looking over the Bitterroot River and pastures beyond. A large home, well kept with all needed amenities. Location great for fishermen, bird watchers. Near to many sights and towns of interest. Although owners are next property, there is plenty of space and privacy. Two negatives are lots of dog hair throughout home and TV channels quite limited.

Owner's Response: It is not economically feasible to have satellite or cable installed. Seven national stations plus at least six PBS stations are available over the air. As for the dog hair you mention, there were two rentals with two dogs each at the house prior to your arrival. Unfortunately, after 6 weeks of having dogs in the home, our normal cleaning procedure missed some of the dog hair. We take pride in having a house we would be proud to live in. The house has been thoroughly cleaned.

A perfect long weekend away!

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I had the most relaxing and fun weekend away - it was everything we were hoping for and more; beautiful scenery, secluded and quiet, room for a our lab to run, riverfront for fly-fishing and cooling off during day. Nancy and Dutch's rental is immaculate with everything you would need - all we brought was food and clothes and never missed a beat. It was 97 degrees all weekend and we used the floating tubes in the garage and hung out on the deck all day and in evenings. The home is very spacious and comfortable with plenty of games and books - the bbq seems brand new and the kitchen was great for cooking in. We will definitely be back!

It simply doesn't get any better......

  • 5 of 5

Perfect! That’s the only way to describe this place. Nancy and Dutch have done everything they can to make this truly a comfortable place to stay. The furnishings, décor and appointments leave nothing to be desired. The quietness of the area spoils you. The views are incredible and the river very accommodating if you are a fly fisherman.

We had planned on making several day trips while here but the covered patio, (one of two patios), refused to let us leave the house. If you must leave for groceries or shopping, Florence is just a few minutes away. Plan on seeing lots of wild life with eagles, deer and turkey the norm.

We are from Pennsylvania and this was to be the first stop of five fly fishing destinations. Frankly we have become spoiled by this place and are not looking forward to leaving. The only negative comment we have is we have to leave. We can’t wait until next year……………
