Why Rhonda Sonnenberg chose King William
As described in the book, Old Virginia Houses: The Northern Penninsulas, our home is distinguished by its peacefulness, largely due to the Mattaponi River, but also for the way the light enters the house. There is no better place to relax, meditate, feel the joy of life, than from the porch of our Bed and Breakfast. Yet it is conveniently located the major Civil War and Revolutionary War sites, the historic city of Richmond, wineries, and nature activities.
What makes this House unique
The location is perfect for travelers heading north to south or south to north because we are only 35 minutes from Richmond, an hour and forty-five minutes from Washington, DC., less than an hour from Colonial Williamsburg, and 90 minutes from Monticello in Charlottesville. Our house and land is truly an oasis of serenity near these major tourist centers.

A Must Stay
The historic North Point Plantation is a must see and stay. The beautifully restored house sits on well manicured property that overlooks a river. Views from their dock make you not wanting to leave this tranquil setting. The owners Rhonda and Bill are delightful, charming and eager to help you. We booked their house a year in advance to house our relatives for our daughter’s wedding. Although the wedding was elsewhere Rhonda kept in touch with us and helped us find local resources. She was very kind and we are grateful that she was so generous with her time and knowledge. When you stay at North Point Plantation you leave with having made 2 new friends - Rhonda and Bill. If you are in the Richmond area I highly recommend you stay at North Point Plantation or hold your next event there. Cheers, Mindy Evans
Mindy, have have the most wonderful family!! I can’t tell you how happy I was that you chose North Point for your treasured guests, for your most special weekend of your daughter’s wedding. Thank you again so much. I hope you will come see us again, even just for some goodies in the back porch.
My family and I recently stayed at North Point over the Christmas holiday, and it did not disappoint. This house offers everything needed to make wonderful Christmas memories. We cooked several meals during our stay, and the kitchen was fully stocked with anything required. There is ample seating in the kitchen and formal dining room for large dinner parties. Additionally, the views of the river are lovely, and it’s nice to walk the grounds to get a closer look. Rhonda was excellent with communication, and any questions were answered immediately. She also does a wonderful job decorating the main level of the house for Christmas. The 2 toddlers in our group loved seeing 3 Christmas trees and many fireplaces for Santa to choose! An added bonus was the karaoke machine in the living room. That was some fun evening entertainment. Christmas at North Point is pretty special, but any time of year would be wonderful. There’s much history to read about while there and many rooms and floors to explore. One note...if your group has young children, they will require some supervision. There are quite a few staircases and many antiques. We brought baby gates, which did the trick for us! We all truly enjoyed our stay.
...and that is an understatement! My husband and I had our wedding at North Point Plantation in November of 2018. We first discovered the Plantation in late March or early April. After quick and consistent emailing with Rhonda, we set a date to come see the Plantation. I could tell right off the bat that Rhonda's personality is out of this world. When we first arrived at the Plantation, we knew this would be "our place" but did not want to jump to conclusions too quickly. After a thorough tour around the property and in the home, we fell in love. North Point is so well taken care of by Rhonda and Bill. The home itself has an enormous amount of history and the passion in keeping that history alive is infectious. After the tour, we sat down with Rhonda and Bill and chatted for a few hours. We sent in our check the next day.
Our wedding was perfect. Literally. Everything I hoped and dreamed it would be. Below I am posting the pros and cons my husband and I discussed throughout our eight months of planning with North Point/Rhonda.
1. The beauty of the property itself is well maintained, with great views too!
2. The history that the owners keep alive.
3. The space inside the home (we fit 12 guests with blow up mattresses)
4. The convergence of timely furniture with a modern touch.
5. Rhonda is phenomenal. Thorough, consistent, and beautiful! I never had any issues communicating with Rhonda and her lively personality pours out of her like rays of sunshine!
6. In regards to pros about the Plantation as a wedding venue - HIGHLY recommend. Rhonda pointed us in the direction of many wonderful vendors and even an incredible wedding planner! We look forward to coming back to this gem of a property in the future for our anniversaries. The Plantation was perfect for a private, small, and intimate wedding.
1. The only con my husband and I really could think of was there was one instance of an unexpected expense. Fortunately, it was handled very professionally and communicated effectively so all parties understood. It was more of an inconvenience than a con.
In conclusion, North Point Plantation is a hidden treasure among a world of deteriorating history. Its owners are passionate about sharing this beautiful property with anyone who is willing to share its love. Please visit North Point, you will not be disappointed.
Perfect Family Weekend
North Point was the perfect place for our family to stay for our daughter's wedding. The home and grounds are exceptionally beautiful, and Rhonda is a wonderful host. We had already booked a wedding venue when we found North Point, but I can't imagine a more scenic spot for a wedding.
Laura, it was my great pleasure to host your wonderful family during your special time. I hope to see you again in the not too distant future. And then, there is always your lovely other single daughter....😊
Amazing historic retreat!
Our group, the Regency Society of Virginia, hosts an annual retreat for ladies in which we can indulge our love of the early 19th century. We had been looking for a new venue for this event and happened across the listing for North Point and I'm so very glad that we did. The property itself is stunning. It's not a museum, certainly, but it retains the feel of an elegant early American manor both inside and out which is precisely what we were looking for. The accommodations are comfortable, the kitchen allowed us to easily serve a good-sized group of ladies throughout the weekend, and Rhonda and Bill were fabulous hosts. If you are searching for a home which stays true to its historical roots but has been updated enough to make you feel at home, you really can't beat the charm of North Point.
Loved the house and grounds. Perfect for a wedding!
