Beautiful stone house with private pool & lake on the edge of a bustling village

Bedrooms 2
Space 365 sq. ft.
Property type house
Minimum Stay 3 - 7 nights

About the property

Nestled in the heart of the French countryside and yet only a 2 minute walk from the nearest village with shops, restaurants and bars, this is life at it's best.

The house sits at the edge of the village of Cazals on the border of the Dordogne and Lot regions of France. Forming part of a larger property hidden away from the outside world behind a large wall. The house sits on the edge of beautifully landscaped gardens with private pool, summer kitchen and pétanque pitch all leading down to the private lake and woodland, setting the backdrop for an amazing holiday home.

The property itself is a spacious and light, detached house that forms one side of an enclosed courtyard. You will have exclusive use of this house and its gardens. The thick stone walls offer a cool escape from the heat of the sun, whilst inside is very spacious and light. With a generous sized kitchen, living/dining space with open tread staircase leading to 2 large double bedrooms (approx 15m²/ 49 sq ft each). The property boasts 2 bathrooms (2x shower, 1x bath). The light and airy interior overlook the salt water pool and gardens and the calming colours of the bedrooms will ease you into a perfect night sleep every night.

The private pool area directly in front of the gîte means that you can work on that tan from the moment you wake up. When hunger calls, preparing your food has never been easier with a fully equipped kitchen inside the gîte or on the barbeque in the summer kitchen outside. In the evenings when the sun isn't quite as powerful, brush up on your pétanque skills on your very own pétanque pitch. You'll be soon joining in with the locals on the village square!

If you still feel like to keeping in touch with the outside world then a wi-fi connection is available for your use.

The house shares an enclosed courtyard (behind the property) with the owners. The owners have their own private gardens leaving the main grounds free for you to enjoy.

Please note that the house is a large house for 4 people and could easily sleep more, however, this house is for those who want to holiday in style. 2 large bedrooms, sleep 4, in comfort. We understand that for most people their holiday is something that they look forward to for months and we don't want you to be disappointed. We have furnished the property based on what we have liked and disliked when renting holiday property, ie. real bedrooms, no bed settees or curtains dividing a room! Solid wooden sun loungers with cushions, no white plastic, even a drinks fridge in the summer kitchen. Hopefully all the right ingredients to make your holiday something special.

Why Sarah chose Cazals

We fell in love with our house as soon as we saw it. That magical feeling of finding more than we could have wished for, with the bonus that we're within walking distance from the village. Unlike a lot of houses in the country, it means that we can leave our car for days, as we go everywhere on foot or by bike.

The house itself is like something out of a fairy tale... the impressive entrance leading you into an enclosed courtyard, hidden from prying eyes. Once inside the grounds you have the impression that you're the only people for miles around, surrounded by nature's finest.

In addition to the house and gardens we are in the middle of gorgeous countryside and within a short drive to all the big sites. Sarlat is one of our nearest large towns and every other village is a medieval village dating back hundreds of years.

This area is famous for its food. If you're like us, who enjoy eating and drinking, you're in heaven. Most of the food is locally grown and the vineyards, just on the other side of the river Lot are bursting with different wines, perfect for your next meal.

Life is like it used to be, like when we were young. Getting back to nature, eating good food, drinking fantastic organic wines and just relaxing.

What makes this house unique

Our "raison d'être" is to make sure that you have the best holiday you can. Whether you want to spend every day visiting something or somewhere different nearby, whether you just want to relax by the pool or you want to dine out at great restaurants, we are here to help.

Our gite is unusual in that it is an exclusive holiday let within walking distance of a bustling village. The house is all yours, the pool is all yours, the pétanque pitch, the private lake and the grounds are all ready and waiting for you.

This is a region that is scattered with lovely houses, although most are miles from anything and every time you need something you have to get the car out. We are only 400m from the village of Cazals, which is a bustling, thriving, village with everything that you could want: 2 bars, 2 restaurants, a pharmacy, bank, tennis courts, football pitch and Plan d'Eau (public swimming lake). During the summer months there is an abundance of night time markets, local fêtes and plenty of special nights that you can eat and drink at without having to take your car.

Throughout the year, every Sunday the village comes alive with the weekly market. More of a social event than a market, this is where everyone comes to buy their local produce and catch up on the latest gossip.

The surrounding countryside is littered with footpaths and empty roads, perfect for cycling. If you're feeling like a bit of exercise then there are some fantastic restaurants within an easy cycle.

We are well placed for that feeling of being away from it all and yet not far from anything!

Perfect in every way-wonderful position, gorgeous gite

  • 5 of 5

My husband & I & our adult son & his girlfriend had the most wonderful week in this beautiful stone gite with own private pool, fabulous hosts & position perfect 5 minutes walk into Cazals & 20-30 minutes from many other small, interesting towns with an outdoor food market on everyday of the week at one of these towns. All the correspondence with Sarah, the owner, from reserving the property to receiving a personal welcome letter in the mail were effiently responded to. The gite is perfect for 2 couples or a family of 4 with a well equipped kitchen with all of the basics supplied (a welcome change-salt, pepper, oil, milk, tea, coffee pods etc). There is also a welcome basket with baguette, pate, chocolates etc-a really nice touch. The alfresco dining area with BBQ was the perfect place for dining & the pool area devine with total privacy overlooking the rolling grass down to your own lake. Badminton, bocce, feeding the fish in the lake all extra fun activities for adults & children alike. So many extras included such as a personal letter of what was on during our weeks stay-outdoor film festivals, where the markets were held, car boot sales etc made planning our week even easier. A box of brochures & Sarah & Johns recommendations of what to do also assisted with deciding what activities we would do-visiting wineries, shopping for our food at the markets, canoeing down the Dordogne river (an absolute must do). We had a memorable, relaxed, fun week & would recommended this cottage highly.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your lovely review. We loved meeting you all. I have since found another gorgeous vineyard for you to visit next time you're in the area and we found your favourite cheese on the market and have been trying it again and again!

Beautiful gite in a great location with excellent facilities

  • 5 of 5

We had an absolutely brilliant time at La Grange du Lac.

The house is very clean, well designed and very thoughtfully equipped (all the details have been thought through - olive oil, soy sauce and even tea bags in the kitchen!).

The grounds and pool are stunning. Where else do you have your own private lake to potter around with your morning coffee and pain au chocolat?

The local village of Cazals is lovely and has everything you need - two boulangeries, a boucherie and a little supermarket - it mean everything you need is only a few minutes away.

We also had some superb evening meals here - there are excellent restaurants all within 20 mins drive. The 2 Michelin starred le Gindreau is well worth a visit and nowhere near as expensive as you would pay in UK. 61 euros for 3 courses.

Sarah, John and George are excellent hosts. They are very knowledgeable about the area and are very helpful with directions, restaurant bookings and local information. They really made our stay extra special.

Our dog Norm was also very welcomed by their dogs Winnie and Shelby. Norm did not want to leave at the end of our stay!

We would definitely recommend this house to couples, families, friends and dogs! A wonderful holiday.
