Bari Sardo, known as Barì until the establishment of the Kingdom of Italy, is a small town of about 4000 inhabitants located in the eastern center of the Ogliastra. It borders the municipalities of Tortolì north, Ilbono, Lanusei Loceri and west, and Cardedu south and is about 4 kilometers from the sea. Its economy, little changed over time and still tied to agriculture and pastoralism makes the country still remains enveloped by its ancient and fascinating traditions and the lilting rhythms of life of a not too distant past. Its enchanting land, with nature, the colors and scents of the Mediterranean, still largely unspoiled, rich in archaeological sites, allows the visitor to experience one of the most fascinating Ogliastra. Divided between the plateau Teccu of the jewels of Bari Sardo, the plain of Barì tower, the plateau of Su Pranu, which gives to the eye and heart of different sights, the rolling hills and mountains, and the vast Pizzu Pranargia of plain, offering variety of environments, colors and scents that make it the ideal place to meet and enjoy a piece of truly unspoiled nature. The coastline, which stretches for about 10 kilometers, from the beautiful town of Cea, continuing in the dark cliffs of Teccu, the beautiful beach of Torre di Bari and sa Marina, only to end up in the immense beaches of Pranargia and Foddini, consists of several types of beaches and cliffs that meet the tastes of all lovers of the sea.
The position enjoyed Bari Sardo, central and privileged within the territory ogliastrino, ordained by nature as an amphitheater, it allows the guests to easily move to all points of the province; Bari Sardo is in fact set up as an ideal starting point for discovering the natural beauty and the cultural specificities of which Ogliastra is rich.
The Ogliastra region is located in the central eastern part of Sardinia It faces to the south and east of the Tyrrhenian Sea, bordered to the northwest of the province of Nuoro and south-west with the province of Cagliari.
The state name apparently derives from Olivastri of which is rich territory, although others attribute the origin to the huge monolith overlooking the sea located on the coast of Baunei and named Agugliastra (or Pedra Longa).
That Ogliastra, with its 23 small countries, is the least populated province and longest running in Italy, with the highest concentration of centenarians; It offers unspoilt nature and a wide variety of wild and beautiful landscapes. Short distances you can switch its beautiful and varied coastline, bathed by a crystalline sea, the gentle hills, covered with thick Mediterranean bush, up to the old-growth forests or the majestic mountains of the Gennargentu with its frequently snow-capped peaks.
