Oxen Fell Cottage has a spacious, modern feel, whilst retaining the charm of a traditional cottage. 'Visit England' has awarded the property Four Stars ****.
We have reduced the prices to accommodate the service charge that HomeAway has added.
The well-equipped kitchen/diner comes complete with dishwasher, and has granite worktops and under-cupboard lighting. A washing machine and tumble dryer can be found in the washhouse. The solid wood table and chairs are positioned under an ordnance survey map based on Oxen Fell Cottage, so you can plan tomorrow's walk or reflect on today's over a meal. A highchair is provided for little ones!
The lounge enjoys attractive woodland views and has comfortable seating for four across two sofas. The wood burning stove provides that sense of cosiness, warmth and well-being so welcome after a day out on the fells. As well as the TV/DVD player, jigsaws of local scenes, games and books about the local area help you feel at home.
Both bedrooms enjoy lovely views: one looks towards the fells of Wetherlam and Swirl How, the other looks onto woods that are covered with bluebells in the spring. One bedroom has a kingsize bed, and the other twin beds. Each bedroom has its own ensuite; one has a bath with power shower over, the other a shower cubicle. The beds are made up for you before you arrive. For young guests, a travel cot and stair gate are provided.
Outside a patio table with four chairs looks down the path towards the fells, whilst the bench outside the front is the perfect spot for reading, or chatting over a glass of wine. The lockable washhouse doubles up as secure cycle storage.
Oxen Fell Cottage is idyllically situated in Little Langdale. You can enjoy high-level or low-level walks in any direction from the cottage, or, alternatively, you could cycle. Little Langdale is now quiet and peaceful, belying its industrial past. One hundred years ago, Little Langdale was known for its quarries, which still scatter the landscape, and Oxen Fell Cottage was built to provide housing for the quarrymen.
WiFi connection means that the outside world need not be completely lost. A landline phone is provided for incoming and emergency calls. Heating is by thermostatically controlled electric heaters and night storage heaters. Towels are provided. One small to medium sized dog is welcome. Changeover day is Friday, and short breaks are available out of season. A welcome pack greets you with all the basics to start the week. Whilst the cottage does not have allocated parking, there is on-street parking close by.
Close by the cottage is a superb view over the valley. Little Langdale has a number of sights: Slaters Bridge, Cathedral Quarry and Colwith Force. The lovely village of Elterwater lies nearby, and Skelwith Force and Great Langdale are within easy walking distance. Refreshments are available in Little Langdale in the Three Shires Inn, in Elterwater or Chapel Stile.
