Overview

About the property

Old School House

As such this is one of Clifden’s listed buildings and many of the original features remain, including the large stone fireplace, the exposed stone walls, old pine floors, doors and the original pine staircase.

Clifden is a lively and friendly town with excellent restaurants, authentic pubs and nice shops. It’s a 1-minute walk down to the high street.

This is an excellent base for touring the Connemara, a gorgeous and haunting area. There’s much to see and do here. There’s golf, of course. The beaches are beautiful, empty and clean. At every turn, you’ll see glorious scenery. There are Irish craft shops, many ancient Celtic sites and opportunities to ramble in the Twelve Bens.

Children are warmly welcomed to this property. This house books very fast so we suggest you book early.

There is a pay as you go wifi dongle at the house or most restaurants cafes have free access just down the street.

Fantastic week in Clifden

  • 4 of 5

The old school house is a wonderful base for a holiday in this beautiful part of Ireland and is ideal for a group gathering (there were 7 of us). It’s well equipped and very comfortable, also really handy for the lovely town and local excellent Valu supermarket. The only slight drawback is that the driveway curve and slope makes parking a bit of an art. There’s room for 2 cars but turning room only for 1 at the top (we ended up parking our other car on the road by the church which was fine). Some of the plumbing is also quite old (eg the cistern of one of the loos takes about 10 minutes to refill after flushing). Otherwise fantasti.

Clifden and the Old School House were wonderful!

  • 5 of 5

The Old School House is very charming, but it is an old building so it has its quirks. The stairs are creaky, you can hear conversations through the floor, and one of the bedrooms is partially open to the downstairs so you can easily hear what is going on in the kitchen. That being said we all loved our stay there and thought it was perfect. The house is located one block (up hill) off the main square and there are many wonderful pubs and restaurants within walking distance.
