A beautiful unique but traditional villa in the heart of Funchal has been lovingly restored, enhancing the charm of the 20's with a modern luxurious twist. Boasting fantastic views of the port, city and ocean, from a quiet neighbourhood, within a 10 minute walk from the centre of town and Marina. The villa sits higher than her neighbours, over a 600m2 square plot, offers private parking, electric gates and CCTV.....Fully equipped with large outdoor dining area for 12 people, this home can sleep from 2 to 10 people.

This property is a gem, every aspect has a beautiful vista that overlooks the mature raised garden beds, from the house toward the miradouro and into the views.....Grape and trumpet vines create lovely shaded areas over the garden patio, allowing several areas to sit and sink in the views. Estrelicia, kiwi, passion fruit, pipinella and colourful shrubs and flowers, a small herb garden with banana sits below in front of the garden flat near the parking area.

Entertaining or eating alfresco can be enjoyed under the covered courtyard adjoining the kitchen or on the front porch, or even the miradouro......choose the balcony to enjoy a cocktail and watch the cruise ships come into port or the sunset.

The villa dates back to the 1920's with high ceilings and elaborate decorative finishings. Renovation work to restore this beautiful building started at the end of January 2016 and took a year to complete. As of February 2017 it is now available for rental, having been lovingly restored to a very high standard, keeping the charm and beauty of a traditional house whilst upgrading it to bring it up to date with a mix of modern, with luxurious simplicity.

The villa has 5 bedrooms, 3 are double with one ground floor ensuite, 2 singles, one with adult bunks and the other 2 single beds.

3.5 bathrooms, with Jacuzzi shower wet room, bath tub, and a separate wc (next to the laundry room that doubles as a garden bathroom as well).

A large well equipped kitchen, with dining table leads onto the outdoor covered area that seats 12. Gated entrance from the rear via a narrow pedestrian road, near a stream.

Off road parking for 5 cars, with electric gates. 3 cars can be parked inside the gates and two in the private drive the other side of the gates. Direct route to Funchal - Bus stop at the end of the drive. Walking to Funchal city centre takes around 15 minutes. Close to bars, cafes and large supermarket as well as easy access point to the Via Rapida.

There is a small garden by the parking and also a garden flat. The owner uses this to see in guests and for weekends. She will be onsite for the first day upon guest arrival to be available for any tips, advice or questions. the garden flat is situated under the Miradouro and does not impinge on the privacy of guests staying in the main house.

Staying here through Christmas, New Year and during June is a must, as the spectacular fireworks displays can be seen from all aspects of the property from a perfect vantage point!

When I saw this property it was dilapidated but utterly charming. The views were breathtaking as the position of the property and the location are in an excellent area. It took a year to restore the property as well as upgrading and enhancing the outdoor areas too. My family have all stayed in the house and are impressed with how it looks now to what it was year ago, they love the area and the convenience of somewhere in Funchal and within walking distance to town, whilst staying in a quiet and friendly neighbourhood.

It is the perfect spot for New Year as the property offers the most spectacular vantage point to witness the wonderful fire works.....This goes for in June too!

What makes this villa unique

I have always liked old properties (I restored my own Quinta in Ponta do Sol). This house has beautiful ceilings and wood floors, with a colonial frontage that appeals to me....I have never been so excited as I was when I purchased this property! It was a joy to renovate (although we encountered many problems along the way)! But the challenge of bringing it up to date, with a mix of modern, whilst keeping its authentic charms was fun and it works!

The biggest wow when you walk through the gate is the fantastic view over the city and the harbour. One gets a birds eye view of the cruise liners as they sit in port and is an excellent spot to watch the fireworks during the Festival of the Atlantic and of course New Years Eve.

Despite the charm of the house itself, the biggest asset and the wow factor is the view. As the house sits on its own elevation above the neighbors, the entire front of the property has an uninterrupted view of Funchal and the harbour. From the house all the front facing rooms have the same, as well as the balcony to sit from a higher vantage point.

Since I bought the house and it has been the source of some attention from people I know, i have been asked to sell it, several times.....its a unique property, one that I will never find again and it's a keeper!

  • There are 5 bedrooms. One double bedroom is on the ground floor with an ensuite bathroom and shower. The other 4 bedrooms are on the first floor and share a large family bathroom, with bath and shower. There is also a large family bathroom with wet room and Jacuzzi shower on the ground floor. Please note, this property can sleep 10 people but ideally is for 8 people. One single has bunk beds that can convert into two singles and the other bedroom has one single bed that converts into two. When both rooms have both beds assembled in this way, space becomes very limited.

Located so close to the city centre means that everything is literally on the doorstep. Bus stop is at the base of the driveway and walking is 10 minutes into the centre. If you hire a car, one can see the entire island and everything it has to offer! The property is situated in a quiet neighbourhood and offers superb views over the city and harbour.

Even though we are a short walk from the centre of town, the location of the property is the first house off the main Rua do Til, that leads directly up to Monte. Here you can visit the spectacular Monte Palace gardens, the famous monte church and then whizz back down the hill in a wicker toboggan!

Final Clean Fee $73.84
Refundable damage deposit $123.06

The basic rental price is based on 2 people renting the property. Please add 15 euros per night for each extra person.
The deposit is non refundable if cancellation is less than 60 days of the rental date.
There is now a Hot tub/spa on site. It is emptied and cleaned with each new guest booked and chlorinated while being used. An instruction manual, disclaimer and conditions of use will be supplied on arrival. If more than 4 guests are staying at the property, you may be asked for a breakages deposit. The owner has the right to refuse usage of the tub, should she feel that conditions will not be met or there is a risk to guests through using the equipment.

  • Canceled bookings will not receive a refund
