Luxury 2 bed secure stone cottage - courtyard south facing - dog friendly.
This cosy cottage comfortably sleeps 4 people plus an additional 2 ( on sofa bed in lounge £5.00 per person per night extra)
The Cathedral of the Peaks is simply a magnificent Church standing proudly on the edge of the village. The clock does strike which to us sounds lovely & the bells do get rung particularly on a Friday evening, it must be practise night. You can start many beautiful walks from our doorstep without going anywhere in the car BUT alternatively you are so close to one of the most beautiful places in the Peak District - the Monsal Trail which is a traffic free 8.5 mile wheelchair friendly former old railway line. The views are stunning and these are just 5 mins away in a car.
Just an ideal proximity to all Nigel's favourite spots for his landscape photograph. It now takes him literally 15-20 mins to get in position ready for dawn breaking as opposed to 1.5 hours. The villagers themselves have been really welcoming. The Horse & Jockey pub is approximately 150 steps away from our back door, which means I can have a drink or two now. The bus stop is very close to us so I could get into Buxton/Bakewell/Castleton or go to Sheffield or many other places via a bus enjoying the countryside views on my way & again not having to drive. We have a Cherry Tree Cafe literally a stones throw away from us and in the village we have a newly refurbished CO-OP, a traditional family butcher, local bakery & of course the Post Office. We have four tea rooms all serving great food & a posh restaurant for that special occasion. Not forgetting two fish & chip shops our favourite being Mr Elliotts & 4 pubs all within walking distance.

About Julie or Nigel Halliwell
Nigel & I have been together for over 25 years and we have travelled quite extensively with Nigel's love of landscape photography behind many of the choices of our destinations. We both strive for perfection in our home & garden but don't quite achieve it due to our lovely little dog Lilly, who we adore & forgive anything!
Julie or Nigel Halliwell purchased this Cottage in 2015
Why Julie or Nigel Halliwell chose Tideswell
It was just the right size for us 3, great kerb appeal even prior to the renovation & in exactly the perfect location for Nigel to get to his 'remote' spots for sunrise and sunset. The abundance of local shops including pubs & cafes meant I could have a 'tipple' without worrying about driving home.
What makes this Cottage unique
Large master bedroom with exposed beams but with plenty of headroom. Secure courtyard for toddlers & dogs. Entrance is not direct off the street into the lounge meaning the lounge remains snug and private. Situated on a corner you can watch the world go around and sun shines on the front of the property in the morning and then on the end in the afternoon - perfect.

A super family holiday, away from chores and routine, in fabulous accommodation!
We had a fantastic time in Tideswell, staying at Julie and Nigel's wonderful cottage. Our 11 year old son - a huge fan of home renovation programmes and a discerning critic of all things interior (!) - thought that the house was superb in every way: the glossy kitchen, the calming colours and the soft throws and fabrics. We all agreed with him - it felt like we were staying in a luxurious hotel suite but with the independence of self-catering. The village itself has everything that you need to make your stay easy and comfortable: a couple of good pubs, cafes for breakfast or lunch and a handy shop. The area around Tideswell offers lots of things to do and we were busy every day, despite the variable weather. There are many beautiful walks in close proximity, whether you want to wander by the river - our favourite type of walk - or climb into the hills around; cycling the Monsal Trail was also something that we really enjoyed. Thank you, Julie and Nigel, for a fabulous break!
Immaculate cottage in gorgeous location
A truely gorgeous cottage, the owners have thought of every detail from hot dog shower to hotel quality bedding. Recently renovated it is truely a first class property in a central location. Couldn't have been happier, spent a lovely 3 nights albeit very snowy and would highly recommend. Tideswell is a picturesque village with pubs, cafe & shops. Walks from the doorstep are great & coming back to a roaring fire & a bottle of red in The Old Toffee Shop was rather splendid! Book it you won't be disappointed & Julie the owner is lovely and accommodating - first class!
Bless your heart for kindly sending this 'glowing' review about our '2nd home' it is great to know you enjoyed the cottage & that you too loved our adopted home of Tideswell in what is a truly beautiful part of unspoilt countryside that is the Peak District. I am delighted that your little dog got to enjoy the luxury of his own ' hot shower'. Rest assured we do get some glorious sunny days in Tideswell & our little courtyard is a sun trap - you were just lucky to get some snow! Thank you so much for recommending us & we hope to maybe welcome you back on another occasion. Been great getting to know you & yours by text - lovely.
A wonderful post-Christmas stay!
We arrived at The Old Toffee Shop on Boxing Day - a beautifully appointed and really practical base for a few days exploring the Monsal Trail and Chee Valley with our two boys. The cottage was warm, comfortable and a pleasure to call home, even just for three nights!
It is so re-assuring to have another positive review to add to our little band of happy customers & we really appreciate you taking the time to do this for us. Our aim at TOTS was to create something clean/smart & simple but not forgetting the things that make a place feel like a home - sounds like we succeeded for this lovely family. Delighted.
Stunning Cottage with everything You could possibly need
Thank you Julie for an amazing week Your attention to detail is outstanding from the minute we booked to even letting us know once there when curry and quiz night was in the local pub. The cottage had the most comfortable beds we have ever had on holiday, and every need was catered for ,hair dryers, coffee machine, boot room and although we didn't take our dog in the end a doggy shower was provided for those muddy paws. we will be back julie what a wonderful week.
Oh Angela - THANKYOU So very much for putting ‘pen to paper’ & to post such a glowing review of our beloved cottage. I am so glad you had what appears to be a relaxing break & we would of course be delighted to have you back any time. Kindest regards
Julie & Nigel Halliwell
PS should you any photos taken during your stay at TOTS or recommendations for other guests it would be really helpful if you had time to post them on our Facebook page - The Old Toffee Shop - no pressure & no rush your review was in itself gratefully received 💜💜💜
Wonderful cottage, great location
We've just stayed at TOTS and have loved every minute of it. The cottage is immaculate, yet homely, and every thing has been thought of by the excellent host Julie. The beds are very comfortable. The village itself is lovely and a great place to unwind. Would definitely recommend this cottage.
It is really good to know that you were happy with the standard of cleanliness and that you loved the cottage and the village. It is now almost 2 years since we purchased our little cottage and we still never tire of coming up to Tideswell ourselves. It is special village & we are still exploring the many beautiful walks close by and other nearby villages ourselves. Thank you for choosing to stop at TOTS and we hope that you will consider us again. We really appreciate your taking time to submit a lovely review.
The old toffee shop is stunning, this beautiful home provides luxury and a real homely feel. We felt like we had booked into five star accommodation, nothing has been overlooked to make your stay perfect, the interior design is amazing (and the coffee machine is awesome) We booked last minute for a short break and it was perfect. A family of 4 and the fur baby enjoyed long walks and cozy nights in Tideswell. The village offers everything you need on the back drop of the beautiful Peak District. The old toffee shop has been lovingly restored with a real touch of luxury. We could not have hoped for a more perfect place for our short break and would recommend it hands down. All made stress free by the attentive contact by Julie to make sure we had everything we needed. Enjoy!
WOW your review has surpassed our expectations & I am thrilled you loved it so much. It was a pleasure for Nigel & I to meet you and your family especially the lovely Ember who bounced her way into my heart immediately. Delighted that you had a what sounds like a relaxing time. Please let Kate & Rea know that I have just agreed with a very well respected and experienced Mobile Beauty Therapist to come and provide treatments for guests whilst stopping at our cottage, makes for a special Girly Weekend! Once again thank you for stopping with us and hopefully you might choose to come again sometime. Kindest regards to you all.
