The Lake District, home to England’s largest natural lake and highest mountain, has joined the likes of the Grand Canyon, the Taj Mahal and Machu Picchu by being awarded Unesco World Heritage status. Come and visit the Lakes for yourself and be inspired by the unique ‘cultural landscape’ which has won this special global recognition.

As winter ends, we begin to look forward to spring in the Lake District. Springtime in Cumbria sees the county turn all shades of green, red & yellow as the valleys & hills come to life. The county comes alive with blossoming trees, dazzling carpets of bluebells and an array of golden daffodils brightening the lake shores. Spring is truly a beautiful time of year to visit.

Oak Leaf provides an ideal base for a couple to get away and relax in a pretty village setting. Recently re-furbished to the highest standard, with lovely fell views from the bedroom. There is a small patio area, with table and chairs to enjoy the view of Skiddaw. The ground floor is open plan, and comprises: lounge, dining area and kitchen. The comfortable lounge has 2 easy chairs,

TV, DVD, CD/radio player and dining table for two. The kitchen has an integrated oven, gas hob, microwave, fridge with freezer compartment. There is also access to additional shared freezer, as well as washing machine and tumble dryer, all located in the garage. Steps lead up to the bedroom, which has a super king-size bed (this can be split into twin beds - please advice on booking) and TV, DVD and clock alarm. The en-suite bathroom has a bath, with deluge shower over, detachable head, washbasin, WC and heated towel rail. Wi-Fi broadband internet access. Private off-road parking.

The Northern Lakes covers one half of the Lake District National Park. This is the perfect area to choose equally for gentle relaxation or an action packed family adventure holiday with lots of things to do. Nestling on the shores of Derwentwater, the stunningly located town of Keswick, offers a wide array of shops, galleries, pubs and restaurants. Make a visit to the Pencil Museum, take a cruise on the lake and see the latest production at Theatre by the Lake and you will realize why it is called The Heart of The Lakes. Walkers and climbers are spoiled for choice. From the high summits to forest trails and lakeside paths, there are walks to suit all abilities from the doorstep. About Caroline Bonkenburg

My name is Caroline and together with my husband, Hans and our two boys we moved to The Lake District in 1990. We love this beautiful part of England and with the Lakeland fells on our doorstep can indulge in our passion for walking with our little West Highland Terrier, Pemba.

Living locally and being involved in the hospitality industry since 1990, has helped us to develop an understanding of what the many visitors to the area are looking for. We take an active role in looking after Oak Leaf and are always at hand to answer any questions, and help you make the most of your holiday with us.

Set in the picturesque hamlet of Braithwaite, this beautifully located property, with its magnificent views towards Skiddaw and Blencathra, offers its guests easy access to all the many tourist attractions in the Northern Lake District. There are three good pubs, serving hearty local food, all within walking distance.

Autumn is officially here, and with it crisp mornings and blustery walks, flurries of leaves and bonfire smoke. The Lakes are especially beautiful in autumn and winter, when the forests blaze with ruddy colour, and the fells are bathed in golden light. It’s much less crowded now than in summer. It’s the perfect time to hit the road and explore some of England’s most beautiful landscapes.

Luxurious yet homely accommodation with everything you could possibly need - and more...

There were so many lovely features to this property that it's hard to know where to begin.

The whole property was extremely clean, well maintained, well-equipped and tastefully decorated.

Features we particularly appreciated were: -

-the flapjack, tea and coffee welcoming us after a long journey

-the fresh flowers and pot plant in the living area

- the view of the fells from the bedroom window.

-large, comfortable bed and luxurious en suite bathroom

-warm, cosy, comfortable and peaceful.

- we could walk into the local village, to Keswick, and to the surrounding countryside without

having to take the car. When we wanted to use the car, though, it was conveniently located

near to the A66.

-all communication with the owners during the booking process was responded to promptly.

Had we wanted to make use of it, there were laundry facilities in the garage shared between the 3 properties. There was plenty of room to hang coats etc away from the living area.

Overall, we highly recommend this accommodation and wouldn't hesitate to book it again, should we return to the area on a future occasion.

A special place

We arrived at Oak Leaf to find a well-appointed holiday home, very clean and full of little extras that made it very homely. The Lake District decided to throw everything weather wise at us, but every evening we returned to our warm and cosy holiday home. We can thoroughly recommend Oak Leaf. It offers a lot and yet it is not too expensive, as some of the properties in and around Keswick can be.

Booking Notes:

A non-refundable deposit of 25% of the rental is payable at the time of booking. The balance, plus a security bond of £75.= is required 60 days before the start of the holiday. In case of non-payment of the balance and security bond, we retain the right to cancel your reservation. For bookings made within 60 days of arrival, full payment of the rental, plus the security bond is required at the time of booking. Your holiday is not confirmed until you have received confirmation from us.
The security bond is not applied to rent and is fully refundable within 7 days of departure, as per the terms and conditions of the booking.

The following refund policy will apply:

Cancellations made
60 or more days before the date of arrival - 100% of rental fees (less £ 100.00 for administration fees)
30 - 59 days before the date of arrival - 50% of rental (less £ 100.00 for administration fees)
15 - 29 days before the date of arrival - 25% of rental (less £ 100.00 for administration fees)
0 - 14 days before the date of arrival – no refunds will be issued

Autumn Leaves - Saturday changeover day.
Acorn - Saturday changeover day.
Oak Leaf - Saturday changeover day.
Arrival after 3.00pm and departure by 10.00am.

Rental prices quoted are based of a maximum 4 people staying in Autumn Leaves and 2 people staying in Acorn or Oak Leaf.

  • 50% refund if canceled at least 30 days before arrival date.
