About the property

Set within attractive gardens, boosting stunning views across the valley

10.000 Years in the making! The Lake District, home to England’s largest natural lake and highest mountain, has joined the likes of the Grand Canyon, the Taj Mahal and Machu Picchu by being awarded Unesco World Heritage status. Come and visit the Lakes for yourself and be inspired by the unique ‘cultural landscape’ which has won this special global recognition.

As winter ends, we begin to look forward to spring in the Lake District

Springtime in Cumbria sees the county turn all shades of green, red & yellow as the valleys & hills come to life. The county comes alive with blossoming trees, dazzling carpets of bluebells and an array of golden daffodils brightening the lake shores. Spring is truly a beautiful time of year to visit.

We have limited availability at Oak Leaf (property ref. 6973281), so with Easter just around the corner why not take a look at our very special offers.

Autumn Leaves

This well-appointed bungalow is beautifully furnished, with the benefit of 2 bathrooms, making it an ideal property for 2 couples. The spacious lounge has 2 comfortable settees, TV, DVD, CD/radio player, with open fire (coal not included). There is a separate dining room with sliding doors opening onto rear patio. The kitchen is well-equipped with double electric oven, gas hob, fridge, freezer, microwave, integrated dishwasher and washing machine. There are 2 wonderful bedrooms. The front bedroom has a king-size bed, whereas the rear bedroom has a super king-size bed, which can be split into twin beds (advice on booking). The main bathroom has a bath, with shower over, hand basin, WC and heated towel rail. There is also a shower room with rainfall shower, hand basin, WC and heated towel rail. The Northern Lakes covers one half of the Lake District National Park. This is the perfect area to choose equally for gentle relaxation or an action packed family adventure holiday with lots of things to do. Nestling on the shores of Derwentwater, the stunningly located town of Keswick, offers a wide array of shops, galleries, pubs and restaurants. Make a visit to the Pencil Museum, take a cruise on the lake and see the latest production at Theatre by the Lake and you will realize why it is called The Heart of The Lakes. Walkers and climbers are spoiled for choice. From the high summits to forest trails and lakeside paths, there are walks to suit all abilities from the doorstep. For those seeking the high adventure, nearby Whinlatter Forest offers exhilarating mountain biking and the high wire adventure GoApe. Combine this with the luxury and flexibility of your own holiday home, Autumn Leaves provides you with the ideal location for your Lakeland holiday.

About Caroline Bonkenburg

My name is Caroline and together with my husband, Hans and our two boys we moved to The Lake District in 1990. We love this beautiful part of England and with the Lakeland fells on our doorstep can indulge in our passion for walking with our little West Highland Terrier, Pemba.

Living locally and being involved in the hospitality industry since 1990, has helped us to develop an understanding of what the many visitors to the area are looking for. We take an active role in looking after Autumn Leaves and are always at hand to answer any questions, and help you make the most of your holiday with us.

Caroline Bonkenburg purchased this bungalow in 2006

Why Caroline Bonkenburg chose Braithwaite

Set in the picturesque hamlet of Braithwaite, this beautifully located property, with its magnificent views towards Skiddaw and Blencathra, offers its guests easy access to all the many tourist attractions in the Northern Lake District. There are three good pubs, serving hearty local food, all within walking distance.

Autumn is officially here, and with it crisp mornings and blustery walks, flurries of leaves and bonfire smoke. The Lakes are especially beautiful in autumn and winter, when the forests blaze with ruddy colour, and the fells are bathed in golden light. It’s much less crowded now than in summer. It’s the perfect time to hit the road and explore some of England’s most beautiful landscapes.

Great place to stay

  • 5 of 5

The cottage was absolutely spotless, really well equipped and maintained, with some great finishing touches.

We had a wonderful week with such a great place to come back to each day, with plenty of space outdoors for the kids to run round.

Excellent bungalow

  • 5 of 5

We stayed in Autumn leaves in 2004 and thought it was beautiful then, but is is even more so now. Spotless, comfortable, well equipped and every need catered for. We were lucky to have lovely warm sunny days so made good use of both patios. Good pubs in the village, excellent food at the Royal Oak and super location for walks from the door or easy access to other locations. Strongly recommend

2 week Easter holiday

  • 5 of 5

A lovely warm welcome greeted us at this very clean, well eqipped and extremely comfortable cottage. Very comfortable bed and perfect location for our walking holiday. No noise from the adjoining properties which were occupied. Royal Oak very good pub. Middle Ruddings good if you are a keen dog fan.

Simply ideal!

  • 5 of 5

We needed a location on one level for two retired couples, close to Keswick for sentimental reasons and with easy access to Penrith station. 'Autumn Leaves' best ticked those boxes, along with ample warmth, most comfortable beds and a spacious kitchen with all that we could possibly need. Two husbands with long experience in the editorial field could spot barely the slightest shortcoming (high praise!) - and even managed a working session while the ladies shopped!

We enjoyed two excellent meals next door at Middle Ruddings, and visits to nearby Thornthwaite Gallery. Most of all, we were able to re-visit many places in the area that three generations of our family have appreciated over the years. Thank you, Caroline, for providing such a welcoming base to return to each day.

Communication worked smoothly during the booking process, while we were at the bungalow and following our return home.

Autumn Leaves

  • 5 of 5

We have thoroughly enjoyed our holiday in Braithwaite. Autumn Leaves bungalow was perfect in every way. Spotlessly clean and the two bathrooms were amazing. The only fault was traffic noise.

Practically Perfect!

  • 5 of 5

Autumn Leaves is that rare beast - the self catering accommodation with everything! It's warm, comfortable, has fabulous views, plentiful hot water and a well equipped kitchen with a bread knife that actually cuts bread!

The walk in shower was perfect for my Venerable Pa who has reached the age when everything on one level is a real bonus. The seating area in the front of the bungalow was the icing on the cake.

I would recommend Autumn Leaves to families, couples and anyone who is looking for fabulous accommodation in the Keswick area.
