About Caroline

The Gray family have enjoyed many holiday's over the years in the Derbyshire Peak District and have always been attracted to Tideswell, due to its central location and it's friendly community. So in November 2016 we noticed this cottage had just come onto the market after being fully renovated. After furnishing it early 2017 and using it for a few weeks, we have decided to share our lovely, cosy cottage with you.

Caroline purchased this cottage in 2016

Why Caroline chose Derbyshire

'The Nook' is located in Tideswell. It has everything you need to give you that warm, comfortable, home from home feel. The original beams have been stripped back and now form a really nice feature through the cottage including the master bedroom. Because it has been recently renovated by a local builder, the heating boiler and radiators are new and very quickly warm the cottage. We have connected the British Gas Hive system to operate both the central heating and lighting in the cottage which is very user friendly once you arrive. If you are bringing children with you there is a large playground nearby or alternatively there are many DVD's to choose to watch either in the lounge or in their bunk room. The TV in the bunk room is also HD ready so you can bring your games station if needed. A cosy lounge with log burner, 2 sofas, TV with a BT You View Box, DVD player & free unlimited Wi-Fi, free Amazon music and "Alexa" await you and with full gas central heating the cottage is really warm. A new cottage style fully fitted kitchen with plenty of crockery, cooking dishes, pans and utensils is ideal if you want to eat in. We have prepared a Sunday roast dinner ourselves to ensure there is everything you need in the kitchen. There is a electric hob and oven, dishwasher, washing machine and 80/20 fridge/freezer along with a microwave. Outside there is an out-house which you have a key for. Ideal for the safe storage of mountain bikes or prams.

What makes this cottage unique

So come and see our newly renovated cottage which has kept the old features and exposed beams which date back to the 1700's. Cuddle up with a glass of vino in front of the lit log burner which has a large glass panel projecting the flames into the room. Or go and experience the local community with many village activities taking place all year round for you to enjoy. You can really feel the village atmosphere each time you go out for a stroll. Of course for the more active, there are many beautiful walks, either along the rivers locally or up Mam Tor onto Kinder Scout. Come and see Derbyshire at it's best!

Gorgeous cottage in an ideal location, in a gorgeous traditional village.

  • 5 of 5

Caroline, the owner, was helpful from the moment we booked, providing local information and walks, and was really flexible with our arrival and departure times.

On arrival the cottage was spotlessly clean and we commented on the lovely smell of the bedding. (We are now swapping wash powders!)

We were blessed with gorgeous sunshine for the four days we were there, but it was a little chilly when we arrived on the Friday evening. The heating is modern, easy to use and soon kicked in. We didn't need it on much as the walls are so thick.

The cottage was well equipped and a perfect size for our family of four with a dog (two teenage boys), but it does sleep 6.

The location was perfect!! The village has everything you could need, and more, but not too much! Butchers, bakers, green grocery, co-op, post office, a couple of nice cafes, couple of chippies and the most important.... a couple of pubs! All literally 2 minutes walk away.

We were there while the food festival was on in the village which was great, gorgeous foods and not expensive as I'd imagined.

I love photography and had early walks each morning down the country lanes, right from the cottage, which were stunning! I saw sunrise, mist, all different birds and hares!

It's also a close drive (or walk) to loads of other lovely places and walks. We walked to Tideswell Dale and back round to Litton, (all without moving the car). Then we drove a short way to Foolow for a gorgeous walk to Great Hucklow, and back to The Bulls Head, Foolow for the nicest Sunday lunch. Followed by a drink at Bretton where you can see for miles.

I don't think there are any negatives, and already thinking when to come back!

Lovely cottage at the heart of the Peaks

  • 5 of 5

Located close to the centre of the village with a wide selection of shops and places to eat and drink. Easily enough room for 6 people; good access to the usual tourist activities plus opportunities for hill walking. An item to improve ? Six more forks to eat cake with :-)

Lovely Cottage with all the modern amenities that you could wish for , without taking away the Chara

  • 4 of 5

We had a lovely time in Tideswell, a lovely little village with some of the friendliest people around. We were never very far away from some beautiful walks with our two Labs and the weather was wonderful.

Caroline reacted immediately to any little issue and offered a solution immediately.

I would recommend this Cottage to anyone who likes the nice Cottage feel but in a wee Village close to walks suitable for any level of walkers.

Thank you Caroline for sharing your home with us and our Two Boys🐶🐶, we had a wonderful time.

Btw we definitely needed a fan in the attic Room, so brought one from home... problem sorted.

Many thanks again Caroline, Liz and Gordon xx

Lovely cottage with all you need.

  • 5 of 5

Lovely homely cottage.

A little hot in top bedroom, but that was due to very hot weather. Traffic can be noisy due to it being on a main busy road.

Couldn't fault the cottage. The neighbours were very friendly, and it was always easy to park.

Would love to come back in Autumn, when it's cooler, and see Autumn colours. Tideswell is a Lovely town with all you need, and a real sense of community.

Thankyou for a lovely stay.

Owner's Response: Thank you for leaving a review. Sorry, the road can be noisy with tractors when the farmers are harvesting. We've invested in a fan now for the top room, so should help cool the room (we're not used to prolonged heatwaves!). So pleased you enjoyed your stay on Tideswell, especially whilst it was the Tideswell Wakes Week. We hope to see you again later in the year. Regards Caroline

A Lovely Cottage in Picturesque Derbyshire Village

  • 5 of 5

Lovely Cottage that has been renovated to a high standard. Our bed was very comfortable and we had a very restful sleep. The kitchen is very well equipped with everything you need for a holiday stay. Tideswell is a very nice village with four pubs all serving food, and it is in a good location as several walks are available from the village. We had a great weekend sharing with friends and can highly recommend this cottage.
