The Gray family have enjoyed many holiday's over the years in the Derbyshire Peak District and have always been attracted to Tideswell, due to its central location and it's friendly community. So in November 2016 we noticed this cottage had just come onto the market after being fully renovated. After furnishing it early 2017 and using it for a few weeks, we have decided to share our lovely, cosy cottage with you.
Caroline purchased this Cottage in 2016
Why Caroline chose Tideswell
'The Nook' is located in Tideswell. It has everything you need to give you that warm, comfortable, home from home feel. The original beams have been stripped back and now form a really nice feature through the cottage including the master bedroom. Because it has been recently renovated by a local builder, the heating boiler and radiators are new and very quickly warm the cottage. We have connected the British Gas Hive system to operate both the central heating and lighting in the cottage which is very user friendly once you arrive. If you are bringing children with you there is a large playground nearby or alternatively there are many DVD's to choose to watch either in the lounge or in their bunk room. The TV in the bunk room is also HD ready so you can bring your games station if needed. A cosy lounge with log burner, 2 sofas, TV with a BT You View Box, DVD player & free unlimited Wi-Fi, free Amazon music and "Alexa" await you and with full gas central heating the cottage is really warm. A new cottage style fully fitted kitchen with plenty of crockery, cooking dishes, pans and utensils is ideal if you want to eat in. We have prepared a Sunday roast dinner ourselves to ensure there is everything you need in the kitchen. There is a electric hob and oven, dishwasher, washing machine and 80/20 fridge/freezer along with a microwave. Outside there is an out-house which you have a key for. Ideal for the safe storage of mountain bikes or prams.
What makes this Cottage unique
So come and see our newly renovated cottage which has kept the old features and exposed beams which date back to the 1700's. Cuddle up with a glass of vino in front of the lit log burner which has a large glass panel projecting the flames into the room. Or go and experience the local community with many village activities taking place all year round for you to enjoy. You can really feel the village atmosphere each time you go out for a stroll. Of course for the more active, there are many beautiful walks, either along the rivers locally or up Mam Tor onto Kinder Scout. Come and see Derbyshire at it's best!

Cosy and warm cottage, beautifully decorated with a Danish hygge feel.
The Nook is simply lovely and pretty central for Some great walks, places to visit and places to eat. Monsal Head ( easy parking for the trail) Bakewell and Chartsworth all within easy driving distances. The Village of Tideswell has its own local bakers, butchers and grocery shops and are lovely to shop in every day. Lots a pretty cafes too selling lovely food. We went to the Cherry Tree daily for boxed salads instead of packed lunches and they were really great.
The cottage itself is beautiful, all the bedroom are spacious and the master bedroom on the top floor has a very romantic feel. The farm house style kitchen is well stocked with utensils etc, immaculate and easy to relax in so if you are not looking to eat out then cooking in the cottage is also a pleasure. There is a log burner in the cosy living room which also has lovely big squishy sofas to curl up into. we didn't use the log burner in June but the central heating was really quick to warm the cottage on one chilly evening.
We took our 2 dogs ( only one dog allowed according to the literature but I didn't realise so best ask if you are taking 2). The cottage has hard floors throughout the ground floor and lovely thick warm carpets everywhere else but as pets are not allowed on the furniture or upstairs there is no pet damage for non dog owners to worry about if they are thinking of booking. Everywhere is spotlessly clean.
If I have to put a negative for balance then the George Inn was a disappointment and we wished we had stayed in or eaten elsewhere.
The owners of the cottage were lovely to correspond with, shared helpful information and accommodated a few tweaks to our booking. The deposit was returned within a couple of days.
Great cottage, great holiday.
Thank you very much for taking the time to write this heart felt review. We have tried to make the cottage as dog friendly as possible but with all the home comforts too. As you say, Tideswell has everything you need and is very centrally located within the Peaks, so all the attractions are in close proximity. Thank you for leaving the cottage clean and tidy and we would welcome you back in the future. Caroline
A Lovely Cottage in Picturesque Derbyshire Village
Lovely Cottage that has been renovated to a high standard. Our bed was very comfortable and we had a very restful sleep. The kitchen is very well equipped with everything you need for a holiday stay. Tideswell is a very nice village with four pubs all serving food, and it is in a good location as several walks are available from the village. We had a great weekend sharing with friends and can highly recommend this cottage.
A Gem !
What a lovely cottage - a real home from home. It had everything possible for a holiday stay and we thoroughly enjoyed our long weekend break. It's perfectly positioned for everything you need in Tideswell and there are some beautiful walks on your doorstep. We wouldn't hesitate to stay again, and would strongly recommend this cottage.
Thank you very much for your lovely comments. We are very pleased you all enjoyed your stay at The Nook and we would welcome you back to stay anytime in the future. Caroline
A cosy cottage in a lovely village
We really enjoyed our stay in The Nook. It had a lovely 'cosy' cottage feel to it but with all the modern conveniences that families with older children will appreciate. We would happily recommend this cottage and location to other couples or families.
Thank you for your review, Amanda. We are very happy you enjoyed your stay at The Nook and would welcome you and your family back to stay in the future. Caroline
Lovely Cottage. Great Village
The cottage is very nicely finished and really well equipped. Tideswell is a great base for exploring the Derbyshire Dales and it not as touristy as some of the other villages in the area. It has just the right amount of pubs, cafe's and shops and even a high end dining option almost next door to the cottage.
Cosy cottage in lovely location
We have just come back from a lovely weeks' holiday. The cottage was very cosy with all amenities. Definitely home from home! Tideswell is a great location. We enjoyed the pastries from the local bakers and a meal at the George Inn. Beautiful walks around Mam Tor, Ladybower Reservoir and Stanage Edge. Castleton, Bakewell and Buxton also worth visiting. Unfortunately we couldn't hire bikes out at the Monsal Trail as their baby seats only do from 12 months +. We'll have to visit again when our baby is older 🙂
