Jackdaw: Two Bed Cottage In A Tranquil Setting And Walking Distance To Fowey

Bedrooms 2
Property type cottage
Minimum Stay 3 - 30 nights

About the property

A beautifully presented two bedroom converted cottage in a quiet idyllic setting with garden and parking close to the historic port of Fowey.

Jackdaw has been lovingly restored by the current owners and offers a tranquil place to stay with the bonus of having on-site parking and private outside space. The Grade II Listed cottage has been furnished and equipped to a very high standard with a funky feel to the design.

There are two bedrooms at the property - upstairs has a King Size bed, and downstairs can be either a Super King or Twin.

About The Area

Fowey is a 15 mins stroll away and the cottage is convenient for a number of breath taking walks where you can enjoy the outstanding views that this area has to offer:

You certainly won’t go hungry while in Fowey! See below for our list of favourite places to eat out in Fowey.

Evening Meals: The Quay House Hotel, The Globe and King of Prussia

Family Friendly: Sams, The Gaeollon and Haveners

Cafes, Lunch & Light Bites: Brown Sugar, Pinky Murphy, The Lifebouy and Pintxo

Tea Rooms: The Dwelling House and The Well House

International: Tai Pan and Sunny Spice

There are several well-loved brand stores in Fowey (Sea Salt, Joules, Fat Face, and Mountain Warehouse) but its real charm lies with the wide range of boutique, unique and independent shops. Spend hours browsing them for clothes, homewares, crafts, glassware, art, antiques, books, seaside knick-knacks, traditional children toys and don't forget the old fashioned sweet shop!

There are also several bakeries and the fabulous Kittows deli. With two local stores, there may be no supermarket in Fowey, but you'll still find everything you need here. And all the major supermarkets will deliver online shopping to Cornerways as well.

In the centre of Fowey there is also a sweet little aquarium, and a local museum – both are worth a peek! Fowey has a 14th church and a 15th century castle fort.

There are a variety of activities on the water, ranging from organised boat trips to canoe hire.

The closest permanent is Ready Money Cove, which has clean sands and is perfect for swimming.

There is also a tidal sea-pool hidden away at the Whitehouse Pier! Within a five-ten minute drive, you can be at Polkerris beach and Par Sands, and within a half hour drive there is Carlyon Bay, Charlestown, Porthpean, Pentewan and Mevagissey.

There are many thousands of miles of fantastic walks in Cornwall. The South West Coastal Path alone winds 630 miles around the county, and The Saints Way is 27 miles from Fowey on the south coast, right across to Padstow on the north coast. The Fowey Hall Walk is much more manageable at 4 miles! Whether you enjoy the sea, woods, rivers, moors or fields, you will not be disappointed with the walks in Cornwall.

The closest major attractions are The Eden Project and The Lost Gardens Of Heligan. They really do have something for everyone and make a most enjoyable day out for child and adults.

For the green-fingered travellers, there are also many other great gardens - in fact, there are 12 Great Gardens of Cornwall!

If you’re looking for somewhere for the kids, check out Camel Creek, Springfields, Dairyland, Kidzworld at Cornucopia, Indoor Active, Newquay Zoo or Porfell Wildlife Centre.A small list of the many hundreds of places for families to visit!

Cornwall also has many wonderful National Trust and English Heritage sites.

Local Transport Links

If you're driving then we have private parking at Jackdaw - a real rarity in Fowey!

The nearest train is Par Station, which has direct services from London Paddington and beyond. It's then a 10 minute taxi trip into Fowey.

The main bus stop in Fowey can be found outside the Safe Harbour pub, and the 24 & 25 First Kernow services stop here. There is also a fabulous bus stop at the end of Lankelly Lane, which has had a make-over by the people of Fowey to give a real enjoyable space while waiting for the bus.

Fowey also has its own town bus service which picks up from outside the church and runs to various locations on request.

The closest airport is Newquay, which is around 30 minute away by car.

We are dog friendly here at Jackdaw and are happy to welcome furry friends at a rate of £30 per trip.

Our gardens border a sheep farm so dogs must be kept under control at all times.

We ask that they are not allowed to jump onto furniture, and we have a large rug in the lounge which gets taken when pets are staying.

About Fowey Homes Ltd

My name is Jane Flowerdew, I am a local Estate Agent based in Fowey and manage a number of holiday properties on behalf of my clients. My office is in the town centre and I am always on hand if you need anything during your stay!

Amanda and Guy fell in love with Fowey and relocated here from Sussex. They have lovingly restored the whole of Hill Hay Farm, and live next door to Jackdaw in the main house.

Why Fowey Homes Ltd chose Fowey

Jackdaw has been recently refurbished to an excellent standard and is simply beautiful. The owners have paid real attention to detail and there are many fun and funky finishing touches. It retains the charm and feel of a Cornish barn, but with all the essential mod cons needed in a home away from home!

What makes this cottage unique

Jackdaw has lots of room for parking - a real rarity in Fowey! It is walking distance to the town centre and has a real Cornish countryside feel due to its rural location.

The Linney is a wonderful communal space and would be perfect for relaxing with the doors open on a summer evening, or snuggled up inside during the winter months.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Can't really fault this rental. Guy and Mandy have clearly put in a lot of time effort and money to making it top end, are very welcoming and unobtrusive, and we had a great stay. I would thoroughly recommend it.

Beautiful well appointed cottage

  • 4 of 5

This is a lovely cottage in a quiet location. There is parking and a huge pretty garden. The cottage is V comfortable with high quality fixtures, a coffee machine, good quality towels, duvets and pillows, plus a wood burner.

Guy and Amanda were friendly, relaxed and helpful. About a 15 min walk to the centre of Fowey, 20 mins back as slightly uphill. V much recommend.

Great cottage in great location

  • 5 of 5

This cottage was absolutley fantastic. The gardens were incredible and the interior was of the highest quality. The cottage itself had all you would require and more on holiday and was just like a home form home. A 15 minute walk into the town of Fowey and what a delight. This picturesque town is quintessential Cornwall - narrow streets, fishing boats, pasties and cream teas! If you want a high quality property in a first class location, Jackdaw Cottage is for you!

Stunning location, clean, well maintained

  • 5 of 5

Family batten really put jackdaw to the test with 3 lively sausage dogs and 3 lively boys! We found the accommodation had plenty of space for all of us with a good sized and well stocked kitchen, highly maintained and extensive gardens and comfortable beds. The decor opulent and welcoming made us feel right at home. There is plenty of parking right by the accommodation making off loading of luggage easy. Guy and Mandy were very helpful with suggestions of places to walk, eat and drink. We will defiantly be back to fowey and to jackdaw!!
