Situated in the heart of the beautiful and unspoilt Limousin region of France, our family friendly holiday gite offers the discerning visitor a high standard of accommodation and provides an ideal base from which to explore the charm and beauty of this part of France. Le Moulin de Chez Brandy is a small estate set in 15 acres of rolling parkland with woodland walks, picnic areas and a private fishing lake. The main house is a renovated 1860's watermill and is where we live. Our gites are located in a separate single story building which allows guests complete privacy during their holiday but we offer help and advice at any time should it be required. We have two gites each of which has two bedrooms, and we can also provide sofa beds and cots if required. The area is a wildlife paradise with some 45 species of birds identified to date, and butterflies abound.
The 15th century château town of Rochechouart is just a 10 minute drive away and has a range of restaurants and shops. It is the centre of what is known as the Meteroite region where some 200 million years ago a meteorite of 1.5km diameter and weighing some 6 billion tons struck the earth. There is a museum in the centre of the town with samples of rock, photos and videos, and it is the only museum of its kind in France.
At Le Moulin, we offer activities for the family including indoor and outdoor games areas with table tennis, darts, and board games, and there are bikes to hire. Both gites have a selection of DVD's and books for the use of guests.
Our 1.5 acre fishing lake is available for use by arrangement, and is stocked with carp and silver fish (see our website for further details). We have some items of tackle for use by guests and there is a secure storage area for fishing tackle with a freezer for bait.

About Steve Fox
My wife and I had been taking gite holidays in France for a number of years in various locations before deciding to take early retirement in the UK and "follow our dream" of setting up and running a gite business at a property that also had a fishing lake and a heated swimming pool. We wanted to offer accommodation which incorporated all the best features from our previous holidays, aiming primarily at families.
Steve Fox purchased this Cottage in 2014
Why Steve Fox chose Vayres
We wanted a property that was sufficiently far south to benefit from the (usually) reliable weather but also easily accessible from UK airports and drivable in a single day from the channel ports. We fell in love with Le Moulin de Chez Brandy on our first viewing and felt that it ticked all the right boxes being in a quiet location but only a few minutes from the nearest villages. Whether it is historic sites, bars & restaurants, river & lakes, everything is available for the complete holiday.
What makes this Cottage unique
Guests appreciate the spacious and well equipped accommodation and the tranquil countryside setting together with the wildlife and the lake. The gites are separate from the owners house so that families can enjoy their holiday in their own way but with our full support and help whenever required.

Our one and a half acre lake is available for guests to fish free of charge. Last year the lake was drained and desilted and it now completely meets local regulations. We have a new 30 year licence in place, and the lake has been restocked with carp, bream tench and silver fish. We can offer information and tuition for guests who would like to learn to fish, and we can provide all the necessary tackle. Those guests wishing to bring their own tackle are welcome and our secure storage area will protect these valuable items! Our website contains further details of the lake and a set of rules. There are fishing tackle stores in St Junien and Limoges and they stock a wide range of items plus bait. Coast/Beach: The Atlantic coast at Royan is a 2 hour drive West Travel: Limoges airport is a 40 minute drive from Rochechouart, and is served by Ryanair and Flybe flights from Stansted, Southampton, Liverpool, Newcastle and Bristol. Car hire facilities are located directly opposite the terminal in a dedicated car rental area. The channel ports are approx. seven and a half hours drive, and Le Moulin can be found on Google Maps. If you are using sat nav, our postcode is 87600 Vayres, and we are 8km south of Rochechouart on the D675. Distances: Our nearest village is Vayres which is 2km., and Rochechouart is 8km. The city of Limoges which is famous for its porcelain, medieval enamels and oak brandy casks is a 40min drive. An unmissable experience is the martyr's village of Oradour sur Glane which is 35mins North. Further Details: In Rochechouart you will find banks with cash machines, a small supermarket, boulangeries, butchers, a post office and pharmacy. The two hotels both have restaurants, and locally are several other good value auberges. Fishing is also available at the Meteorite lake, which is stocked with carp and trout and night fishing is possible (permit required, and available locally). The Haute Vienne has more than 2500km of marked and maintained trails for heritage lovers, nature and hikers and organised walks can also be booked locally. There are a wealth of cycle routes to explore the local landscape with its rivers, lakes and beautiful villages, and for the more energetic, why not try the mountain bike trails ranging from the easiest level (green) to the most difficult (black). Locally are several leisure lakes where you can hire a canoe, dinghy or windsurfer, or just take it easy in a pedaloo. Many of the lakes are safe for swimming and some have lifeguards on duty. River canoeing is available at several locations on the Vienne, and the Dordogne can be reached in under two hours. For an exciting day out with the children, try the Adventure Park at Massignac which has bungee jumps, zip wires and tree climbing plus games, sports and golf.
