Our holiday at Sandy Bottom May 17
We had an enjoyable week staying at Sandy Bottom. The apartment has been recently built and is furnished to a high standard. It has good sea views. The accommodation has two double bedrooms, so may not be suitable for a family of four and the size of the property ideally suits a couple with one bathroom and no ensuite. The stairs is wooden and bends round and would not suit older people. We were grateful for the food supplies we found on entry such as bread, butter, milk, biscuits and a bottle of wine.
The location suited us as it was close to the S W Coastal Path, which we spent most of the week walking. The apartment is in a quiet village, though there was loud building noise when we stayed as there are similar apartments being constructed next door. The owner did warn us about the noise but it was worse than expected as foundations were still be excavated. She did compensate us for the disturbance.
There is a short walk to the lovely Whitsand Bay Hotel which does reasonable priced meals and has a cosy bar. A 10 minute walk up a hill by road takes you to Crafthole and the village pub called the Finnygook which servers good pub food and our first meal on arrival was a lovely Sunday lunch. There is a nice beach nearby and an excellent beach café. There is also a golf course close to the apartment.
You need a car to get around, though there are buses from Plymouth that stop at Crafthole. The Torpoint ferry is 20 minutes away by car and that takes you over to Plymouth. Driving the other way takes you to the scenic villages of Looe and Polperro.
We had an enjoyable stay at Sandy Bottom and I would recommend to couples or small families who want a holiday in a quiet location (once the building has finished).
Thank you for the feedback.
As of this August, the foundations have been laid & the noise is now greatly reduced.
As stated in the comments, we were transparent about the building work when we were contacted about the property.
The property is advertised as having two double bedrooms & one bathroom. We have had several families & friends stay over, with no issue.
The property has space in the dinning room, lounge & outside patio area to accommodate 4 people.
We have significantly reduced the price this year, to compensate for the building work.
This beautiful house is an absolute gem with the added bonus of being positioned in a stunning and unspoilt location. On arrival, the house was immaculate and, after a long drive, it was very welcoming to have tea, coffee, biscuits, fresh milk, bread and butter left for us. The interior is of excellent quality and the house is fully equipped with everything you could possibly need to relax and enjoy the breath-taking sea views over Portwrinkle from inside the property or within the garden. There were lovely personal touches too within the house of two vertical photos of the local beach/sea that had been displayed on glass frames which was a nice touch. It was tastefully furnished with home-to-home comforts. Windows had spectacular sea views and there were lots of lovely coastal walks, unspoilt and uncrowded beaches, and local pubs serving excellent food! My husband and I are definitely hoping to stay again.
Thank you for our feedback Caroline. I am glad you enjoyed your stay.
