2 weeks of sun!
Lovely location, the appartment was spotless. Warm welcome by Carol, who made sure all through our stay that everything was fine. Carol was also of great help when organizing the journey to Crete. Well situated to visit Crete. The kids loved the swimming pool.
The owner was very well organised in arrangements for our stay, and we received a warm welcome to this delightful property. The warmth, professionalism and generosity of the owners sets a very high standard ,which in our experience, few owners have matched.
The apartment is set in the middle of olive groves with extensive views over the countryside and towards the sea in one direction and the distant mountains in the other. We enjoyed evening meals on the roof - watching the sunset and the moon rise.
It offers a good base to explore the north coast and interior with some very attractive countryside well away from the developments which straggle the coast. Rethymno and the beaches are only a short drive away, but we experienced a sense of relief whenever we returned to the comfort and serenity of Lautra. We tended to travel uphill into the solitude and splendour of the mountains which were only a few minutes drive away.
With a small terrace at the front door, and a large roof terrace, as well as a pleasant grassed area around a superb pool, there was plenty of places to relax outside. It was quiet when we stayed with only one other apartment occupied, so we had the pool to ourselves.Early May was delightful with spring flowers and warm sunshine - and a refreshing dip was much appreciated after some drives into those spectacular mountains.
The apartment was meticulously clean, well designed and with very good facilities. We really appreciated the very generous gesture of the local produce which the host provided upon our arrival. I would wholeheartedly recommend this property- as long as you leave a space for us to return!!
Sunshine, Peace and Quiet
A peaceful and relaxing holiday. From the start, Carol and Fred efficiently handled the booking with regular email contact providing all the necessary details on how to arrive safely at the Olive Grove Villa on the hillside. Arriving late afternoon, Carol was there to meet and greet us and provide us with a quick tour of the property. Providing us with some essentials; bread, milk, Greek yoghurt and Feta Cheese (of course), was a much appreciated personal touch to get our holiday off on the right note. The villa provided us with a very peaceful and relaxing base to enjoy the sunshine in the wonderful setting of the Cretan countryside. The only sounds to disturb the peace were the background tinkles of the bells around the necks of the goats in the surrounding fields. The villa was also perfectly located for exploring the island, with Chania, Heraklion, Rethymnon and the South of Crete (and lots more in between) all quickly and easily visited by car. In summary, the Olive Grove Villa provided us with all we needed for an excellent Easter break in Crete and we would recommend this property without hesitation and look forward to returning in the future. Thanks Carol and Fred!

Excellent Villa, Excellent holiday
I think all the superlatives have already been written about number 4 (and number 2) and it really is a superb villa and the pool is excellent (long enough to have a good swim).
We were two couples (60+) and stayed for 2 weeks. There was more than enough room for us all without tripping over each other, plenty of storage space and a lot of outside space with the large roof terrace and small patio by the front door. As mentioned in the previous review one of the big bonuses of the villa was the loo. I hate to think what it would have been like with a Greek type!
On the first morning there Carol gave us a run down on the villa, places to visit etc. and most importantly what to do in an emergency (medical or otherwise) which is basically to contact her first. This was most reassuring when it is difficult to the read road names let alone try and find or speak to a doctor. The only emergency I had was that I had forgotten an electrical adapter and I could not remember how to use the washing machine but with Carol just around the corner she soon solved the problems.
There are plenty of restaurants nearby. Our favourite was the Chovoli about a mile up the hill. 4 starters and mains and a litre of reasonable house wine was 50 to 60 Euros and they also provide bread, water, Raki and a simple Greek yoghurt sweet. Alexandos down the hill just under the E75 was also good. The pizzaria next door was a bit disappointing with pre-made bases rather than freshly baked. The Friday Greek evening with dancing, music and a good meal at the museum/taverna in Astari is well worth going to even if you do get roped in to a dance. There was a large group of locals celebrating a birthday there on the Friday we went so it is not just for tourists.
As recommended a car is necessary but I would suggest one not too wide as there is a tight bend onto the road in front of the villas. We had a Clio which was okay.
Great weather, great food, great accommodation and a great area - perfect.
peace and tranquility
This is a great little villa with plenty of outside space from the front patio area to the spacious roof terrace. The villa was clean and tidy and very well equipped even had a proper loo! a real bonus in Greece! It is out of the hustle and bustle of Rethymno but only a few minutes drive from town so this made it ideal for us so quiet at night so a good night's sleep is guaranteed. There are several tavernas within a couple if minutes drive and some pleasant beaches only ten minutes away. The pool area is lovely set amongst the olive groves with lots of shade and plenty of sunbeds. The owner Carol is really nice and very helpful her guide to the area which is in the villa is one of the best I have come across. We had a great holiday here and would certainly recommend it to friends, I'm sure we will be back in the future.
Wonderfully relaxing place to holiday.
A very clean and comfortable, modern and well laid out villa in a quiet village but not too far from the shops, restaurants or the beach by car. The pool was excellent - ideal for kids. The owner was very friendly and helpful and we really appreciated the Greek, cheese yogurt and raki on our arrival. Thanks for a very relaxing holiday! We'd definitely recommend it.
Situated in Loutra, the villa is the ideal place to come home to after a day of sightseeing!
