The cottage at La Grondinière is a renovated barn and farmhouse, converted as one, situated in asmall, friendly, quiet hamlet. The property is in the heart of the Vendean countryside and has the advantage of being only 16 miles from the beautiful sandy beaches. There is a lake with boating and bathing three miles away.
Motoring time is approximately one hour from Nantes, one and a half hours from La Rochelle, 3 hours from St Malo, 4 hours from Caen. Changeover day is Saturday (flexible out of season.)
Janty and Ian have lived here since 1990, only 2 miles from La Grondinière, should you need them and will happily advise you on places to visits and various activities to suit your particular tastes. They also rent rooms (which can be rented as an apartment) at the farm 2 miles away and have more accommodation in the vicinity.
The house is all on ground level and consists of: 1 double room (with bed 140 x 190 cm), 1 twin room (2 beds 90 x 190 cm which can make one 180 x 190 cm bed if pushed together) with ensuite bath/shower room, extra shower room, a large, well-equipped kitchen/dining room, a lounge with satellite television, DVD/CD/radio player, 2 folding beds. It is all accessible by people with reduced mobility with only the odd step to negotiate, an ideal size for 4 people, yet not too big for two people either.
The well-equipped kitchen has a cooker with 3 gas and one electric plates and electric grill/oven, fridge/freezer, microwave, dishwasher, washing machine, chopper/blender, kettle, electric coffee maker, toaster, iron and hoover.
The bedroom wing is carpeted. The duvets (1 x 200 x 200 cm, 4 x 135 x 200 cm), mattress protectors, rectangular and some square foam pillows with protectors, some blankets, are provided, but you will need to bring beach towels and also (or hire from the owners) sheets, duvet covers, pillow
cases, and bath towels. Each room has at least one electric radiator. Electricity (for heating) is extra (over and above the first 56 units/week included in the price.) WIFI from mid May to end Sept only.
The garden is large and well-maintained and there are lovely views over the countryside from the terrace which faces south. There is plenty of shade for those hot days, sun loungers, table and chairs for ‘al fresco’ meals on balmy evenings, a large parasol and a barbecue. A good sized grassed area is suitable for ball games and there is a rotary clothes drier. Very little traffic passes the back of the house and only one window looks north.
The garden is fenced from the road. A shallow ditch runs through the middle of the garden which may flow after excessive rain, mainly during the winter months, but is usually dry. There is a bicycle shed.
Places to Visit
In the cottage is a booklet giving suggestions for outings, and various leaflets. The large town of Challans, 12 miles away, has a large market on Tuesday morning, with a superb food hall also open on Friday and Saturday mornings. The sea and magnificent sandy beaches both north and south of St Gilles Croix de Vie are about 25 mins. drive away. The Noirmoutier island is very interesting and can be approached by a bridge or across
a causeway at low tide, and is noted for its shellfish, salt and potatoes.
The Puy du Fou Park (approx. 1 hour’s drive) is definitely worth a visit and ideal for children too. It includes impressive displays - gallo-roman, predator birds, a fort attack in the year 1000 – amongst much else to see. At weekends from June to September (but you need to prebook in order to get seats) there is a spectacular, renowned sound and light show enacting episodes in the turbulent history of the Vendee with 600 local actors
(most volunteers), horses, boats, lasers, fireworks, and cannons.

Lovely peaceful location and great accommodation
We had a short stay and were very happy with all the facilities. Our hosts were more than helpful and it was great to meet them on our arrival. We were told how everything worked and they were available to answer any concerns. The location is beautifully rural on a no through road, traffic was almost non-existent. Although rural there are very good road links making places of interest and the coastline easily accessible. We loved our stay and can highly recommend the house and area.
Thanks very much, Paul, and for leaving everything tickety-boo on your departure. It was good to meet you both. All the best. Ian and Janty Pike.
Sympathique et tres propre
Tres bon séjour. Nous avons eu un peu froid car la météo n était pas au rendez vous. Sinon les photos sont conformes à la description. Nous conseillons cette location
