About Colin Thompson

Colin is a Man of Kent. he was born in Broad Oak and went to school in Canterbury. He now lives in the English West Midlands with Partner Margaret and their ancient Cocker Spaniel Barney. He is an active member of the Ironbridge Lions club and is involved with local green space organisations including the Friends of Telford Town Park. Colin Thompson purchased this house in 2008

Why Colin Thompson chose Canterbury

Colin was born in the house which stood on the site of Kath's Cottage and grew up there with his 4 siblings. Their mother, Kathleen, lived in the village until her death in 2014 at the age of 101. Although he now lives in Shropshire, Colin is proud of his Kentish roots and remains very close to the very large family in the Canterbury area. He and Margaret visit very regularly and bought the house to provide a comfortable base for those visits, renaming it, at the suggestion of the family, in honour of their mother.

What makes this house unique

Kath's Cottage is ideally situated for visitors to this fascinating part of South East England. It provides comfortable accommodation in a quiet, village environment with very easy access to the historic city of Canterbury and to the Kent coastal towns including Whitstable, Herne Bay, Broadstairs, Ramsgate and Folkestone. London is less than an hour away by fast train from Canterbury and Paris is only two hours by Eurostar from Ashford. But those looking for a quiet country holiday will enjoy great meals at the village pub and will love the walks through apple orchards and ancient woodlands.

A lovely cottage with beautiful walks straight from the doorstep. Beautiful secure garden was perfect for the dog and our self's. Our favourite place to sit was the conservatory looking out onto the pretty plants and wildlife. Orchards leading into the Blean woods was very near and a lovely walk. Shop and pub was both near by. Hern bay is close by as well. Plenty to do and cottage is perfect for relaxing in. We enjoyed the holiday very much and would return to kaths cottage again. Owner provided very good information and communication was great. Beautiful cottage in a friendly area and beautiful scenery. Very pleased.

Owner's Response: Thanks for your comments Emma. So pleased that you enjoyed your stay in the cottage and particularly pleased that you enjoyed the walks. The countryside around the cottage is just beautiful - it was our playground when we were young so I know it well and I love it still. Do come back again at some time - you will be most welcome.

Family style

  • 5 of 5

As a family we are looking for a house where we can feel at home!! And this property did just that!! Lovely place, kitchen well equipped, nice garden so it has everything! Canterbury, ASDA supermarket, petrol station within 5 min drive. Pub, the Golden Lion, just across the street. Parking was a bit tricky as is a steep ramp towards the garage.

So, if is to return to Canterbury I'll definetly choose this place again!

Thanks Collin!

very homely and clean, very easy to get buses and shop local. Very easy to explore all kent

  • 5 of 5

We all very much enjoyed the holiday and stay at Kath's Cottage. We found it very central for exploring Kent and visited Hern bay, Whitstable, Margate, Ramsgate, Folkestone, Sandwich, Hythe, Dover and of course Canterbury and the Cathedral. Every place was easily accessible by Bus which we really enjoy and the bus stop was only a matter of a short walk. The cottage was very well equipped with all we needed and very comfortable and clean. It was a small pity the local pub (50 yards away) only served evening meals on Friday, Sat and Sunday, but there were other options and we enjoyed the walk to them. The village is very neat and tidy but the road outside the cottage was a little busy first thing in the morning and then at tea time but not over the top. Would happily recommend to any family of 4 or as in our case two couples. Great stay.
