About the property

Holiday cottage in the centre of Lewes offering space for up to 6 adults.

The Lewes Town House was built over two hundred years ago and retains much of its original character. It is a typical Lewes house, cosy, compact and full of quirky detail.

As you enter the front door, the well appointed kitchen leads off from the charming hallway. Everything you need; cooking utensils, oven/hob, microwave, fridge, dishwasher, dining table, washing machine/dryer, lots of work surface and cupboards full of crockery, glassware, pots and pans and that all important coffee pot.

Upstairs on the first floor is the living room, comfy sofas, TV/DVD, sound system, games, books, restful lighting, lovely view to the Downs. Next door is bedroom one, a small double with walk in wardrobe. All bedrooms have cotton sheets, plump duvets and pillows, decent mirrors, restful lighting.

This floor also has a WC with handbasin.

On the second floor are bedrooms two and three. Bedroom two is the largest and bedroom three is compact and cosy.

The bathroom on the second floor has a good shower, deep bathtub, heated handrail, washbasin and WC.

The house is close to the lovely Grange Gardens where you will find peaceful places to sit and enjoy the stunning flower planting and a little art gallery.

The railway station is two minutes away and trains run into the centre of Brighton every ten minutes and into London every half-hour. Public transport is excellent, buses run all along the South Coast and to delightful Georgian Tunbridge Wells.

Great location, amenities and coffee

The property is perfectly located to explore Lewes (2 minutes' walk from the high street) and the whole region (5 minutes' walk from train station). It was immaculately clean, well equipped and very comfortable for us as a 5-person group. The coffee shop on the corner is excellent, by the way! I'd definitely hope to stay here next time we come to this area.

Great central Lewes location to stay.

Beautiful location but no parking that close to the property. For six adults it was a squeeze and one of the double beds was v small.TV not working needs new stereo to accept iPod/phone etc.

Kitchen contents a little tired. Needs some care and attention. Tom owner v pleasant.

Brilliantly located house in wonderful Lewes

My wife and I stayed a week here in August 2018. We were very familiar with the house as we had stayed for three months in it during 2015 under the previous owners. The ground floor consists only of a small kitchen and dining area and micro-hall leading to a steep set of stairs up to the first floor. (The rest of the ground floor corner of the building is the Ground cafe and serves good coffee. You will hear music and the coffee grounds being tapped out during the day when the cafe is running!). First floor is the living room, nice and sunny, a loo and bedroom. Top floor is the main bedroom, third bedroom and bathroom (with good shower). In theory the beds could accommodate six people, but the dining area is not big enough for this, other than a one off meal. The house was fine for two, with max four for a long stay. The outside walls need attention, but the rather more important interior decoration is good. Some aspects of the kitchen could do with updating (and a better mattress in the main bedroom - definitely the same one from three years ago) - would also benefit the place . There were a number of minor items missing but the owner Thomas responded quickly and organised these to be available. We also thought that more basic (e.g. washing etc) supplies should have been available. Some aspects of the kitchen cleaning could have been better. Thomas has only recently acquired the property and my understanding is that he has a programme of improvement. From our dealings with him, text and phone only as he was away during our stay, he was very helpful, and evidently wants to ensure that guests are happy for their stay. This house is in a superb position in the middle of Lewes, close to station and shops. Recommended.

cosy period townhouse

We enjoyed our stay. The owner was helpful in meeting us when we arrived. The house is in a central location, great for walking around Lewes. There's some noise early morning from cafe downstairs & late at night from local pub, but that's to be expected from central location. We would return!
