A beautifully restored farmhouse in 5 acres of land, with stunning views of the mountains and valleys. The interior combines traditional and contemporary features to great effect and outside there are covered terraces for eating and relaxing, a 10m x 5m swimming pool and olive trees, vines, fruit and nut trees and a small river borders the land. The house has recently undergone extensive restoration work and offers comfortable accommodation in a secluded setting.

I am a property developer/builder from Brighton and decided to fulfil a long-held ambition to own a property in the sun - having visited a number of regions in Italy, I decided on Abruzzo, which I felt was more authentic and less commercialised than many areas, offered value for money, stunning scenery, mountains, beaches, wonderful food and wine and friendly, helpful locals. Having decided on the region, I then set about finding the right property, a process which took two years and many visits, before I finally found the house which ticked all the boxes - beautiful setting with amazing views, secluded but not isolated, easy access to airports, motorways etc and plenty of places of interest to visit.
Mike Hawksworth purchased this farmhouse in 2005
On first visiting La Casa Felice, I was struck by the views of the Gran Sasso mountain range and the beautiful hills and valleys which roll towards the Adriatic coast. The house itself needed total restoration, but the location was perfect. Not overlooked, it offers seclusion, yet is within walking distance of restaurants, a bar and bakery in Villa Cupoli and a short drive (5 mins) to the mediaeval town of Farindola, with stores, bars, restaurants, bank, petrol station etc. The market town of Penne, is only 15 mins by car and has a number of large supermarkets, and the facilities you would associate with a sizeable town.
Dear Mike, Thank you for 2 wonderful weeks! The house itself and everything in and around is done with love and taste. Thank you for your library - the Dalai Lama and Eckhart Tolle really came in time!! Now I leave this place in clam and peaceful mind. It was surprising to find pictures from the Hermitage in St Petersburg on the walls - if you decide to visit St Petersburg again, please call me. The local restaurants are run by friendly, wonderful people and offer delicious food and wine. Greetings to Marco who is always happy to help. My daughter, Taisia, enjoyed swimming in the pool and looking after the garden.
Wow! What a fabulous find! We are not long back from a wonderful week at La Casa Felice and would absolutely recommend this most beautiful farmhouse.
We always choose holiday rentals for the surroundings and views, and this one absolutely blew us away.
We have 3 children so the pool and wifi connection were a real hit! The house was incredibly well furnished with everything that we needed throughout our stay. It was beautifully clean throughout and the gardens were immaculate and extremely well tended.
We had the most relaxing week and spent a lot of time chilling out by the pool and BBQ-ing. We also had delicious locally produced cuisine brought to the house on 2 evenings.
We hope very, very much to return and would urge anyone considering this property just to go ahead and BOOK IT!
We had an excellent level of communication from the owner who was incredibly helpful and forthcoming with any questions that we had.
A 5 * find!
We had a great time, Maurology was very welcoming and spoke good English and was very helpful. We found the cottage I pristine condition and so quiet and relaxing. The pool was fantastic and the children spent everyday in it. The surrounding area is beautiful and the mountains and the villages were stunning. We wound recommend this place to anybody who wants to get away from the hustle and bussel of life and win down
What a beautiful place in such a stunning setting. We've been visiting Abruzzo one week (should have been three), relaxing by the pool, swimming in the Adriatic, visiting Gran Sasso, enjoying fantastic food and a lot more. The kids loved the place and the pool and - not to forget - the owners of the local bakery.
The locals are extremely friendly and helpful, our kids felt so welcome everywhere. Thanks to Mauro and Monia for making us a deilicious Italian dinner (actually a whole buffet), providing us with their own olive oil and by beeing so proud of Abruzzo. We hope to return another year!
As already mentioned by the other visitors. We loved as well the beauty and tranquility of the location, the well appointed facilities and fantastic pool, despite it was only 20°C. We enjoyed the Italian food in the local restaurants and visited wonderful places of scenic and historic interest.
For a relaxing holiday away from phones and the internet, we can really recommend it.
We love the beauty and tranquility of the location, the well appointed facilities and fantastic pool. There are many good restaurants locally and wonderful places of scenic and historic interest.
Mike, the owner, is extremely helpful, with good local knowledge which helps you to get the most out of your stay. Very highly recommended.
Very nice house. The interior finishings were excellent. 3 good size bedrooms with good beds (2 queen rooms and a room with 3 seperate beds) , 2 bathrooms with everything you could need. The kitchen is the masterpiece with a convenient window to the dining area on the veranda (which provides excellent lounging). The pool is large, with roman stairs and a shallow and deep (>2m) part.
The location is quite secluded with lots of privacy. Luckily the bakery is around the corner, supermarket is 15 mins away (Penne).
As the house is located near the mountains, the wather can be influenced by that. The sea is 45mins away (excellent beaches). Enough restaurants locally and further away available.
The house is situated in a secluded and private position on the edge of the village of Villa Cupoli, where you will find three restaurants, a bar with small store and the village bakery, where fresh bread baked in a traditional wood-burning oven is available six days a week. A little further afield ( 5 minutes by car ) the small town of Farindola has 2 small supermarkets, butcher, fruit and veg shop aswell as bars and restaurants, bank and post office and a weekly market in the main square. It is also home to the offices and museum of the beautiful Gran Sasso National Park. Marked trails provide the opportunity for walks, mountain biking or horse-riding. The ski resort at Campo Imperatore is open year round and the traditional villages in the National Park are renowned throughout Italy.
A 40 minute drive takes you to the coast and the beautiful sandy beaches of the Adriatic and the Water Park at Onda Blu is a big favourite with the kids.
