Atholl Cottage on Nairn Links: Sea view from all rooms

Minimum Stay 3 - 4 nights

About the property

Traditional three-bedroom cottage in historic seaside resort town

Traditional three-bedroomed cottage, with views from all rooms across the Nairn Links parkland to the dunes and award-winning beach beyond. The cottage was built around 1900, and has an "upside-down" configuration, with bedrooms downstairs and living space upstairs to maximise the benefit of the spectacular views across the Moray Firth to the Black Isle, Sutors of Cromarty and Easter Ross.

Downstairs, the master bedroom has a king-size bed, a dressing room and an en-suite shower room. The second bedroom has a double bed and built-in wardrobes. The third bedroom has bunk beds. The ground floor is completed by the main bathroom, which has a bath with a shower over it. All bedrooms have windows looking out to the sea.

Upstairs, the lounge has windows on two sides, with views North to the sea and West towards the famous Nairn bandstand and the spacious Nairn Links parklands. The dining room is at the other end of the cottage, has a view to the sea and has patio doors out to a terrace that looks over a small courtyard to the bandstand. The kitchen is between the dining room and the lounge and also has a view to the sea. The kitchen is equipped with a gas hob, electric oven, dishwasher, fridge and freezer.

The cottage has parkland on two sides but has no garden of its own. There is a small courtyard outside the main door, enclosed by cast iron gates. There is parking available on the street to the side and to the front of the cottage. These streets are very quiet, as they are used for local access only.

For one week per year, in the middle of August, the area is transformed for the Nairn Highland Games, which has been running since 1869. For this week, the parkland surrounding the cottage hosts the games and a travelling funfair.

Atholl Cottage on Nairn Links: Sea view from all rooms
average rating of 5.0 based on 9 reviews

Spent four nights here at the end of August and loved the property.

  • 5 of 5

The house was very clean and the situation looking over the beach was perfect. We liked the fact that the public rooms were upstairs, all with a stunning view. Bedroom with the bunk beds made it pretty cramped for two adults, but we knew that when we booked, so not a complaint. Everything else, lounge, kitchen and dining room, were perfect for six adults. Would be perfect for two kids with mum and dad and grandparents, or even two couples rather than three. The kitchen was well stocked with crockery, cutlery and a few food items to get us started. We wouldn't hesitate to use it again. Thanks to host Gordon who met us when we arrived and showed us round.

Fantastic Long Weekend

  • 5 of 5

We had a fantastic long weekend stay at Atholl Cottage for a golfing break in July. The property is superbly situated - quiet, with great views but walking distance to everything you need. The layout is superb and it is so well equipped with absolutely everything you could think off including a great kitchen and lovely tea and coffee making facilities. Gordon and Carmel were perfect hosts and we'd have no hesitation recommending a stay at Atholl Cottage.

Great property.

  • 5 of 5

We had a lovely stay in Gordon and Carmel's cottage. It is furnished to a high standard and had everything we needed. There are maps and leaflets about the area.

The views are spectacular from the windows and the beach and restaurants are very close by. It is also a very peaceful cottage. There are lots of places to go and great scenery on the way there and further north. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in the cottage and Gordon and Carmel were very helpful.

Fantastic location and accommodation

  • 5 of 5

The house is situated at the popular Nairn beach and a fantastic location for discovering the highlands. The house is really great and the owners made a massive effort to make us feel very welcome. This is the perfect holiday destination and accommodation and the kids loved it, too. Thank you! We hope to be back.

Clean, warm and comfortable with superb views. What more could you ask for?

  • 5 of 5

This is a top level rental property. We were met at the cottage by our host Carmel who gave us the guided tour. Everything works and the beds are very comfortable..big plus! No coin meters or any of that nonsense. The cottage is perfectly situated on the Links with the seafront 50 metres away. Excellent cafés, bars and restaurants an easy walk from the doorstep. Carmel told us of good walks and cycle paths near Nairn. Superb location for young families with links, putting green, play park with cafe and swimming pool all within 10 minute walk. We had a super holiday.

About Gordon Duncan

I grew up about 20 miles from Nairn, then moved away. I spent about 25 years working in engineering around the world, including France, Netherlands, Germany, Pakistan, Australia and US. I recently moved back to the area and I now live in Nairn, about a mile away from Atholl Cottage. I love the outdoors, and I'm currently enjoying all this area has to offer, with excellent beaches and forests on my doorstep, and Cairngorms national park less than half an hour away.

Gordon Duncan purchased this cottage in 2017

Why Gordon Duncan chose Nairn

I'd been looking for a holiday cottage in Nairn for some time, and when Atholl Cottage came up, I loved it immediately. The cottage has old-world charm, built around 1900 as part of the historic Fishertown area of Nairn. It was completely refurbished in 2000-2001, so benfits from a modern heating system double glazing and insulation, perfect for those cooler nights.

What makes this cottage unique

The cottage is in a great spot, with sea views from every window. It's on a very quiet street, but it is also very close to the centre of town, with coffe shops, bars and restaurants less than 10 minutes walk away.
