Modern detached 3-bedroom villa, south facing, with views to the Gavarres hills, full A/C and WIFI, in quiet area 1.5km from historic Begur and 3km from beautiful beaches
The villa stands above road level with a curved driveway and ample parking. The villa, together with the garden and pool, is on one level and south facing, so sunshine both morning and afternoon. There is a spacious lounge, dining room and fully equipped kitchen. The master bedroom has a queen-size bed and ensuite bathroom, and there is an internal hall leading to two further double bedrooms, one of which is a twin bedded room, and a second bathroom adjacent to both these bedrooms.
Patio doors lead out from the lounge, dining room and master bedroom to a large covered patio with sun blinds, patio suite, table & chairs for outside dining, and a gas BBQ. The garden and pool are not overlooked.
Laundry facilities with washing machine and tumble drier are located in the integral garage. There is full air conditioning in the living areas and bedrooms. Secure WIFI for internet connection is available inside and outside the property, and there is English TV.
The local supermarket is just a 10-minute walk away with newspapers, charcuterie, meat, fish, fresh bread every day and an excellent wine selection.
The villa is in a quiet residential area overlooking a wooded hillside, 1.5km from the historic town of Begur with its restaurants, boutiques, bars and Castle. The beautiful beaches of Aigua Blava and Tamariu are a short drive away, as is the old fishing village of Calella de Palafrugell with multiple sandy bays, and the stunning beach of Llafranc. The seaside villages are linked by a coastal path which continues around the coast in both directions for those who enjoy walking.
In Begur and Palafrugell there are weekly markets, music and dancing, and open-air concerts at Cap Roig Botanical Gardens. There is much to explore in the medieval villages of Pals and Peretallada, the Dahli Museum at Figueres, and the colourful ceramics shops in La Bisbal. Children will enjoy the Water Park at nearby Platja d'Aro and the bird/butterfly park at Roses.
Although there is public transport from Begur to the beaches, and buses and trains (from Flaca) to Barcelona, visitors prefer to have their own transport.
There are no high rise hotels on this part of the coast and thus no package tours here, and the area is not subject to the kind of youthful excess which can occur in other parts of Spain.
Our villa was completed in 2005 and we offer the villa for rental during June, July and August.

Ideal home in Begur
We spent a wonderful week at Marion and Alan's home with our two children in late August. The house is the epitome of stylish comfort - if anything the photos don't do it justice.
Alan and Mario were exemplary hosts, leaving us a very generous welcome pack containing bottles of wine beer, whiskey liqueur, milk, eggs, bread, coffee, tea and butter. Their generosity did not end there. Our children broke two lamps, including an expensive-looking light in their living room, yet they refused repeated offers to pay for replacing the items.
We couldn't disagree more with the previous reviewer, who made a somewhat peevish complaint that the house is not located near enough to the centre of Begur. The description on OD makes it clear that the house is roughly a mile from the town, or 15-minute away at normal walking pace. They previous reviewer went on to note that Tamariu is "more than 5 minutes" away, insinuating that the owners had suggested that the beach was close by. Again, the reviewer has not read the description closely enough; it states quite plainly that Tamariu is 15 minutes away.
I would not hesitate to recommend Alan and Marion's villa to any family looking to visit this beautiful part of Spain. In fact, we have already passed on the details of the property to one of our neighbours.
Not as expected
Marion and Alan were very helpful. However we thought the villa wasn't as luxurious as described! It was clean, but not as well equipped as we would have liked, e.g more than one place setting per person would have made life easier. We felt that some clever photography had been used to sell the villa including a night scene of Begur which is fact a photo of a picture on the wall. It was quite a walk to the centre of Begur and definitely more than 5mins drive to Taramiu! The Costa Brava is beautiful, with many fantastic beaches to visit, and we had some amazing meals out.
This family of five adults were here for the wettest week of the summer which included the worst rainstorm in 40 years.
Responding to their specific points:
1)"the villa wasn´t as luxurious as described" We do not, and never would, describe it as luxurious.
2) "..more place settings". The villa has a 54 piece matched quality cutlery set for 6 people and has always been adequate for guests. Until now.
3)"clever photograpy used to sell the property" The photo on the OD website is one that is used extensively to show what a beautiful village Begur is. It has not been copied from our 200x40cm wall picture, purchased locally from the photographic shop in Begur. The implication that we would use photos to misrepresent the property is just untrue and insulting.
4)"quite a walk to the centre of Begur" We advise visitors to have transport. The walk to the centre of Begur is undulating, and Begur is a hilltop village. We do not advise anyone to walk there although some guests do.
5) Tamariu is a 12 minute drive by the scenic route not 5 minutes as stated in the OD text, and we have amended the text accordingly. It can take longer via Palafrugell.
Finally, we make no charge for breakages. We know that accidents happen. We do, however, trust guests to advise us when they happen in order that we repair or replace items before changeover day when time is critical. Their failure to advise us when it happened left us with a small but costly repair requiring an electrician on their departure morning. Our trust in them was clearly misplaced in this instance.
A nice family for the most part, but perhaps the bad weather before and during their week in Begur upset them.
Marion & Alan
A truly exceptional villa; designed, built and beautifully maintained by Marion and Alan. The warmest and most welcoming of hosts, they reside in the area and are on hand to address the slightest concern. The best villa we have stayed in after 12 years of travelling to Spain, with excellent, crisp and fresh linen and towels provided, making the whole experience home from home. An astonishing welcome pack that avoids an immediate trip to the super market (drinks, ham and cheese from the delicatessen). With two university age daughters, great internet and the fascination of Begur/Pals/Llafranc/Cadaques boutique shops and restaurants, the villa is an ideal location to explore the area. For those less inclined to shop, eat or drink, then the numerous well marked local paths are wonderful and a peaceful escape. The south facing garden is a god send for the sun loving daughters - capturing the last rays until 9pm in mid-summer, something we were eager to ensure after 2 years in the Sa Riera side of Begur where the steep hills hid the sun from about 4:30pm. Yet the fantastic terrace provides ample shade and Begur is known for its soothing sea breezes and the air-conditioning is perfect for the hottest days - so all tastes are catered for.
The only downside of the villa is that Marion and Alan have made such a wonderful welcome, that like all the other reviewers, we're planning to go back and have booked for 2015. Our recommendation is to have no doubts and act quickly - this will make an exceptional 'home' for your holiday abroad.
Thank you both for a memorable 2014 holiday.
Love this place
Alan and Marion are such great hosts! This was like staying in a friends house! They provided us with some great information on arrival. The Villa is so well appointed, it literally had everything we needed! The villa is spacious and bright and airy and was absolutely spotless. The immaculate garden gets the sun for the whole day and the large patio provides some welcome shade for Al Fresco dining! The villa is a short drive into Begur, which has a great choice of restaurants and is close to some amazing beaches, great for a day trip! I cannot recommend this villa highly enough.
We have returned for the second time to this wonderful property and again it does not disappoint. The reasons for this are multiple:-
The owners had this property designed and built to their demanding specification as they live here for a good part of the year. The décor, quality of furnishings, kitchen and utility equipment are of the highest standard and well above what one would normally expect in a summer holiday rental.
The position of the property is in a quiet well maintained area to the West of the idyllic town of Begur. The views from the property are primarily south facing onto open land with trees and the garden and pool area, as well as the large covered patio, are totally private. There is nothing better than being able to eat al fresco and relax with a drink on the covered patio that runs the full width of the house, giving a shaded area if required from the heat of the sun. The garden is well maintained with many beautiful flowering shrubs, plants and a very pleasant pool to cool off during the heat of the day.
Within a ten minute walking distance is a very well stocked supermarket with good quality products. This includes a fresh fish shop, a butcher which also has a wide range of meats, marinated and ready to barbecue, a delicatessen offering a wide choice of cold meats, salamis and cheese, plus an in-house bakery for both bread and cakes. They also have a wide range of wines and beers at competitive prices to suit all tastes. If you were to drive there it takes less than 5 minutes.
The property is an excellent base for visiting many of the local beaches, excellent restaurants, and exploring some of the beautiful coast line as well as the old medieval towns in the area.
With barbecue facilities and Sky television offering all the packages, it is nice to be able to relax at home in the evenings if you so wish.
As always Marion and Alan were very welcoming and immediately responsive to any suggestion made to make the holiday even more enjoyable. It is always nice to know that there is someone local on hand if you need them.
We shall be returning for a third year running which in itself is a good recommendation for any property.
