Planetarium of Zafferana Etnea
The Planetarium is a semi-spherical structure capable of observing the sky in all the details. It is the largest planetarium in Sicily and one of the largest in Italy. A place to witness the spectacle of the universe, the sky, the stars, the galaxies, the constellations, the comets and the falling stars, through a modern 360 ° projection system, in which the spectators are literally surrounded by fascinating images and engaging with an incredible three-dimensional effect.
The itinerary develops on the North-East side of Etna, in the locality of Piano delle Donne, near the Rifugio Citelli. The route begins with a visit to the 1928 eruptive fractures, which opened on the north-eastern side for many kilometers, sometimes leaving wide openings with deep abysses. The second part of the route, in part, follows that reported by the Etna Park by numbered basalt stones. After passing the bar marking the beginning of the path, you immediately enter the birch forest. This is the only area of Etna where these beautiful trees, so typically Nordic, manage to form extensive and practically pure woods. Continuing along the path, we reach the Monti Sartorius, the eruptive "bottoniera" that originated during the eruption of 1865. The secondary cones still appear completely naked, with the exception of a few and few specimens of birch and larch pine.
