'Arriba'- Tranquil village apartment

Property type apartment
Minimum Stay 4 nights

About the property

Apartment with countryside views

Come to Casa Juanillo and our village of Mures, discover the charming region of Andalucia. Mures is a real working Spanish village nestled in the foothills just north of the breathtaking city of Granada and the spectacular Alhambra Palace, right in the heart of Spanish countryside and south of the beautiful and historic city of Cordoba.

Casa Juanillo has 2 comfortably and sympathetically restored, self catering apartments,at the edge of an idyllic and tranquil village overlooking the countryside.

'Bajo' is the lower of our two apartments and has an ample sized living/dining/kitchen area with two easy chairs and a comfortable double sized sofa bed.

The bedroom is spacious and the bed can be set up as a large double bed or as twin beds. There is a wardrobe with shelves in and bedside tables.

The generously sized shower room has a toilet, sink and powerful shower, heated from a large water boiler, which holds plenty of hot water.

The village has a small shop, pharmacy and bank. There are two bars that open all year round and our local barbeque restaurant, that is open from early May until September/October, is highly recommended.

Casa Juanillo offers a good base for the Sierra Nevada mountain range where you can ski for up to 5 months of the year. Or you can chose to just relax, go for a walk, cycling or bird watching, our countryside is ideal for any of these activities and planned routes can be provided.

If you are looking for culture,Casa Juanillo is perfectly situated to visit the cities of Granada, Cordoba and Jaen, as well as other towns and villages of historical importance.

During your time with us, make sure you experience the friendly local bars and savour the complimentary tapas.

Enjoy your stay at Casa Juanillo and immerse yourself in Spanish culture and local history and explore all it has to offer or just simply sit by the pool and relax in our peaceful surroundings.

After over 20 years working for Staffordshire police, I decided to make a change in career and came to Spain to experience a slower pace of life and beautiful weather.

Why EMMA QUINLAN chose Alcalá la Real

We love the countryside but didn't want to be too remote so this property offers the best of both worlds, with the village only 10 minutes walk away and our local town of Alcala La Real, with its shops and bars just over 10 minutes away by car.

The castle in Alcala might be smaller than the beautiful Alhambra palace in Granada but is impressive in its own right and well worth a visit.

Free audio guides are available from the ticket office.

What makes this apartment unique

If you want a taste of 'real Spain' this is the place for you.

I may be biased but our neighbours are the loveliest we have ever known. They are so friendly and helpful and very generous, particularly with their fresh produce.

Our guests are ore often than not, on the receiving end of this generosity.

Guestbook comments from the owner

The location with the village setting and the very un-touristy population is great. It was really nice having breakfast on the patio enjoying the views over the allotments and across the valley while there was still some shade to keep things cooler.

The location is spot on for those wanting to see a bit of real rural Andalucia.

Before I finish I want to say how it really made the holiday having such friendly neighbours and villagers, the ladies in the shop were really patient and I think they found our attempts to communicate quite entertaining.

Property as described, Owners very friendly and helpful. A TV would be nice.

Mures is something of a quiet backwater but great if you want to get away from it all, the barbeque restaurant at the other end of the village is good. Good base to visit Granada and Cordoba. Local town Alcala La Real is well worth a visit, not just for the supermarket and restaurants but the Castle/Church is a must.

A most enjoyable stay

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I chose the property because of it's proximity to the city of Granada but in the end what we liked was the fact that Mures and nearby Alcala La Real are not touristy places and the property is well situated to explore the less visited towns in Jaen province. Access to the excellent road network is easy and driving is a joy. The property is quite spacious and very comfortable to stay in. It is well equipped, though I would suggest that a cafetiere is needed to cater for those who, like me, need their morning coffee The pool seemed quite inviting, though we did not try it out, and the terrace is a lovely place to relax as the sun goes down. We had a most enjoyable stay with Emma and I would happily return to see more of this delightful part of Spain

Beautiful tranquil retreat

  • 5 of 5

We found the property without problem after a few helpful emails from Emma and Terry the owners, we got there roughly around teatime and had a lovely welcome pack waiting so we could have a drink and a snack. Emma and Terry were very friendly and helpful informing us of the nearby shop. The apartment was lovely and clean and had everything we could ask for in a holiday property. We didn't venture into the pool but my 11yr old was in it at every opportunity. We really enjoyed our stay there and would highly recommend it to anyone looking to get off the beaten path.

Loved it!

  • 5 of 5

Mures is a typical Andalucian village with bars, a restaurant that serves enormous portions and friendly locals. It's a great base from which to explore the sierras, Córdoba and Grenada, by foot, bike or car. The apartment was comfortable and well equipped. Terry and Emma were excellent hosts, nothing was too much trouble; their knowledge of the local area is encyclopaedic! All in all, a lovely place to stay.

Fourth time, we must love it!!

  • 5 of 5

This is our fourth stay here in Mures. we have slept three times in the upstairs and once in the downstairs house. They both are very comfortable and very clean. The kitchen is great and we have cooked lots of wonderful meals in there using local produce.

The area is great for walking and sightseeing and of course a trip to Granada. The weather has always been great on each occasion and we have visited in May, July and September.

The local restaurant is great and serves huge portions and is within walking distance. The supermarket and pharmacy are within walking distance. It is advisable to have a car to get the house. We have driven from Malaga and we have also caught the bus to Granada stayed there a few nights and then hired a car in Granada.

The pool is fabulous and a blessing in the summer. The patio is ideal for eating your meals anytime of day or drinking a bottle of wine in an evening. The bread van is useful in a morning for cakes and bread.

Terry and Emma were very helpful and the few essentials are always great. Fantastic relaxing holiday. Hope to go again soon.

A taste of Spanish Life at its Best

  • 5 of 5

Thank you for another two fabulous weeks in Mures. You made us feel really welcome. We loved relaxing on the terrace with a glass of wine, meeting the locals and visiting the very different bars within Mures. Everyone made us feel part of the village.

Granada and Alcala la Real are great places to visit, full of history and culture with lots to see but we also liked sitting down in the cafes and just watching the world go by.

We also loved exploring the surrounding local countryside which has some great walks and villages like Moclin which were full of hidden surprises.

Hopefully we can do it all again next year. Thanks again for a wonderful time.
