About Mrs Gibbs

We are a Cornish-Italian family of 5, counting Nero, our black Labrador. My husband Peter was born in Penzance, Cornwall, myself in Padova Italy. Both of us have traveled extensively and have clocked up many Countries Worldwide. 9 years ago we moved back to Cornwall with our daughters and we are very happy here. We like walking, kayaking and sea angling both from the kayak and the shore. We hope you will enjoy your stay in the far West of Cornwall.

Mrs Gibbs purchased this barn in 2008

Why Mrs Gibbs chose Saint Levan

Treen is a much sought after location both for local families and as a holiday second home destination due to its close proximity to fabulous beaches at Pednvounder and Porthcurno as well as the Minack open air theatre and a great local pub the Logan Rock Inn. When the property came for sale in 2008 we bought it immediately after the first viewing. It was originally a farm with 3 dilapidated Barns that were used in the past to prepare flowers for market and to house cattle and the farm horse. We started the renovation of Bleujenn and Gwennel barns in January 2011 and after just over 2 years the project is completed, offering two traditional accommodation units in the heart of lovely Treen village.

What makes this barn unique

Walking distance via the coastal path to 2 golden sandy beaches, Pednvounder and Porthcurno. Atmospheric local pub serving food and with indoor as well as outdoor dining. Other attractions such as the Minack open air theatre set in the cliffs above Porthcurno. Porthcurno Telegraph Museum nearby. For bird watchers and those that enjoy nature great clifftop walks and wildlife. For those who like sea fishing the opportunity to fish for a wide range of species off the local beaches as well as rocks. For those who surf, local beaches such as Gwenver and Sennen cove provide good breaks and are a short drive from Treen.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Wonderful week! Fantastic location: we adored to be at walk-able distance of the Coastal Path, so much Beauty. Thanks for the lovely comfortable holiday accommodation and the setting was glorious enabling us to rarely need the use of the car.

We have stayed in probably 20+ cottages in recent years, and Gwennel stood out from the rest in respect of the local information provided and the access to the coastal path. It was of course of a very high standard for self catering so was a delightful place to stay.

Highlights to choose from:

-Sennen to watch the sun go down

-Tin Mine coastal walk

-Walk between Lamorna and Mousehole

- Minack and back and the local beaches

We hopefully will book again in the future and choose another dry week!

Gwennel Barn is very well presented and has everything you need for an enjoyable holiday

  • 5 of 5

The sun was shining and the property was exactly what we were expecting from the website. Shortly after arrival Nico popped in to check that we were happy and later brought some locally made artisan bread.

The location is so peaceful and with the coastal path only a few hundred yards away it is ideal for exploring the local coastline on foot.

Nearby Minack Theatre was an absolute bonus!

The local pub is very friendly and serves good food. Ale not bad either!

Fortunately the weather was kind and we enjoyed a very relaxing holiday in a fantastic place.

Thoughtfully arranged accomadation

  • 5 of 5

Quality equals comfort. We enjoyed our stay.

few niggles as the owner forgot to turn on the hot water so we had to wait a bit for that and Likewise the freezer was off but we didn't realise. so we had to throw food out. But I guess it's our job to check things are working on arrival.

Our beautiful Cornish getaway

  • 5 of 5

Beautifully appointed luxurious holiday accommodation. Ideally situated, within easy walking distance for the stunning South Cornwall coast, with its beautiful beaches, pub shop/cafe, and the Minack Theatre.

The secure south facing garden is lovely, enjoying the sun all day long.

We have stayed at numerous places in Cornwall, but this is a little piece of heaven. Over the last two years we have stayed here four times, and have booked again for this year.

Look no further than Gwennel Barn !

This cottage is fantastic, quiet, clean and well-equipped. We found everything we needed and sometimes even more. Landscapes are wonderful. Moreover, we went in there twice. We would definitely recommend this cottage most highly.

Gorgeous base to explore beautiful Cornwall

  • 5 of 5

We regularly stay in Treen, we camp in the summer and the barn was our precious find for our winter stays. Considering the barn was derelict only a couple of years ago, it has undergone a remarkable transformation to become a lovely, clean, welcoming, classy holiday let. It has been done to the highest spec.

Nico, the owner, is very friendly and is on hand to assist or give you any information you want. Last year I arrived for my birthday stay and her daughter had baked me a birthday cake, what a lovely touch. I would have no hesitation whatsoever in recommending this gorgeous barn as a place to stay to explore such a beautiful part of Cornwall.

I could go on about the area all day, it is amazing, access to beautiful unspoilt beaches as well as the south west coast path. Definitely dont miss visiting Pednvounder beach, just below Treen, there is a climb down to the beach at the bottom, but it is definitely achievable, it must be the most beautiful beach in the world. The Minack Theatre is close and if you are feeling brave you can walk there, and come back in the dark. Even if there are no performances you fancy, go as a day visitor, its an amazing place. The walk from Treen to Lands End is gorgeous, we carry on walking to Sennon, and then cut back across land through the Penberth Valley.

Ideally for us the barn also accepts dogs, we are very careful while we are there to confine them to their bed, but when you arrive there is no trace that other dogs have been there before you. It is spotless.

Highly recommended

Just make sure you don't book February half term! That is our week!!!

Treen lies in a designated area of natural beauty; its cliffs and surrounding area are maintained by the National Trust. Within walking distance from the barn are:

- the astonishing beaches Pednvounder and Porthcurno with their golden sand and crystal blue water.

- the headland Logan Rock, with its famous eighty ton granite boulder perched on the edge of the cliffs. For passionate of ancient history, the Logan Rock headland is also an Iron Age promontory fort called Treryn Dinas, defended by ramparts.

- About 30 minutes walk away is the Minack Theater, the world famous open air Theater, nested on the cliffs overlooking the sea.

- Sennen Beach for surfing is only a short car drive away.

- Penberth, the fishing Cove, an undiscovered gem, can be reached in 10 minutes walk.

Last but not least, the award winning pub located in the heart of Treen village, the Logan Rock Inn, which serves a very good selection of food and drinks.

Back from the beach or from an exploration of the area, you can experience the life of a small village, where it feels that time has halted in its tracks: walk to the local quaint pub, The Logan Rock Inn, which serves good food and a wast selections of drinks; watch the cows walk to their pasture or simply relax in the quiet surroundings.
