An intimate villa designed for a luxury island experience. The cottage offers complete privacy in a national park setting. Special features include private tennis court, spa, upper and lower level bedrooms, plus study with "day bed", two full baths one with pergola shower, full kitchen, covered outdoor living space and extensive decks from which to view the boats sailing Drakes Passage. Walk or take a short drive to the exquisite sands of Cinnamon Bay or other north shore beaches.
This property is beautiful, peaceful and private, yet close to beaches and cruz bay. We have stayed in upper level 3 times (never used lower level) and we hope to stay here again. Upper level perfect for a couple and maybe one child (there isn't much privacy or room though, so only good if child young).
Our main goal in visiting St. John is the National Park and Orchid Cottage sits right in the middle of all the park main attractions; its beaches and trails. We were able to snorkel 7 days in a row due to its convenient location and the views our eyes opened to every morning confirmed we were in paradise. Orchid Cottage is well equipped for easy living. A lovely place to spend as much time as possible. Thank you, Suzanne and Bill for sharing your heaven with us.
My husband and I stayed at Orchid Cottage for a week (late March into early April.) The location was excellent. Centrally located to beaches, Cruz Bay or Coral Bay. The views are just wonderful and the cool breeze from being up in the hills was a welcome relief after a hot day on the south side of St. John. We played tennis on the adjacent court every day - most of the time in the morning, but the court is nicely shaded for play in the late afternoon. The cottage is very sweet and perfect for a couple. I must say it was extremely satisfactory and better than I had imagined from the pictures. Hosts Bill and Suzanne were very helpful although we only saw them on the day we arrived and the morning we departed. Definitely need to have a vehicle as the cottage is a ways off the major road. Also wanted to add that because of the slope of the driveway and entry, it could be difficult access to the cottage for anyone with mobility issues. I feel very lucky we found this rental on VRBO!
My husband and I stayed at Orchid Cottage two years in a row. It is a lovely, quiet place to call home for a week on St. John. I LOVE the outdoor shower and the amazing views. The kitchen is well-equipped for cooking, and the patio with grill is a great place to eat outside. Also, a lovely spot just to lounge and read. Suzanne and Bill are wonderful, thoughtful hosts, who will help out with any problems. (I inadvertently locked us out one day, and Suzanne came from Cruz Bay to our rescue!) With all the rain this past year, the plants around the cottage were in all their glory, adding to the charm. I recommend it highly to a couple if you want to be close to Cruz Bay and beaches, yet in a quiet spot. Also, if you play tennis. The courts look great.
My wife and I stayed at the Orchid cottage between Christmas and New Year's. Bill and Suzanne welcomed us, showed us where everything was and then we never saw them again, even though they were just the other side of the tennis court if we needed anything. The cottage was very clean and well maintained. There were plenty of towels and the bed was very comfortable. The kitchen was well equipped, we cooked a couple of meals there and ate at restaurants in Coral Bay the rest of the time. Our favorite time of day was when we returned from snorkeling or hiking and sat on the balcony with snacks and cold drinks and just stared at the magnificent view below us of Francis Bay and over to Tortola. The good = the view, the quiet, tennis court next door for use (we both play, but never found the time between snorkeling and relaxing), the hot tub - very relaxing, and everything you need is provided in the cottage. The bad = not really bad, but the outdoor shower can be unnerving if you are shy about standing out in the open in the buff ( which is okay if it is just the two of you, but not okay if others are around) Also, the shower can be a bit brisk if there is a breeze blowing in from the north. Overall, our stay at the cottage was wonderful and we would stay there again.
