About Ruth Pickering
I grew up on the Island and now live in the Midlands. We have family connections in the Isle of Wight and a great love of this region of the Island. The cottage was purchased from a family member in 2016.
Ruth Pickering purchased this Cottage in 2016
Why Ruth Pickering chose Ventnor
The cottage is ideally situated close to the downs and the sea. Bonchurch is a very pretty village. The cottage is very comfortable and has great charm. The view from the cottage overlooking the pond is beautiful.

Lovely property in lovely location perfectly situated either for short walk to Ventnor which has probably the easiest access to the rest of the Isle of Wight with some good restaurants and cafes. Thoroughly enjoyed our week. (Good weather added bonus).
The perfect home from home
This pretty little cottage is located in a picture perfect village on the south of the island. The house is beautifully decorated and has everything a family could need for a comfortable and relaxing break. The kitchen is fully equipped and there is a separate dining room as well as a small seating area at the back. The beds are comfortable and the bed linen spotlessly clean. Cannot recommend highly enough
Thank you for your nice review of Grebe Cottage.
I am so glad that you enjoyed your stay. We look forward to welcoming you again sometime.
A delightful cottage
Bonchurch is a charming but very quiet village. Glebe Cottage is opposite the pond in the heart of the village and it is an extremely well equipped and comfortable home. It has everything to make for a most enjoyable visit - I'd like to move in!
Lovely home - warm cosy and welcoming - we loved our stay here
Really nice house in the village of Bonchurch. Be prepared to walk to park your car as it's only 1 hour opposite during the day.
It was a lovely property to holiday in, and it as in a great location.
When you first arrive at a rental property, you never know what to expect and I always open the door with some trepidation. This cottage was exactly as described. It was clean, very clean and had just about everything you need for a happy stay.
Fantastic property. Wonderful village with close proximity to a lovely morning walk to Ventnor
Wonderful house. Everything there that you wanted for a fantastic holiday. Lovely conservatory and decking area where you could relax in the late afternoon sun.
Very dog friendly area.
Wonderful small village with an undulating wonder down to a traffic free walk into Ventnor and onto a hilly walk to another traffic free village called Steephill Cove. Achievable by an active and fit 85 year old!!
Not far from wonderful beaches on the glorious South Coast Road.
The glorious views from Alum Bay to the Needles and over the Downs to the Tennison Monument.
What a wonderful time we had with the most fantastic weather.
We will return soon.
Thank you for your nice review Wendy.
I am so glad that you enjoyed your stay.

An idyllic retreat in the heart of one of the Isle of Wight's prettiest villages, Grebe Cottage was recently completely renovated and now offers a stylish holiday experience. The cottage is directly opposite the famous Bonchurch Pond, and a short walk from the quiet sandy beach at Monks Bay. The excellent Bonchurch Inn is within walking distance, and for a wider choice of amenities the charming seaside resort of Ventnor is a 15-20 minute walk. The property is set back from the road and presents a very pretty wisteria clad frontage. A generous entrance hall with hanging space leads to the comfortable main lounge, stylishly decorated, with TV and audio systems and a pretty open fireplace. A separate dining room is furnished in old pine. The kitchen is newly fitted in a white Shaker style, with gas hob, electric oven, microwave, fridge, freezer, dishwasher and Nespresso machine. Off the kitchen is a sun porch, ideal for morning coffee, and a utility room with washing machine and tumble dryer, and downstairs WC. There is an enclosed decked garden to the rear of the property with outside dining facilities. Upstairs, the master bedroom enjoys excellent views of the pond and has a king size double bed. The second bedroom has two single beds that can be zipped together (please advise at time of booking). The spacious luxury bathroom, newly renovated, has a powerful shower, corner bath, bidet and under floor heating. Grebe Cottage has been expertly renovated by Distinctive Designs of Ventnor, and is decorated in subtle colours from the Zoffany range.
Location description from owner
The England region
The South Wight is very special. Slightly removed from the main tourist beaches the Ventnor Undercliff enjoys a Mediterranean microclimate. Exotic plants can grow -you will find an international collection in Ventnor Botanic Gardens, Ventnor was developed in Victorian times as a fashionable seaside resort, and there is much fine seaside architecture. After suffering a period of decline during the 1960s and 70s it is now resurgent, and enjoys a thriving arts scene, quirky shops, and provides the full seaside experience in an uncrowded environment. The Undercliff nestles beneath St Boniface Down, which offers excellent down land walking with fabulous sea and rural views.
Bonchurch is one of the Island's prettiest villages. Mostly constructed of the local stone and dating from medieval times, it was developed from about 1800 as a retreat for the wealthy, with large houses, villas and cottages, artfully positioned in generous gardens. The famous Pond is a natural feature that was developed in Victorian times into the wonderful village centrepiece it is today. The village is close to but sheltered from the sea, and enjoys sandy and quiet beaches. A stay in Bonchurch is lovely at any time of year. There is always something to do, from watching the ducklings on the pond in early summer to the fabulous autumn colours to dramatic coastal walks in winter.
