At first sight the overall impression was promising and the cottage felt snug.
The upstairs was beautifully decorated, especially the childrens' room. The bathroom was in good order but having a shower was a challenge as you could not stand upright due to the sloping ceiling. The kitchen was clean and appeared well stocked but when we came to cook there was no chopping board or casserole dish with lid to cook the meals that we had brought. We were unable to get the washing machine to work and had we been able to an airer would have been useful to hang the washing on. We were asked to bring our own linen and towels but this only became apparent after we had paid the balance. It should have been made clear in the initial cottage description. We felt very cold at times as the space heaters were not adequate for the job. Although to be fair we did learn that the owners were trying to sort out this problem Having said all that we found the position excellent being so close to the beach and pub. It was good to find a butchers shop close by with good quality produce. A newly opened cheese shop in the High Street was a good find. parking the car was a bit confusing and it needs to be made clear that there are 2 carparks at the top of the hill and it is important to choose the right one. However we did enjoy our stay and having hired many cottages over the years we have learnt that nothing is perfect and the quirks of individual cottages make for good talking points.
Very cozy ideal location
Just as expected for a fisherman's cottage. Lots of character and charm with all the facilities we needed.
Idilic surroundings. Extremely pretty village. Local business owners friendly and helpful. lovely
Accommodation was warm and cosy. There was just the two of us and our little dog but the cottage also has a lovely children's bedroom too. The kitchen is well equipped and the sitting room is comfortable and very welcoming especially once the fire is alight.
The whole area is delightful with very pretty surroundings and lots of lovely walks. Walking across the harbour with our dog in the mornings started each day off perfectly. Quite a climb out of the village which is hard going for those not used to the landscape - we are from Norfolk! Super little shops and all the locals that we spoke to were warm, friendly and very helpful.
We are booked to stay again next June and we are also making plans with the rest of the family to spend Christmas 2019 in the area, all together. Cant wait.
Staithes is beautiful, as is the whole area, and we would recommend it to anyone.
Perfect location so close to the beach. Everything we needed was included in the cottage. Didnt give 4 as the TV didnt work and the bedrooms were ery dusty including the bedding but the rest of the cottage was clean.
First time in Staithes
Cottage was perfect and in a great location, close to everything.
Thoroughly enjoyed our stay and already looking to book another visit.
Fantastic little, quirky village that transports you back in time. Loved that there was no phone signal, meaning people stopped to speak with each other and enjoy the fabulous scenery. Our little cottage was in a great location as we were close to the seafront with very few steps to climb. Did I mention the village is at the bottom of a very steep hill? Not good for people with walking disabilities.
The museum was superb value for money and we had fun finding the 'paintings' dotted around town.
There is a butcher and 2 pubs. Not overly priced but more than you might pay at home which is only to be expected. There are also a couple of gift shops.
There is a well stocked Co-op at the top of the village. It would be a good idea to either bring your shopping with you, or get it delivered from Asda. You can drive down to unload but you must park overnight in the car park at the top of the hill.
It appears our cottage may be undergoing some renovation work as the there is new plastering in the lounge and bedroom that has not yet been painted. The kitchen and bathroom look new. The shower was only useful if you are under 5ft tall and the kitchen could have been better planned; however, this did not deter me from enjoying the space as a whole. There was a wide selection of DVD's which was just as well as there were not many channels to watch on TV. There may have been more than we found but there was no instruction on how to find them, and we didn't want to break anything by messing around with remote control buttons. Again this was not an issue for us, as the weather was fabulous; so we sat out in the evening, chatting with the neighbours and passers-by. It is a very friendly village.
The photos and description of the property shown on this site are not accurate. I was informed by the owners 2 days before travelling that we had to bring our own duvet cover and pillowcases, yet the pictures suggests it comes ready to go. That said, when I advised the owners I did not have a KS duvet at home so would have to purchase one, they were kind enough to have the bed fully ready for our arrival. Upon arrival, there were no towels but this was also remedied with a quick phone call to the owners.
The property would benefit from redecoration and a good clean in certain areas (light fittings, windows, under the sofas, etc) however, it was not dreadfully bad.
All in all, we had a fabulous visit and we would stay here again.
