Beautiful house, wonderful host
Matteo is a great Host and his farm is the perfect spot to relax and to enjoy the beautiful surrounding.. We enjoyed our stay a lot and can highly recommend this accommodation
Beauty, seclusion, kind hospitality on farm in glorious countryside near Ravenna
We loved our stay in Monte Spada! When we arrived, our host, Matteo Bolognesi, helped us carry our suitcases up the second floor apartment. The view of the surrounding vineyards and fields in the late afternoon light was so entrancing that it took a while for us to stop leaning out the windows and appreciate the nicely outfitted kitchen and sitting area and fireplace and the spiral staircase up to the bedroom and bath. Our host provided welcoming gifts of bread, coffee, milk and his own honey and fragrant olive oil, fresh cherries, and fava beans. Then he encouraged us to drive back the few kilometers to Zattaglia, for the Cinghiale Festival for a memorable plate of tagliatelle with wild boar ragu (and an even more memorable rescue from a disastrous parking mistake by generous festival goers). Throughout our 10-day stay, Matteo answered our every question helpfully, brought us his freshly made, warm piadini and invited us to help ourselves to the herbs in his garden. We slept well in the comfortable bed, awakening to a dawn chorus of many bird voices. We walked the well-marked trails surrounding Monte Spada, made several excursions to the lovely medieval town of Brisighella (so close and so intriguing), and explored Faenza with its enormous ceramics museum and sweeping central piazza. Matteo also introduced us to the best guide we’ve ever met anywhere, Giovanni Giglio, who made the mosaics and history of Ravenna come alive for us with his erudition and narrative flair. We left Monte Spada with regret and remember it with sighing affection. Gracie mille, Matteo!
Des vacances au calme avec des propriétaires charmants et très discrets.
Un cadre magnifique, loin de l'agitation des touristes, mais pas si loin des lieux intéressants à visiter.
We are located in the hills of Brisighella (RA) near Zattaglia. Since 1724 Monte Spada is the place where our family lived, a hill above the valley of the Sintria overlooking the Vena del Gesso Romagnola.
Here stands a rural stone house dating back to the '500 whose original core still shows the imprint of the typical medieval Torre House of the pre-Apennines.
Monte Spada is also a farm that over time has assumed more and more the connotations of an open-air classroom, where through experience you can learn the culture of the territory in various declinations: naturalistic, geological, agronomic, historical and gastronomic.
The Paths of Monte Spada will guide you to the discovery of agro and ecosystems, between the lavandeto, the orchards, the olive grove and the vineyard, the spelled and hemp plots, the woods, the ponds, the gessi of the Parco della Vena del Gesso Romagnola .
15 minutes by car: Brisighella with its medieval village, Riolo with the hot salsobromoiodic thermal pool and the Thermarium, Casola Valsenio and the Herbs Garden. 30 minutes by car: Faenza and the International Museum of Ceramics. An hour and a half drive to the Romagna Riviera, Cervia and its salt pans within the Po Delta Park. Ravenna and Florence can also be reached by train from Fognano train station.
I (Matteo) work and live here in the old family home and I remain available for information on the territory, the tasting of our products (extra virgin olive oil, preserves, jams, fruit), the visit to our crops, the harvest of seasonal fruits and, on request, for a small catering service.
From the end of June to the end of July the lavatory opens to the guests and it is possible to collect and distil the lavender with us.
Matteo and Rita are available by booking guests for shiatsu massages, for enegetic rebalancing or with Monte Spada bio products (essential oils, extra virgin olive oil, honey).
