About Ian and Maureen Fairbairn
Ian was born and raised at Rough Park. Today Ian runs 2 companies, one providing film, media and training services, the other is a robotics and automation business. Ian and Maureen live in North Yorkshire with their four children.
Why Ian and Maureen Fairbairn chose Delabole
Rough Park was built sometime in the 18th century probably because it has access to good quality well water. The well and the proximity to the road meant Rough Park was a well known stopping point for travellers and in particular gypsy families. The road opposite the farm is known as Gypsy Lane and as late as the 1970’s gypsies would regularly stop to request a “kettle of sweet water.” The farm was originally part of the Boconnock Estate but along with many other farms in the area was sold off after WW1 to pay death duties. My great-grandfatherbought the farm in 1919 and it has been in the family ever since. My sister and I were born here.

Lovely place to stay
A comfortable well equipped cottage , all the character of a old farmhouse with a fab new extended kitchen , three generations had a memorable time here and would highly recommend it , the hospitality of Brenda, with a welcoming home made sponge and bottle of wine , milk in the fridge as we were arriving late , was a wonderful thoughtful touch ,
Its great to hear you all had a good time and enjoyed the welcome. Your positive feedback is really important to us,thank-you.

Friendly and Welcoming in a Beautiful Part of the Country
Thank you so much to Ian, Maureen and Brenda. We had a great week with our family exploring the area as we had not been to this part of Cornwall before. Such a beautiful place and Tintagel was just up the road, as was Port Isaac where Doc Martin is filmed. There are so many gorgeous beaches and towns around that we would love to revisit in the Summer months at some point.
The farmhouse itself felt very homely and welcoming with everything clean and well cared for and all the equipment you could need. Ideal for a family to spend time together and we made full use of the kitchen with family meals in the evenings. We had an Easter egg hunt in the garden (even though the kids are grown up) which is a fantastic space and thank you to Brenda for the amazing cake when we arrived and even an Easter egg! Provisions were in the fridge too and we were very grateful. Highly recommend!
The property is beautiful, spacious, bright and so well equipped. Great family get away where you don’t feel like you’re on top of each other! Just great, and would highly recommend!
Thank you so much for taking time to send your review. We are pleased you found the property to your liking. Hopefully we will be able to welcome you and your family again some time in the future

A brilliant base and lovely house!
I have just spent a week at Rough Park farm with my family and we had a brilliant stay. Such a charming house with a great play area for children and a lovely spacious kitchen. We got to visit some places, our favourite being Daymer Bay! A cake and wine on arrival was gratefully received and Brenda was very helpful when needed, thank you. We would definitely stay at the farm again if we are ever in Cornwall for a holiday. Thank you for the extra little touches!
Thank you for such a lovely review. We are really pleased you had such a great time and hope you do come to cornwall again

Lovely farmhouse, well equipped, suitable for all ages especially children.
We had a lovely two week stay, our third visit. Three generations and ideal for all of us. The children particularly loved the garden, their own private park, and were out playing as soon as they woke. Weather was a bit mixed but we found plenty to do near and far, including cycling the Camel trail, ten pin bowling and mini golf at Trethorne. Fun on the beach at Polzeath. Swimming. Crabbing was brilliant at Boscastle. Lovely meal at the Maltsters Arms would highly recommend it. Visited lots of our favourite places Padstow, Tintagel, Boscastle, Trebarwith, Wadebridge to name a few. Would also like to say a big thank you to Brenda for the lovely welcoming cake, tea and biscuits etc., very much appreciated.
