A spacious house in a picturesque wine-making village
Our beautiful house is situated in a picturesque wine-making village of Berlou, 10km from the town of St Chinian. It stands on the edge of the village, providing both privacy and access to village facilities, which include tennis courts and wine shop (the local Cave Cooperative produces some of the best wines in the area). There is a large garden with trees, a lawn, and a swimming pool with a terrace for sun-bathing. It is a place of relaxation and tranquility, there's no wi-fi or TV in the house.
The house is lovely and comfortable, with spacious, light-filled rooms and a large garden with a swimming pool.
The house can accommodate up to 10 people.
It is spacious, with 2 terraces for outside eating, and a large garden with a swimming pool.
If you like your French holiday to be chic and individual rather than perfect, it is for you to enjoy, it's beautiful, you wont' find an ugly object inside. We changed the roof last autumn, but there are small marks on some walls from old leaks, and the door-handles are 19th century and squeak, but we love them.
We re-tiled the pool last spring and now have the most beautiful swimming pool in the whole of Languedoc-Roussillon!
A large open plan kitchen is situated on the raised ground floor, with a table for 10, and two large sofas for an after-dinner digestif. Or enjoy a glass of eau de vie in the adjacent salon-library, with 2 further sofas, 2 armchairs and a coffee-table. Large doors open onto the terrace with outside table and chairs.
Next to the salon, on the same floor, there's a twin bedroom with an adjacent bathroom (toilet and shower).
A curved staircase with cast-iron railings leads to the 1st floor, where you will find 3 further bedroom (1 en-suite) and 2 bathrooms.
Guests have the use of the entire house and a 3000 m2 garden, with lawn, some fruit trees and lavender borders, as well as the swimming pool 10m x 5 m with the terrace for chaise-longues.
The village of Berlou, renowned for its excellent wines, is one of the best producers of St Chinian Appellation Contrôlée. Staying in Berlou, you can be guaranteed a proper holiday in France, with beautiful views and great wines!

We are a family of 4, our children grew up between London and this beautiful village, and have learned to walk, swim, jump from rocks, canoe, drink wine and gaze at the stars here; our lives would have been more pale and insular without this house and the village of Berlou. Here we've had years of fun, honey-smelling air, games, parties, visits from friends and family and incredible wild life around. Where else would you see, from the terrace, while sipping a glass of excellent wine, an eagle circling around, with a snake in its beak?!

Why Owner chose Berlou
Beautiful house in a pretty wine-making village. The house is on the edge of the village, providing privacy and yet the sense of community and security. The village is one of the best wine producers in the area, one thing you never run out of here is excellent wines from the local Cave.

Idyllic - Just perfect for a relaxing family holiday.
We stayed in Berlou for 10 days and it was as gorgeous as we had hoped and was pretty much as Irina has described in the property description.
We had asked for some extra photos of the inside of the house and I actually don't think that they really did it justice. The house was beautifully cool with high ceilings, it felt very spacious (although there were only 5 of us), was clean and was quite simply decorated. It was also a little bit on the shabby side of chic, which we loved - a home from home - but if you are expecting high style and finesse you might be disappointed.
It was a shame that Berlou didn't have any shops, but a bread van did visit every day mid morning and it was lovely to visit local markets and shops in the area.
Swimming in the rivers at Roquebrun and Viellessan, walking up the Gorges d'Heric, cycling along the old railway from Mons, canoeing and the market at St Chinian were all highlights for us, and of course swimming in the pool every day.
Normally we are happy to come home at the end of a holiday, but not this time!
