Beautiful stone cottage with heated pool in charming village

Bedrooms 3
Property type cottage
Minimum Stay 3 - 7 nights

About the property

"L'Oustaou Figuièra" is a charming 3 bedroomed stone cottage overlooking vineyards on the edge of a rural village.

It's secluded position provides an ideal holiday location whether it is relaxing around the swimming pool or exploring this beautiful region which is so rich in history and culture.

There is a short 10 minute walk into the village for the boulangerie, épicerie or café/bar and the magnificent town of Uzès is a 25 minute drive.

The area abounds with great places to eat and, as it is in the Cotes du Rhone region, there are plenty of opportunities to sample the wines. The local markets which are great places to visit are are packed with high quality produce and are recognised as some of the best in France.

We are surrounded by numerous beautiful mediaeval villages and a little further afield there are some great places to visit - Nimes with it's wonderful Roman amphitheatre - 1 hour, The walled city of Avignon - 45 minutes, the spectacular Pont du Gard - 30 minutes and the beautiful Mediterranean beaches are just over an hour away.

For the more energetic, the swimming pool has a 'swim against' current, there are tennis courts in the village, some excellent signposted walks and for keen cyclists Mont Ventoux is about a 45 minute drive away! Kayaking is available down the nearby Gard or Cèze rivers and in the dramatic Ardèche valley which is a short drive away. We can also arrange horse riding in the Cèze valley.

But you may prefer to make the most of the sunshine by simply relaxing by the pool. And the new summer kitchen with its wood-fired oven and barbecue is the perfect place for a long lunch in the shade of the fig tree.

L’Oustaou Figuièra is a family holiday home and is equipped with everything you will need for a wonderful holiday. It has three bedrooms each with a double bed and there is also a double sofa bed on the ground floor.

Please note that access to the property is via stone steps which may prove unsuitable for those with walking difficulties. Unfortunately, there is no easy access to the property for wheelchair users.

About Colin Franklin

Having recently retired we took the opportunity to fulfil our dream of owning a home in France. We couldn't be happier with our purchase - we love the time we spend here and it is a wonderful holiday home for our family.

Colin Franklin purchased this cottage in 2015

Why Colin Franklin chose Saint-Marcel-de-Careiret

We have spent many wonderful holidays in France. We chanced upon the town of Uzès a number of years ago and knew that, if we ever bought a home in France, it would be in this area.

It's position on the edge of the village is ideal - very peaceful but an easy walk to the boulangerie or the bar!

We have been made very welcome here by many locals and we're particularly fortunate to have Véronique our neighbour as our "gardienne".

We love the French way of life and Saint Marcel is a great place to enjoy it

What makes this cottage unique

We think the house which is a converted farm building is over 200 years old. It is stone built, full of charm and complete with all the modern facilities you would expect. And the 'mediterranean' garden with its fig and apricot trees, lavender and rosemary is an absolute haven of peace.

We hope you will find it as special as we do.

Beautiful, peaceful home for 5 nights. Loved being at the house, swimming in the pool, lounging around the pool reading. Very well stocked kitchen - we didn't eat at any restaurants, just cooked every night.

The location is absolutely peaceful, the only noise at night was the nightingales singing. A strangely independent horse came to chew on grass in the vineyard a few of the days we were there... The pizza oven is fantastic, we made 6 delicious pizzas in it. Days out included a canoe down the Ceze, a visit to Chanoine Rambert for some degustation and wine restocking, and a very wet visit to Uzes, which looked beautiful. A perfect holiday, loved it.

The perfect haven to relax and undwind a stone's throw away from attractions to interest everyone.

A beautiful, well equipped house to enjoy relaxing days by the pool, with a superb summer kitchen for cooking and eating al fresco while enjoying the view of the vineyard. We enjoyed early morning trips to the boulangerie for bread and croissants. All the neighbours were very friendly. We also enjoyed kayaking under Pont du Gard, the caverns at Pont d'Arc and Avignon and Usès are beautiful old towns. Overall a very relaxing holiday in s quiet yet convenient location.

A beautiful house in an idyllic setting

  • 5 of 5

We spent a wonderful fortnight in glorious weather. The house is like a home from home; we took our usual collection of paraphernalia that other gites lack, but we needed none of it. Colin has thought of everything.

Colin made arrangements easy and checked up on us during our stay, very discreetly by text.

We can't recommend L'Oustau Figuièra highly enough.

Wonderfully kept residence in a beautiful location

  • 5 of 5

Travelling from Australia, we stayed here for a memorable week.

Colin was an excellent host, providing sound directions to find the property, and a great guestbook of suggestions for getting the most out of our stay.

The house has been lovingly looked after and every aspect was in excellent condition. The location itself was idyllic, and we enjoyed exploring local markets, cooking in the lovely kitchen, and spending time together in such an inspirational surrounding.

Would recommend to anyone looking for a stay in the Gard area, and would not hesitate to return given the chance ourselves.
