This Creole-style home offers relaxation and great views across Mobile Bay of bridges, islands, ships and sailboats. There is plenty of outdoor living space on every level, even over the bay. It is at the end of a quiet, secluded street. The house is ideal for a great get aways as well as family reunions, parties, special events and weddings.
The historic Mobile brick stairway leads to great first impressions and lasting memories. As you enter through the mahogany front door, quality is evident.
The home is open and spacious with three nicely appointed bedrooms and a pull out sofa sleeper. The master suite includes a spacious master bath with Jacuzzi tub. The home sleeps up to 10. There is a gourmet kitchen, with eat-at counter and breakfast area. There is a formal dining room and living room. For entertainment, the upstairs family room has a large TV, DVD player, games, puzzles and movies. There is also a main floor laundry room for your convenience. The outdoor covered deck has bistro patio sets to enjoy the sunrise and bay views. The lower level is equipped with a fish cleaning station for you to enjoy your fresh 'catch of the day' and a charcoal grill. The public boat launch is less than a mile away.
Southern Comfort is conveniently located minutes from I-10, downtown Mobile and shopping malls. It is approximately 20 minutes from Dauphin Island and 35 minutes to the Mississippi casinos in Biloxi.
Easy to stay, hard to leave.
Directly on Mobile Bay with access nearby, Dog River Marina.
Beautiful, spacious, & convenient to downtown & beaches. Great place for weekend retreat. Would recommend a motion sensor light for coming in after dark. The park next door draws a good number of visitors but they were courteous & quiet.
Like other reviewers, I agree this is an impressive house, roomy, well-kept, right on the water, with great views of Mobile Bay. The house is big, with lots o space to spread out. The furniture is clean and comfortable. There is a wrap around porch, but little outdoor furniture. I would prefer a swing, glider, or rocker to better enjoy the porch and yard. There is a steep drop from the yard into the bay, so it may not be suitable for small children. Also, the house is located on a dead-end road, right on the bay. While we were there, several cars parked at the dead end (right in front of the house, actually). Don't know what they were doing just parked there at the dead end, but it happened several times.
We are currently staying here and it is beautiful, I love all of the windows, and it is a lot of fun. And it was a pleasant surprise that you had wifi. I just wish it was a little warmer outside so we could enjoy the water.
The purpose of this visit was a tour of University of South Alabama, family vacation, and to look at real estate in the area for a possible investment home for our children to live in while they attend college. This is a wonderful home with great grounds that are well maintained. It sets on the water on the west side of Mobile Bay just north of the Dog River with a small dock and a wrap around deck. My family enjoyed fishing and catching crabs from the dock during high tide and the water was shallow with a sandy bottom for those that wanted to swim. The location is a drive to get anywhere. It is 25-30 minutes from Dauphin Island, 15 minutes to get to restraunts, and an hour plus to get to Orange Beach and Gulf Shores. The road to the home ends 30 feet from the front steps and is a public access point to the water. Everyday brought a new round of strangers parking in front of the house to fish, walk their dogs, or look at the water. Most of the were great to talk with about the surrounding area. One nignt we arrived at the house with a meth head looking woman in a beat up Ford Explorer and no plates parked at the house. She was all nervous and jumped out with a gas can and acted like she was putting gas in her vehicle and tried to explain why she was there, but made no sense at all. Not sure where she got the gas can on a dead end road and why she jumped out of her vehicle when we pulled up... This area was hit hard during Katrina and many of the homes surrounding the house were destroyed and the lots are now vacant and not maintained. This is no reflection on the home but just an observation of the area. We would stay at the house again but it is disturbing to have strangers pulling up at the house all of the time. All in all, the home was a bargain and a pleasant experience compared to a hotel room.
Beautiful southern home, love the stairs coming in the front door. House is very bright and cheerful with lots of windows to see the bay. Very clean upon arrival~(You will need your own ammenites like paper products) The grounds were clean and maintained. The comforters on beds are old but I always bring my own anyway. The kitchen could use a few more items but overall has what you need. I would definately come back here to stay. I was a little hesitant reading the reviews but thought I would give it a try and I am glad I did. I love it and would recommed it to anyone!! Beautiful views of the bay.
Defintiely not as advertised - gas fireplace and one bed broken and unusable, phone not working, pots and pans worn out, lawn and grounds not maintained. Overall condition of house needs major attention. While the view is pretty and area generally quiet and peaceful, we found the price of rental to be out of line with quality of home (not our first time to rent vacation homes so we do have a foundation for our opinion).
