Why Barbara gaunt chose Centrès
Aveyron is generally regarded as the best kept secret of France; we looked at many properties throughout SW France but found the mill and its valley a very magical spot, a wonderful and calming place in which to establish our Gite complex, the property has such a wonderful peaceful atmosphere, whilst still retaining its sense of adventure.

We had a wonderful stay at Le Moulin d’Ayres - outstanding natural location, peace and quiet and a comfortable, well-equipped gite with everything we needed for an excellent family holiday. The burble of the mill race was so relaxing and the best thing to fall asleep to. In more active moments, we found many interesting towns and markets nearby to visit and went canyoning at Millau.
Barbara and David are kind and thoughtful hosts and get it just right. And Barbara’s lemon drizzle cake is awesome.
The property is located in a tranquil, idyllic spot in the mid-pyrenees. The house is a pretty cottage sitting next to the original mill house and the owner's property. We had an enjoyable stay and the property is orientated so you can get some privacy from the other two buildings on the plot. Owners very approachable and helpful.
Wifi signal was very poor for a lot if our stay although the owner's tried hard to rectify. Pool too cold for us on most days so heated would have been lovely.
Very tranquil and comfortable stay.
We had a very relaxing stay in the old barn which is beautifully renovated and comfortably furnished. Particularly the large lounge with the most comfortable seating we've experienced in our many years staying in various gites. It is situated about 50 meters from a gently flowing shallow river surrounded by trees which has a calming ambiance. The pool is surrounded by an extensive lawn far bigger than we expected. The pool is a good size but sadly it was too cold for us in October. Thank you to Barbara and David for being very welcoming and helpful. We hope to visit again and stay longer than 4 days.
Dear David Thank you for the kind review I am pleased we made your holiday a good experience, it was a pleasure having you both to stay.
We hope that by next year we will have the pool heated so guests can swim in the cooler months. It will be our pleasure to welcome you back maybe with some of your family as well.

Moulin d'Ayres was a perfect getaway - a lovely pastoral setting with delightful, welcoming hosts.
Barbara and David greeted us at the gite after a few phone calls to make certain we were on track to our destination. To our great surprise and pleasure, Barbara had thoughtfully arranged for us to dine at a nearby B&B owned by a friend. The meal was delicious and the hostess totally charming. Upon our return, a generous "welcome pack" with all necessities for B'fast, including one of Barbara's delicious cakes awaited.
The house, itself, was well equipped and comfortable, with an ideal configuration of four bedrooms, all with ensuite baths and amenities. Throughout our stay, Barbara & David were always available to answer questions and offer suggestions and assistance, including arrangement for a friend's airport shuttle!
One cautionary note: The gite is in a truly picturesque site - surrounded by beautiful countryside - however marketing, restaurants etc. require at least a 15-20 minute drive. Also, be advised that internet and cell phone service is unreliable or non-existent (apparently soon to be remedied). Nonetheless, this minor inconvenience is easily overcome by a quick drive to the top of the hill with a great view.
We could not have been happier with our choice of Moulin d'Ayres for our vacation and have no doubt that future guests will share our view.
Dear Janice and Michael. Thank you for your very kind review it was a pleasure meeting you both, your son,his girlfriend and your friend, and having you at the mill was our pleasure.
Orange have now sorted out the internet not as fast as you would get in the city, we also have a dongle for guests to use, sadly because of our location we will not be able to get a mobile phone signal, but guests can use our land line if they need to get in touch with someone.
Kindest Regards Barbara and David
Beautiful, quiet, relaxing break with everything we could have wanted to hand.
We had a fabulous break at the Moulins d’Ayres with everything we could have wished for from the tranquil but convenient location to the beautiful stream at the bottom of the garden where we went crayfishing. Barbara and David were the perfect hosts with everything we needed provided and lots of advice about the local area and places to go. Fantastic welcome pack including freshly grown produce and a delicious chocolate cake baked for our arrival. Spacious living areas made it perfect for our group of 7 with space for teenagers to chill out and the pool was fantastic, with towels, sun loungers and umbrellas just there, ready and waiting. The local supermarket was also good and within a short drive of the property. Easy to find with either a map or a SATNAV. Loved every minute of the holiday and hope to return again soon. Thanks again to Barbara and David for their amazing hospitality.
Dear Nicola. thank you for taking the time to write this lov.ey review, I am so,pleased you had a great holiday with us. It was a pleasure having you stay and enjoying the property and the pool, and we look forward to welcoming you again. Kindest regards Barbara and David
Our Family holiday - Steve & Nikki
From the first five minutes of arrival we knew we had picked a gem. Such an idyllic beautiful location, the owner Barbara was waiting for us although we were a couple of hours early before the alloted check in time this was not a problem and the Gite was ready for us.
The Gite is furnished to an exceptionaly high standard with everything we needed for our stay. To us it was five star all the way.
Barbara is the perfect host even taking time to purchase provisions for our first night as a we arrived on a Sunday when all the stores are closed.
During our stay it was our twins birthday and Barbara went to the trouble of making a delicious chocolate cake. (Thank you again Barbara). Nothing was too much trouble.
A stream runs alongside the Gite which is shallow and safe and you must do some cray fishing.
We used this break as a relaxation holiday to get away from the pressures of everyday life, and to rejuvenate, our children are aged from 15 to 22 and it was great to see them all enjoy the amazing pool together and just "chillin".
We had an amazing time. A car is required because it is remote.
The nearby canoeing and paddle boarding at the Tarn Gorge was fantastic about 1.45 hours away. Do the 11km it's great fun and beautiful.
We had fantastic hot weather and wanted for nothing.
We visited a couple of the local markets which were great.
We used the bbq every evening for our family meals despite a fully equipped new kitchen being available.
We shall hopefully visit again.
Anyone holidaying in this Gite whether it be as a family or a group of friends cannot be anything but satisfied, 100% recommendation.
Go for it you won't be disappointed.
Dear Nikki and Steve. Thank you so much for the lovely review, we are so pleased you had a good holiday. It was great that you and the boys had such a good time in the river and in the pool and it was my pleasure baking a cake for the twins birthday. The area is so interesting it will be our pleasure having you all back again in the future. Once again thank you and hope to see you again. Kindest regards and huge hugs Barbara
On the edge of the Cathar and Templar regions, the Aveyron area is steeped in history. Even though it has an area almost half that of Wales, almost all of the department can be reached from the mill within an hour. Bastide towns, cathedral cities, castles, art galleries, museums aplenty. The childhood home of Toulouse Lautrec can be visited 15 minutes away, and just 45 minutes away in the neighbouring department of Tarn the famous cathedral and the Toulouse Lautrec museum make the Unesco heritage town of Albi a must. A little further is the Gaillac wine region. All sporting facilities, water based and land based, are locally available, even the occasional theme park. For the lovers of modern engineering, the stunning Millau bridge is an hour away and the delightful railway bridge over the Viaur twenty minutes. In high season each village has its fete and there are numerous night markets and open air theatre and music spectacles.
