A central courtyard, while very traditional in Andalusia, is quite hard to find in beach houses. But Casa Leticia has one; in fact, it pretty much ticks all the boxes for those looking for something authentic on the Costa de la Luz: the beach within 100m; the patio interior (complete with palm tree); traditional floor tiles and brickwork; large airy rooms; and plenty of sun and shade.

All the rooms, except the main bedroom suite, are on the ground floor, built around the central courtyard, meaning they are bathed in a lovely soft light all day. The courtyard also makes a wonderful peaceful sitting area, with its numerous pot plants and shady palm. The large sitting room runs down one side, the open fire making one end cozy on winter nights, and the covered dining terrace opening off the larger “summer end”. There is also a very nice dining room running down one of the other sides of the courtyard and connecting with the kitchen, which, although traditional, has everything you will need. The other two sides of the courtyard contain four of the bedrooms and 2 of the bathrooms, as well as the large entrance hall and the staircase to the first floor. The main suite on the first floor has a private terrace from which you get a glimpse of the sea (there is no real sea view, but it is perfect for sitting at night and listening to the waves!) The overall feeling at Casa Leticia is of space and comfort: no over-furnishing, carefully chosen pastels, beds and sofas of an excellent quality; and bedrooms and bathrooms that are generous (many houses of this size have a couple more bedrooms crammed in!); and on top there is a choice of communal areas, should you need a bit of space to yourself!

It is a similar story outside. The main terrace has a covered area for eating, and around the corner a comfortable sitting area, the pool being visible from both. There is then another outdoor eating area by the built-in BBQ, under the shade of the pines. The garden has been recently re-planted and is very well cared for. And the green-tiled pool adds to the lush atmosphere.

The location is virtually unbeatable: it is just 100m back from the northern end of the Roche beach and the famous beach bar/restaurant (this one is open June-September, but it is just a 10-minute walk down the beach to another one that is open all year); it is a short stroll (400m) to the local shop, pharmacy, playground, and Roche’s two bars, and only 200m further to the tennis and padel courts. Within a five-minute drive, there is a choice of good local restaurants. You could holiday here without a car; but you would be missing Conil-de-la-Frontera (10 minutes), the hilltop village of Vejer-de-la-Frontera (20 minutes), Cadiz (30 minutes), Tarifa and Jerez (both 40 minutes), and Seville (90 minutes)!

About DosXtremos

Originally a husband-wife team that left Madrid for Spain’s deep south and a change of virtually everything, we came up with the idea of DosXtremos in 2006, the catalyst being the need to increase the number of people renting our own properties, one in La Coruña and the other in Cadiz, Atlantic Spain’s two wonderful extremes. And since then, even though the business has grown (we now manage a number of properties for other owners), our goal has always been the same: to try and tell other people about these two wonderful and relatively undeveloped areas of Spain that have brought us so much happiness! For this reason, the website has a heavy focus on regional information and includes details on the activities that we enjoy, both individually and as a family with young children.

All our houses are in the provinces of La Coruña and Cadiz, although there is a significant bias towards Cadiz, because that is where we live. Each house has been chosen because it has something special to offer, and we have tried to ensure that the mix meets a variety of tastes and requirements. In the case of the Cadiz properties, we live close by, meaning we are on-hand for problem solving and making recommendations. You may prefer to lounge by the pool (all our pools are extremely tempting!), but if you do want to explore, we have suggestions to fill a lot more than two weeks! As for La Coruña, we personally are a long way away, but the properties are well looked after and our list of recommendations is even longer (to offset the less predictable weather!) In addition, we have a close and productive working relationship with all our owners, and we believe this shows in the way our properties are maintained.

Those two extremes: Cadiz & La Coruña are quite different, but equally fabulous; and we are able and eager to tell you all sorts of things about both. It is a simple recipe: the better the information we give you, the more likely you are to have a good time...and therefore to return!

great house near the beach

Very spacious house with an equally large garden area. We were three families with five kids under five and it worked very well for us - particularly the excellent pool. An enormous, unspoilt golden sand beach is only a few minutes walk away and there's a very good bar on it for seafood and drinks. Other beachfront restaurants and bars are about a 10 minute drive away. Worth noting that the immediate stretch of beach is mainly Spanish holidaymakers and there's no sign of the package tourism that you get further up the coast.

The house is generally very well kept and stocked (though could use a few more kitchen implements). There's no air-con. We were just about fine in a (hot) mid-June with the fans that were provided, as the house keeps relatively cool.
