Many faces of the same medal that for centuries fascinate tourists and visitors through monuments, palaces, castles, fountains and theaters of rare beauty. A city often bothered by its own inhabitants but capable of giving unique emotions to both those who visit it once and to those who live there every day, Palermo enters the heart and stays there forever.

The district

Castellammare or Loggia is situated in the historical center of the city and is one of the four historic districts or districts of Palermo. A quadrilateral bordered by Via Maqueda, the Corso Vittorio Emanuele, Via Cavour and Via Crispi in which we find one of the most famous historical markets of the city, the Vucciria. Its name comes from the eponymous castle but also took the name "the Lodge" because since ancient times, in this neighborhood, born beyond the Punic walls, were present at the Lodges of the Maritime Republics; over the centuries, wars, insurrections and the heavy bombing of World War wiped out whole neighborhoods overlooking the sea and the district nearly disappeared. Today little remains of the castle that has deeply compromised in its ancient and layered identity 'urbanism. In 2009, as a result of excavations and restoration work began to unearth the remains of an Arab settlement in Piazza XIII Victims, became the nucleus of the Castellammare Mandamento Archaeological Park "Castellammare".

The largest number of monuments, churches and buildings of the city is spread in the historic center: the church of Santa Maria della Catena, Porta Felice, Piazza Santo Spirito with the fountain of the Seahorse, Piazza Marina, Villa Garibaldi, Palazzo Steri, the church of St. Francis of Assisi, the Quattro Canti, Piazza Pretoria, San Giuseppe dei Teatini, the church of SS. Salvatore, the Cathedral, the Archbishop's Palace, Piazza della Vittoria, Norman Palace with the Palatine Chapel, Porta Nuova, just to name a few are all within walking distance with ease. Others are distributed throughout the territory of Palermo: historic villas, watch towers, traps, rock carvings or simply old churches and palaces. The Arab-Norman itinerary, a World Heritage Site, consists of nine monuments, including seven in the city and in the immediate vicinity of the house and the Royal Palace with the Palatine Chapel, the church of St. John of the Hermits and the St. Mary's (known as the church of the Martorana), the church of San Cataldo, the Cathedral, the Zisa palace and the bridge of the Admiral. Unesco also belong to the Cathedral of Monreale (20 minutes by car) and the cathedral of Cefalu (less than one hour), with their cloisters and reputable.
