The Cooks Cottage - an old rustic fisherman's cottage a minute from the beach

Bedrooms 3
Property type cottage
Minimum Stay 2 nights

About the property

3 double bedrooms, 2 bathrooms (one of which is upstairs) near the sea & shops

The cottage is an old rustic fisherman's cottage with 3 double bedrooms & two bathrooms (one of which is upstairs) across 3 floors, with a lovely courtyard garden, and it is about 30 secs from the lovely independent shops and restaurants of Whitstable and a minute from the sea & beach!

The interior is filled with a quirky mix of vintage & french boho furniture and there are the original wooden floorboards throughout the cottage. The sitting room has two large, comfy chesterfield sofas that will seat 6 people easily and the adjacent dining room has a dining room table which seats 6 people comfortably and there is also a lovely large real open fire for cosy winter nights!

Dogs are welcome to stay. (We have two rescue dogs although - they and us - obviously won't be there during your stay.)

All the bed linen and towels are made from high quality Egyptian cotton and during the summer months (actually up until October as it's still so hot) we will also provide beach towels, sun hats, beach mats, a picnic hamper etc.

In the garden we have a BBQ and we have a table & chairs for outside dining for up to 8 people. We have a chiminea in the garden for those evenings that turn a bit chilly.

The kitchen is stocked with fresh herbs from our garden, plus other dried herbs & spices, coffee, tea, sugar and further cooking condiments and the kitchen is well equipped with most things for those that wish to cook - hence the name of the cottage, as the kitchen has been built by a specialist carpenter and stocked with cooking utensils & condiments for those people like us that love to cook!

For home entertainment we have lots of vinyl records and a lovely working radiogram for guests to play records on, apple speakers for digital music, lots of books, games and two TV's with Sky and there is wifi throughout the cottage.

This unique cottage is packed with lots of interesting one off antiques, has a shabby chic decor and is full of rustic charm. The cottage has a lovely walled garden with beautiful rose bushes and home grown herbs as well as a French table and chairs for at least 8 people dining outside ; there's a sitting room with two chesterfield sofas which seats at least six people comfortably; the dining room has a real open log fire and a dining table & chairs that seats 6 people; the downstairs bathroom with the original cast iron roll top bath and there is also a more modern shower room upstairs; each of the three double bedrooms have antique double beds and Egyptian cotton sheets; plus there's an amazing bespoke gallery kitchen with hand -made wooden worktops a range cooker, smeg fridge freezer, and a full complement of pots, pans and utensils. There are also wooden floors and old school radiators throughout the cottage.

NB: please note that like all fisherman cottages in Whitstable the stairs are very steep and aren't suitable for those people who have mobility issues.

Birthday weekend - 12th to 15th January

  • 5 of 5

Had a fantastic weekend at The Cooks Cottage, everything was simple from the booking, checking in and checking out.

The cottage is beautiful and in a great location, close to the beach, local shops, restaurants and pubs.

This was a surprise weekend for my Wife's 50th and we stayed with our two grown up children and partners, so 6 of us in total. Plenty of room to sit and relax in the living room, eat, play games, listen to records and sit by the open fire in the dining room and cook breakfasts with local fare from the numerous shops (E17 was cool) in the well equipped kitchen.

The bedrooms were a good size and the beds very comfortable all served by an adequate shower room and toilet of the first floor (the master bed is on the 2nd floor). There is a cracking bathroom on the ground floor with a great bathtub.

Plenty of cups, glasses and kitchenware and everything else you would need for a relaxing break.

Whitstable is lovely, great walks, beach and harbour a stones throw away. Loved the Old Neptune right on the beach and we ate at The Sportsman and Birdies (who accommodated 18 of us and a dog on the Saturday night).

Looking forward to our next visit, thanks for helping to make the weekend an unforgettable one!

Quirky, comfortable, great location.

We really enjoyed staying here. A comfortable and sociable space. Even though we were only 20 paces from cafes and shops we did actually cook! The beds were very cosy and snug for our winter getaway. Owners/caretakers could not have been more friendly and helpful. Thank you.

We will be coming back ! Delightful cottage in an excellent location.

  • 4 of 5

We were five adults and two small children and we all had a wonderful time. The cottage is exactly as described and we loved it. The location is perfect, we parked the cars up and didn't use them again until we left. You are a stones throw from all the shops and restaurants and five minutes away from the beach and harbour. The ice cream parlour just around the corner was a big hit with adults and children alike. Our youngest son is a chef and was producing delicious food for us all from the cottage's quirky kitchen. If I haven't awarded the cottage five stars it is only because there was no dishwasher ! A BBQ is provided in the courtyard garden where we sat outside every evening.

The bedrooms are lovely and I think I slept in the most comfortable bed ever ! There is a lovely old fashioned bathroom downstairs that the children loved - huge deep bath and loads of toiletries left for us to use.

Be warned, the stairs are very steep so we did have to be vigilant with the youngest member of our group who kept making a beeline towards them whenever possible. Lack of dishwasher aside, we had a wonderful time at this lovely cottage and would heartily recommend it.

Owner's Response: So pleased you had a lovely stay at our cottage & hope to see you again one day. Re your comments about the lack of dishwasher, we don't have a dishwasher because we don't agree with them on environmental grounds but I do appreciate this might be a bit annoying for some people. (Personally, I've always found a bit of washing up quite therapeutic!) And yes, like all these old fisherman cottages, the stairs are steep but we have two travel safety stair gates for guests that have very young children. Selina
