The roads up to the farmhouse can be quite twisty and tourney, so if you suffer from travel sickness or have small children it may be a good idea to bring some travel pills.
There is a small lake not far from the farmhouse: ..... A lovelly family from Denmark explored the area and left me these comments....'there is a small lake if you continue on the small road coming from St Giorgio, (I believe second road to the right if you skip the driveway to La Casa Rosa. and continue about 800 m). I went there with Ella, talked to the nice farmers whom the lake belongs to, and were allowed to do some fishing. Caught a small carp, but there is bigger ones too, and certainly other species as well. Hooked one big thing, but didn't land it - fishermens tales, you know!'
My daughter, Evie, and I in one of the agritourismos nearby to La Casa Rosa. My wife and I brought La Casa Rosa in 2006 and spent over a year renovating to bring up to an exceptional standard. We love the area and make regular visits to Italy when we can.We especially enjoy eating the food and mixing with the locals. Their way of life is unlike any other I have come across!! We run our foreign lettings and UK renovations business from our home in Epping Forest on the North eastern edge of London.
Adam Baker purchased this farmhouse in 2006
Its character, its uniquness and its stunning location in the hills overlooking the Gran Sasso to the West and the Adriatic coast in the distance in the East.
Original Farmhouse made form natural Maeilla stone. The modern rear extension of the farmhouse brings it to the 21st centaury.
This years vacation rental that went to Abruzzo at La Casa Rosa turned out to be excellent.
The house is roomy and really comfortable, with nice furnishing in generally big rooms. Kitchen and bathrooms lacked nothing.
La Casa Rosa is situated beatyfully, with an astounding panorama of the hills and mountains in the area. The nearest neighbours are not far from the house, but far enough so you are not bothered. On top of this they are wonderfull people. I talked with the old man for about ½ an hour, even though he only speaks Italian, and I dont!
The pool is well kept and nicely laid out, big enough for some swimming, but not huge. Also dont miss the great sandbeaches nearby.
Finally the owner is extremely nice, well organized, communicates swiftly and do everything possible, so you will have an enjoyable stay. Thanks Adam.
Adam is extremely helpful and everything was as described. The people living in the surrounding houses are very friendly but no ones speaks English so try to learn some basics before you go - we didn't and felt very ignorant lol. If you are looking for a completely relaxing holiday the farmhouse certainly fits the bill. We ventured out each day to various villages that had been recommended to us and tended to eat out for lunch and return to the farmhouse in the afternoon for a dip in the pool and then spent our evenings playing games or reading. No hesitation in recommending.
Gorgeous rustic house, beautiful view, refreshing pool, sweet kind neighbours and lots to do around this gorgeous part of Italy. Day trips to many interesting parts of Abruzzo. Well equipped kitchen, large bedrooms and bathrooms, spacious living areas. Would not hesitate to recommend. If you love Italy, you will love Casa Rosa and Abruzzo.
The house is clean, convienient and situated in the fantastic area - driving around everyday was such a pleasure and the views from the house were splendid. It was quite complicated to find our way there - and thanks to Adam for the detailed descriptions he mailed us. The Italian family neighbours were very friendly and helpful - inspite the fact that we could not speak Italian and they nad no English. And it was lovely to see a bit of farm life for our children - sheeps and rabbits and a horse in the neighborhood.
From the simple, rustic beauty of the house itself to the breathtaking view of the Gran Sasso mountain (and the Majella) in the distance, the Casa Rosa was precisely what the Dr. ordered for us and our friends. Sergio and Annamaria, the folks who run the farm adjacent to the property couldn't have been nicer, more welcoming people (and the pecorino cheese they make rivals the best we've had anywhere). And this theme of welcome and generosity played out everywhere we went, from Franca's amazing cooking at the agriturismo 5 minutes from the house, to wonderful people at trattorie and ristoranti in Loreto Aprutino and Penne, to the villagers we met and talked with in nearby Castiglione Messer Raimondo and Castilenti. The people of Abruzzo are not jaded by mass tourism and seem to take their responsibilities as hosts as a matter of honor. It was humbling. And we were very sorry to leave.
The local topography was stunningly beautiful- rolling hills like something from a renaissance painting, and the house well situated: 30 minutes from Penne's charming historic center; 40 from Loreto; less than an hour to the beach. It took only a beautful 40 minute drive from the house to arrive on the Campo Imperatore, the high mountain plain above the Gran Sasso. We passed pasturing cattle, sheep protected by their white sheepdogs and herds of wild horses before descending on the medieval towns of Santo Stefano and Castel del Monte. The diversity of the landscape might be unrivalled in Italy.
The house was very comfortable and well-equipped. It has been very tastefully restored. We shopped in Penne and had the local pasta maker in Castiglione craft some ravioli and Maccheroni alla chitarra for us and grilled lamb and sausage poolside, watching the rocky face of the Gran Sasso change colors in the fading light. It was magical.
Our fellow travelers were veterans of many Tuscan stays. They kept repeating how much friendlier and open the local Abruzzese people were. And their young daughter, who loved the pool, kept a log of every animal she saw. We will be back.
we went in La Casa Rosa for the last new years eve. we staied for four days..unfortunately not many! we spent some days far from the chaos. the house is very nice, big and nice decorated. there's everything you need! we certainly will be back during the summer! I would reccomend anyone to go there!

Within easy reach are family run restaurants (some just a few Km away) which use locally grown produce. They say Abruzzo is the kitchen of Italy. Aftrer discovering this incredible area and eating in the local family run restaurants you will see why! With National Parks and blue flag , golden sand beaches a plenty a trip to this amazing region will not disappoint. La Casa Rosa has been visited by guests from all over the world. All enjoying this stunning area from walking to bike riding and from Skiing to sunbathing on the glorious beaches. Why not visit Italy's capital city of romance, Rome.
