About Carl Cullimore
We, Carl and Maria Cullimore, came to Comares in 1999 with the idea of buying a holiday home…and we are still here! We continue to be thrilled by the views and beautiful, colourful landscape of Andalusia. The white washed village of Comares is both unique and unspoiled yet only an hour from Malaga. The perfect rural base to relax and explore. La Paz, our finca meaning “peace” was renovated and a swimming pool was built on the hillside. We converted part of the farmhouse to a self contained studio overlooking the pool and our holiday rentals idea became a reality when we welcomed our first guests in 2002. Our next project was Villa Romo, spacious accommodation with pool and popular with families. Friends owning properties locally and wishing to rent their villas for holidays have entrusted us with the keys and management responsibilities. We are proud to showcase a small, quality selection of individual villas, beach houses apartments and even a seaside Fisherman’s Cottage. We provide a professional, bespoke service which can include the rental marketing and maintenance of holiday properties in the Axarquia region of Andalusia.

9 Nights in one of the most relaxing places I have ever stayed.
Studio is roomy, clean and has everything you need and more. The grounds are lovely and the pool was spotless and very welcome after a day exploring. BBQ was used a couple of times too, which was great. The owners left a few essentials in the studio for us, which made for a nice breakfast on our first day.
This property is a bit of the beaten path, so if you want nightclubs and crowds, its not for you.
It is close enough to busy Velez or Torre de Marre if you want or need anything. There is also a decent supermarket in Comares which is only about 10/15 mins drive away. Few restaurants here too, although we only tried "camping" - food was good and plentiful and not too expensive. We also tried El Molino in Los Ventorros which was nice.
All in all, a fantastic holiday with hosts who were very nice, helping if needed, but otherwise leaving you to your own devices.
They have a gorgeous dog called Tommy who we made friends with - we missed our own dogs, so Tommy was great to get our canine fix.
We are missing La Paz already and may return someday.
Thank you Maria and Carl and Tommy for one of the most relaxing holidays we have ever had.
Charming Unspoiled Haven
The studio is rustic and basic, it has all the charms of Spain and all the equipment you will need. It is an ideal base to explore the surrounding areas but is also a little bit of paradise to sit and relax around the grounds. Our hosts and neighbours were wonderful and we look forward to going again. We have been back home 2 days now and are really missing La Paz and the Spanish sun. I definitely recommend this holiday home, if you want to drop out of life to an unspoiled, natural part of Spain with Advacodos, mangoes, olives and almonds growing on trees, La Paz is the place to go. Comares is close by and is a lovely town with footprints to guide you around. Torre De Mar and Rincón de va Victoria are both very accessible and have fabulous markets on certain days of the week, great for local produce.
What an incredible place to spend time.
It is very difficult to put into words how wonderful Carl, Maria and Tommy are and how stunningly beautiful La Paz is. We spent a week here and it really suited us as a couple. We were going to use it as a base for walking, but when we got there we realised that we did not have to wander to find natural beauty and privacy, we had just driven there!! During the heat of the day, we spent our time in the swimming pool and took Carl's advice on local strolls in the evening. We loved the BBQ and chilling in the cooler evening air. We also found time to visit Comares in which we wandered around the streets, bought local produce and then walked around the hill it stands on. Such a good place to chill and be really free from the stresses of modern living. We will be going back. Alfred and Karen
An isolated jewel in the Andalusian Mountains
Well what can I say.
Whilst the journey across the rugged terrain is an adventure to say the least, the trip is definitely worth it.
A nice apartment hidden in the hills with hardly a soul around.
Amazing little space with everything that’s described in the advert, but the advert does not do it justice.
I queried why such an Adelaide place had very little reviews, however it’s purely because people haven’t bothered. There are guest books galore detailing how amazing peoples stays have been and they couldn’t be more true.
It really as a special place where you are left to your own devices as much or as little as you want. In the 10 days there, I can count on 1 hand the amount t of times we saw Carl and his wife, despite them being only next door.
A quiet retreat with lovely views
La Paz is a lovely quiet, rural retreat with lovely views. Carl and Maria were very welcoming and friendly hosts, and their excellent directions meant we had no trouble finding the place. We enjoyed eating our breakfast on the terrace every morning overlooking the Valley and had some nice meals at the local bars/ restaurant. If you are looking for peaceful days in beautiful surroundings then this is the place to go!
Thanks Amy. Hope you will return....
Lovely countryside retreat with fabulous scenery
Had a lovely week here at La Paz. So peaceful and tranquil, with a lovely pool all to ourselves, and several terraces to sit at and watch the world go by. The studio was perfect for us, with everything inside that we could possibly need. The hosts, Carl & Maria, were so helpful and friendly, but also gave us our own personal space and privacy. Made friends with their great dog Tommy, who was very friendly and very vocal. Highly reccommeded if you want to get away from it all
'La Paz' is situated in the South of Andalusia (35 km NE of Malaga) which itself is the Southern most region of Spain. Malaga International airport is approx. a 1 hour drive and the beautiful hilltop village of Comares is 7 km. Torre del Mar is the nearest beach resort at approx 25 km South.
'La Paz' is found in a quiet, hilly & rural area well away from the crowds and a 10 minute drive, along a winding lane & track, from the village of 'Los Ventorros' with an excellent local bar/restaurant serving tasty tapas and meals. Not far is the village shop selling fresh bread and local produce in Comares, the highest village in the Axarquia region of Andalusia, which has 6 local bar/restaurants, a good village store, a pharmacy, doctors surgery, tobacconist & bank with cash machine.
Torre del Mar sandy beach resort and the market town of Velez Malaga have excellent shopping facilities and entertainment for all ages. Malaga city, Granada, Antequerra and Nerja make fun day trips from ' La Paz'.
Other Activities: Birdwatching, painting courses
