The family and I went Alice Cottage last summer and although the weather could have been kinder we could not fault our accommodation. Alice Cottage is a beautifully appointed property with heaps of charm and character. The location of the cottage is great for exploring the South Hams district and is close to the beautiful beach at Blackpool Sands. I had many questions before our vacation and the owners were extremely helpful and understanding.
A delightful cottage in lovely countryside
The property matched the description in all respects. Despite indifferent Spring weather, the cottage was warm throughout and spacious even for five adults. Customer service was excellent and the owners responded very quickly to all enquiries. Alice cottage was really well equipped and one of the best in this respect. The narrow access lanes need care but that is normal in Devon! I would recommend this property without hesitation. Radius 7 restaurant is new to us and the food and service was excellent if you like more imaginative dishes than normal pub food.
Ten nights in a lovely, charming and very rural retreat in a beautiful part of Devon.
Although would comfortably sleep six, my wife and I stayed in Alice Cottage in September and thoroughly enjoyed the whole experience. The cottage is full of history with its relationship with Christopher Robin, in a delightful rural location with the beautiful Blackpool Sands only a stroke down the lane.
The owners could not have been more helpful and everything required for a welcome break was available and in nice condition.
Very nice overall stay with Moreno than enough to keep us occupied for the entire stay complete with visits to Slapton, Dartmouth etc etc.
We look forward to returning to the area soon.
Well equipped cottage with white goods, TVs ,WiFi etc and all in good order. Quiet location.
Access to the living areas is via a staircase (bedrooms below) so not so good for elderly or mobility challenged.Upstairs kitchen and lounge roomy. Both WCs and shower/baths are downstairs so handy during the night.
Maria and Richard were very adjacent and helpful with one minor problem which was soon sorted.
The cottage lies in the countryside and driving the narrow lanes is challenging.
Access to Torbay is via Higher Ferry across the Dart which is interesting but expensive @ £9.50 return. Blackpool Sands is close by but charges for parking as much as £8 per day although they use dynamic pricing depending upon the time of year and the weather. I paid 6,3 and £2 on different days.Good "Venus" cafe welcoming to my disabled daughter.
We enjoyed our short break
Lovely cottage - and so peaceful
This was our second stay at Alice Cottage - and even better than first time. The cottage is in a beautiful location surrounded by fields and country lanes with a small brook just across the road. The garden is a wonderful feature - designed and maintained to encourage wildlife with lots of colour and a gorgeous Rhododendron. For us, the association with Christopher Robin is so very important; we love to see the pictures of Winne and friends around the place and the garden really feels like a miniature Hundred Acre Woods. Our own Winnie - and many other bears and creatures - came with us and loved being there.
We also feel that Alice Cottage is a very special place and are delighted when guests feel the same way. The wildlife garden we have tried to keep as Christopher Robin wished and is described in 'Beyond the World of Pooh - selections from the memoirs of Christopher Milne'.
We enjoyed our stay at this lovely comfortable cottage. There was everything we needed there. It was really peaceful and a good place to recharge the batteries. The garden was a joy. It was situated outside Dartmouth but the park and ride service was very good and much easier than trying to park in Dartmouth. Definitely worth a visit.
Alice Cottage is situated in South Devon in the picturesque South Hams in a valley, a 10 minute drive from Dartmouth with one of the finest natural harbours in England, and a short walk from Blackpool Sands beach and its amenities overlooking which you will find views rivalling those of the French Riviera. Nearby attractions include Dartmouth Castle, Britannia Royal Naval Collage, Greenway, former home of Agatha Christie with gardens overlooking the River Dart and Coleton Fishacre, a National Trust house and garden. For children we recommend Woodlands, a family theme park and the Paignton & Dartmouth Steam Railway. Dartmouth hosts a music festival in early May and a food festival, in October. Its famous regatta is held at the end of August. The town has a cinema and theatre, craft shops, cafes and boutiques, including the Harbour Bookshop, once owned by Christopher Robin. Slapton Sands, with its D-Day connections and nature reserve, ideal for bird watching lies to the west. Blackpool Sands beach is consistently ranked one of the UK's top beaches with an excellent café, shop and water sports equipment for hire.
