The villa is on a small, secure prestigious development on the outskirts of Burgau and a one hour drive from Faro Airport.It is on three levels; ground with entrance hall, stairs leading up and into the lounge, kitchen and terrace/garden. On the next level up are the two bedrooms, bathrooms and balconies.
The master bedroom is en-suite with 'Romeo and Juliet' balcony having a sea view and overlooking the protected Costa Vicentina National Park. The bathroom contains a spa bath and shower as well as a bidet, toilet and basin. The twin bedroom overlooks the complex with mountain views beyond. Next door the bathroom has a shower, toilet and basin. Both bedrooms have fitted wardrobes, electric shutters and air conditioning which will also blow warm air in winter. Nicely tucked away is a side balcony which is useful for drying costumes, towels and general laundry.
The front facing balcony has been converted into a "glass room" with aspects over the complex. This can be screened off from the lounge with a curtain, making a quiet indoor area with sofa and black out blinds so it can remain cool in the heat of the summer. The dining area of the lounge has a hand made solid chestnut dining table and 6 chairs. With view onto the terrace, the main part of the lounge has a large corner sofa, armchair, coffee table and small writing desk with chair. The TV is 55" high definition (4K) with Blue Ray DVD; additionally Wi-Fi is available. Large glass doors open out onto the terrace where there is a large dining table and 8 chairs for al fresco dining.
There is a modern fully equipped kitchen with electric cooker, 4 ring halogen hob, fridge freezer, dish washer and washing machine. There is a side door from here onto the terrace with Weber charcoal BBQ and two sun loungers.
The villa comes with complimentary membership to the private Domus Iberica Club which is 100m walk away. Facilities here include a large swimming pool, children's pool and playground, sun loungers and parasols, bar and restaurant. Access to this is via a guest key card which is available from the site office in return for a €30 refundable deposit.
The beautiful Burgau beach is just a 5 minutes walk away through the village down pretty cobbled streets. The Blue Flag beach is set in a sheltered sandy bay where loungers and umbrellas can be hired. There is an excellent beach bar with outside terrace, snack bar as well as restaurant and occasionally live music.
There are a some excellent local restaurants providing reasonably priced good quality food all within a short walking distance of the villa. Local specialities, fresh fish, pasta, pizzas and English fare are all be served .... always with friendly service! If you prefer to eat in there are local supermarkets within walking distance and takeaways include Italian and Indian. Bars stay open late, often with live music.
Within a short drive more energetic activities are available such as tennis, water sports, sailing, horse riding and Burgau is surrounded by some of the best golf courses in the Algarve. Children and adults alike may enjoy a day at one of the local water parks. Ramblers can enjoy a network of mapped walks in the National Park in which there are various unique species of animal and plant life, and is visited by many zoologists and botanists from all parts of the world. The villa backs onto the park from where you can do a cliff walk to the next door beach of Cabanas (where there is an excellent beach bar) and the very energetic can then continue to Salema, another delightful resort with great facilities on offer. Equally, from the other side of Burgau it is possible to do a scenic cliff walk to Praia de Luz (3 km).
Luz has a sandy beach offering a variety of water sports and a selection of restaurants and bars. Slightly further afield (12 km) but well worth a visit is the historic and bustling market town of Lagos providing the visitor with a great selection of shops, restaurants, bars, clubs, museums and a marina from where you can take various boat trips to the grottos and to dolphin watch and snorkel.
Less than half an hour away is the historical site of Sagres and home of Europe's south-western most point, Cabo de São Vincente (Cape St Vincent) and home to a lighthouse whose beam can be seen over 90 km (the furthest in Europe). The strong winds coming off the Atlantic Ocean on this wild coastline create massive waves making it very popular with surfers.
A trip into the mountains offers spectacular views and provides a contrast to coastal Algarve. The charming market town of Monchique has a spa and is known as a health and well-being centre.
Also nearby is Alvor, a seaside resort and fishing village. Cobbled lanes lead down to the paved riverfront, which is lined with bars and seafood restaurants. The wetlands of the Alvor river estuary provide a habitat for resident and migratory birds.
The climate - with over 3,000 hours of sunshine per year and a low annual average rainfall, the Algarve enjoys mild weather throughout the year, which is certainly a big attraction for visitors, both in the summer for a few days on the beach and in winter to relax or engage in a variety of activities.
