Acorn Cottage, a luxury three-bedroom lakefront hideaway nestled amongst oak trees, is one of only two homes on Madam’s Island, a small private peninsula on Caragh Lake.
The living room overlooks the lake, and with an open fire, comfy sofa and original artwork, is the perfect place to rest and relax.
The dining area opens out onto a stone-clad patio with outdoor fireplace and kettle BBQ, so whatever the time of year, it’s the ideal setting for long lazy lunches with friends and family.
The kitchen is fully equipped - perfect for preparing those delicious meals; and offers additional seating for breakfast or that quick cup of tea before heading back out onto the water.
The house sleeps 7 people with three bedrooms and three bathrooms - one en-suite family room with a double and single bed, one twin room and one king sized double room; and an additional two bathrooms. The beds are cosy and comfortable with goose down quilts, cotton bedding and luxurious mattresses.
For those lazier days, there’s a TV in the living room with Irish, English, German, French and other international channels, free wifi - over 10MB down, 3 MB up.
Taking the short path down to the shore, you can go for a swim, or if you fancy, go out on one of the fishing boats - booking is required for these so please enquire before your stay regarding rates and availability.
For larger family gatherings and group getaways, we can also accommodate a further 7 guests at Salmon Cottage, the equally luxurious sister property a short walk down the lane.

I grew up on and around Caragh Lake and recently moved back to this beautiful part of the world with my wife and eight year old son. As a family we love the water. For years we've been sailing, windsurfing and paddle boarding, mainly on reservoirs around London, but on a trip home mid 2015 the penny dropped - this place was heaven and it was time to move back. I'm originally German, moved to Ireland when I was a kid, lived in France for a number of years and for the past twenty have been in the UK, working in digital media. For us it's about the quality of life here - the great outdoors, fantastic food and time with friends and family. We feel incredibly lucky to be able to call this part of the world home and, whether at Bells Cottage, my parents' charming traditional Kerry farmhouse; Caragh Lake House, our large lakefront home which we recently renovated; or one of the other homes on and around Caragh Lake that we manage; we look forward to sharing this little bit of heaven with you.

Wonderful stay in Acorn Cottage
We had an idyllic few days in Acorn cottage over the Easter holidays. Jens and Michelle were perfect hosts, the cottage was beautiful, comfortable and spacious and the location is in what must be one of the nicest spots in Ireland. Our children (7 and 5) loved skimming stones in the lake, challenging themselves to take a dip in the bracing water and generally exploring the outdoors. On sunny days, we ventured to the beaches (St. Finian's and Rossbeigh) and the high passes (Ballaghema, Gap of Dunloe) and on rainy days holed up with a fire reading books, playing games and going out for pancakes (Strawberry Field). What's not to like? We will definitely be back...
Our Irish adventure!
Beautiful location, lovely home, caretakers were very attentive to our needs, including dropping off a box of toys for our 5 yr old grandson to play with. We had one hiccup but it was rectified quickly. Would highly recommend this property!!!
Hi Eileen. Thank you for the lovely review. Safe travels and keep in touch. Jens & Michelle
A special place
We loved our time in this very special home on the lake. The cottage is beautiful and was just as idyllic as I'd imagined with more room that we needed. They bedrooms were roomy and had very comfy down stuffed beds and pillows. The hosts for the home made sure we knew they were there for us for any need. We were grateful for the time they took in putting together a site specifically for this cottage with recommendations for the area as well as options for activities on and around the lake. When we return to Ireland, we will definitely include this wonderful home with ferny, moss draped goodness in our next stay. This place is everything it looks to be online and more. Absolute perfection!
Hi Dawn. Thank you so much for the lovely review. It was an absolute pleasure to welcome you on Madam's Island and we hope we can keep in touch. Warm regards from the lake. Jens & Michelle
Marvellous cottage in a unique and wonderful location
Facing beautiful Caragh Lake, this very comfortable cottage is a real haven of peace and nature. It is also ideally located to discover the breathtaking landscapes of Kerry. We had a great stay (much too short though!!!). Last but not least, the owners are very friendly and helpful. We will certainly come back
Merci Françoise. Thank you for the kind words. A bientôt. Keep in touch.
